    W Brace

The frustration I have is getting under the bloody car lol. Will have to take it to the local garage so he can put it on a ramp and pay for labour. If it wasnt for health and safety and insurance I'd buy a dissused garage and hire it out by the hour for people wanting to do work on their cars - 'fixyercaryerself.com'.

    W Brace

Finally getting around to replacing my W brace as it has just come up as an advisory on the MOT (and it needs replacing anyway). I'm looking at the ultra racing rear lower 4 points: https://www.torqen.uk/nissan/350z/suspension-steering/braces/20746-350z-ultra-racing-rear-lower-brace-4-points-rl4-1259.html Has anyone fitted this. And is it a straight swap for the OEM. Regards bolts (I am expecting some to be knackered when they come off there are two type listed: https://www.torqen.uk/nissan/350z/suspension-steering/braces/5596-350z-nissan-oem-w-brace-hardware-kit-74870-cd200-hwk.html Is this correct? Cheers
  3. I am looking for a new battery. I have a 54 plate 350Z. And am confused Can any confirm which battery will fit please. The Bosch S4 026 is L 266mm x W 175mm x H 220mm so I'm assuming anything less that that should be ok? *** Update *** Decided to take a punt at a ADVANCED POWERPLUS 068XD Car Battery 75ah 630cca. Dimensions are the same as above and it does say (but it would, wouldnt it lol) that it is ideal for cars that do low mileage and performance vehicles.
  4. Just to resurrect this thread and thoroughly recommend Andy Turner Motor Engineering in the Leeds area. This guy knows his stuff and is a perfectionist (and also has the neatest garage I've ever seen). Had a few issues loosening some of the adjustment bolts but wouldn't give up and even used the heat torch where he could. He uses Jamag laser alignment. Was there about 90 minutes and he charged £50
  5. Added this on to my annual service at a garage I have used for years (and which is conveniently located). Cost me £100. Only done around 50 miles on them and they still 'smell' when stationary lol. But pleased with them. Thanks everyone for your responses
  6. Ok so I went and bought discs and pads to replace all 4 corners on my 2004 Brembo Z. Sort of got cold feet about doing it all myself. Tried 'Wefixanycar.com' only to be let down (oh yes that will be £80 sir, well actually we are going to charge you £120 + VAT). So looking for either a decent garage in Leeds are or mobile mechanic that will charge around £100 for fitting four pads and discs. Anyone got any recommendations please. And yes I know i am being soft about not doing it myself.
  7. So after a lot of searching, mainly on here, I have decided to go with the following given I only do low road mileage and also budget constraints (sub £400): Discs - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-NISSAN-350Z-FRONT-REAR-KINETIX-DIMPLED-GROOVED-PERFORMANCE-BRAKE-DISCS-SET/252898413495?hash=item3ae1eb8bb7:g:x-8AAOSwn-tZGtrB Pads - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EBC-REDSTUFF-FRONT-REAR-PADS-KIT-FOR-NISSAN-350Z-3-5-BREMBO-2003-09/141926473906?fits=Model%3A350+Z&epid=21006377529&hash=item210b7a20b2:g:XmoAAOSwXY5ZO3u5 i.e. Kinetix discs and Redstuff pads Anybody going to shout out 'DON'T DO IT!!!' Go with this instead?
  8. Many thanks to everyones input. I did look at the EBC red stuff on Brake Depot. This was their four wheel offer: https://direct.brakedepot.co.uk/for-nissan-350z-front-rear-performance-brake-discs-and-ebc-redstuff-pads-brembo.html?category_id=638 The EBC red stuff pads get a good review online but looking at this package is it let down by the discs. They seem a bit cheap or is it me? And sorry for being a numpty but 2 x CNC Milling? Does that mean both front and back get grooved?
  9. Silver 05 plate 350Z. Drove past it last night as I went to the gym there. Any body on here?
  10. Want to fit new pads and discs (front have MOT advisories) on my 2004 Z with brembos. Is it a fairly easy job to do. Any pitfalls to look out for. Might do all four wheels. Which brings me on to budget. Seen reviews on here for DBA T2's, Stoptech etc. This is an occasional, no track car I drive. Can I get away with less £££. I have noticed Kinetix have reasonable reviews. I appreciate the need for decent brakes though but don't have a wife that understands lol
  11. I,m in Woodlesford so not far from Wakey (even if I get them off ebay). Where's your local mechanic if they can do it for that price. might get the disks and get them to do it for that price.
  12. Are these purchased separately or as a kit?
  13. Had my 2004 Z for around 18 months now (it's the one with the Hulk in the engine bay if anyone remembers that). In that time I have had a couple of MOT's and the following advisories: Front Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material both (1.1.11 (c)) Front Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened both (1.1.14 (a) (ii)) Offside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge inner edge (5.2.3 (e)) Nearside Rear Wheel bearing has slight play (5.1.3 (a) (i) Looking to keep this car (I love it) so might attempt or get these done. Questions: Brake discs - Brembo brakes. Any advice on replacement discs please Tyre wear - is this normal given the setup. they are Uniroyal 255 35 R19's and other than the inner edge these tyres must have 6mm plus left on them Surprised at front brake pipe as these are supposed to be replaced braided.
