  1. Ah, I didn't click on the ebay link as the way the op was phrased, I believed I would be looking at a single, my bad for not reading properly.

So, can you tell what it is yet? ;)

  2. Define near future. A billion years is the very near future in galactic terms. Not trying to be obtuse, it's key to the point when this will happen. And are we talking about the uk or all 1st world nations?

I thought the plans for many manufacturers were along the lines of significant increase by 2020 and a majority (some high % that I've forgotten) by 2030/35?

    1st world only.

India seems to be planning for only electric cars to be sold by 2030, though that might be a bit of a stretch.

  3. Gentlemen, can I suggest we simply stop responding to Strudel's comments in threads like this? Every time he posts it seems to take us off track with regards to how he likes to focus on things and how the rest of us cannot see just how he comes to these conclusions. I humbly suggest that we never will, and neither do I think he brings anything to the table in terms of moving these debates forward. All we are doing is 'feeding the troll', and that's not making for adult discussions at all as it's becoming Us vs Him. That's not great for the forum, and I'll be the first to stand here and suggest it's not making great reading for others.

People like Stu etc I can happily debate with for hours, despite being miles apart in terms of ideas and thoughts. We all have different political POVs, but bickering with Strudel is doing none of us any favours and I suggest we rise above it and stop entertaining him on the more grown-up threads.

If you don't like my viewpoint that's fine, I'm not forcing it on anyone or saying they can't vote.

All I'm doing is addressing the questions asked about my view. If you don't want an answer, don't ask the question...

  4. I explained (oh do i have to repeat myself here, again) that it wasn't directed at you, i meant it, I used you as a more general term around people complaining about policies etc. (which you havent done so again it wasnt directed at you) but do not vote. As I say, again, you can either take that as true or allow paranoia to dictate what you think. I also pointed out quite clearly that 100k spoiled papers in 2015, and that if the millions who claim to have the mindset you had around politicans spoiled papers it would make a difference. It does involve you registering to vote though, getting yourself over to a polling station on the day and doing it. I can only assume that from your other posts around being very apathetic around who runs the country, that you don't care to, which is a shame the more people make their vote count the more likely this country will be run in the way people want it run.

Stop worrying about countering every question that is put to you for a change and try read between the