  14. Bought this: My Z just over 12 months ago. 133k miles would have raised a few eyebrows but that doesnt bother me. Not done a great amount of mileage in it but: - sailed through its MOT - NEVER spilled one drop of fluid A total pleasure to drive. Had one issue a few weeks ago when it kept on overheating. Replaced temp sensor, thermostat and fans (they were knackered). Also did a full flush of the coolant including Wynns cleaner (which when drained was totally clear of any debris or crap) then went through the bleed process. Fine again. Only other issue was I clipped a kerb on the first day i had it avoiding a speed bump. Ooops a slight bump on the rotas. I did buy it with a little bubbling on the paint work of one of the rear arched. Will need at some stage but not got worse in a year Will I be keeping it. God yes what a sub £5k car it is. Do I fancy do anything to it. Well fancy one of those rear window grills, a duck spoiler and to have the roof and grill and spoiler wrapped in carbon graphite. We shall see. i also said I'd get the wheels painted black and get rid of that awful orange interior. But its sort of grown on me. oh and the hulk is staying as well lol Love the car, love driving it
  15. Anyone on here got the Silver 350Z that's parked on Cross Flatts Grove. Born n bred in Beeston and come back to see my folks. Drove by you in my Silver 350z on Saturday
  16. Many thanks to evryone for their suggestions. Ended up replacing temp sensor, thermostat and fan with Mitshimoto equivalents. Went through the bleed process following it to the letter. just done a 17 mile round trip and not a single issue. Fingers crossed its sorted. if not... well I will cross that hurdle lol
  17. Has anyone replaced stock fans with the Mitshimoto ones. As part of trying to sort out overheating problem I have I replaced the stock fans and am currently following the excellent guide on here about bleeding the coolant and refilling etc. Part of this advice says to have the car running on idle for 10 minutes with temp set high. Done this (left for 15-20 mins) and also done the 3 x 3000rpm thing. The good news is that the temp gauge never went above half way and that the heater blew very hot (and also very cold when the air con was on). No gurgling either. But in all this time idling the Mitshimotos fans never automatically came on. They did come on like a jet engine when I put the air con on though. Is this operation normal for them?
  18. And just read dpbayleys excellent article on fan removal and repair and noticed the bit about fans either stopping or going slower
  19. Thanks for your suggestion Z Legend
  20. I wondered about the fans. When I originally broke down (coolant spewing out and needle in red) I noticed only one fan on. When I changed thermostat and let it idle for ages with heating on full there was still only one on and I never heard that click you get. Anyway I prodded it with a screwdriver and it worked for a while then stopped. prodded again and its started again and stayed on. But I wouldn't call its speed anything like a jet turbine lol. Not going to try this but I reckon both fans are revolving so slow I could stop them with my fingers. Would have expected a bit more speed or is that me. Don't want to spend £200 on new fans though until I am sure
  21. It started with a run out and as I reversed into the garage I got loads of coolant coming out of reservoir tank and a loud gurgling noise. Since then I have checked oil - no cheesy deposits at all and also no white smoke form exhaust. Also done a Dr Headgasket test and that is fine. So my fingers are well and truly crossed. Anyway I replaced my temp sensor and thermostat and bled the system but still I am getting some overheating. But not always. had the car on idle for over an hour in the sun the other day and it was fine. But I daren't drive it far (hence Atkins in Malton is out) so does anyone have any recommendations for a good garage to take it to in the Leeds area
  22. So I have the same issue so I am replacing the thermostat and temp sensor and going to bleed. Fingers crossed. If not then will replace the fans but at around £200 for a Mishimoto replacement is it likely to be that and is it worth replacing?
  23. 133k here on a 54 plate. Not one drop of fluid leak from the engine Has been in the garage for 3 weeks though due to an engine overheating issue. Planning to replace temp sensor and thermostat and then pray it aint more serious
  24. About a week ago I had been out for around an hour, came back (happened to notice the temp gauge was in the middle) and proceeded to stall the car (it's a 2005 350z). When I restarted it I noticed the temp gauge was in the red. Anyway I put it in the garage and when I turned it off I noticed a large gurgling sound from the engine. This went on around 5 minutes. Anyway next day I looked at the coolant in the reservoir (also checked oil for any creamy sludge but thankfully it was as clear as anything) and noticed it was below minimum so I drove it around 4 miles to the garage (no problem with temp) topped up with coolant then took it for a 30 minute drive. Everything seemed fine. Next day drove it somewhere, around 3 miles, then stopped for about 30 mins (no issues) and then started to drive back (long route back). At traffic lights I put my foot down only to get power loss then acceleration then power loss. Pulled in and found loads of coolant and steam spurting out from reservoir overflow. Engine warning light came on and temp gauge in red. Proceeded to drive the 3.5 miles home in around 1.5 hours (few hundred yards, stop for 10 minutes etc etc). Anyone any ideas please. I was thinking of replacing the temp sensor and thermostat (easy jobs for a noob like me), maybe even the radiator cap as well. Then cautiously trying it. Does this sound sensible. I've also an ODBii adaptor so could see what the error code is. If this doesn't fix it would the next step be to replace the coolant pump? I think I heard a slight moaning noise (not one I'd heard before) when I was driving it but thought that might be the 2 mile an hour limping home.
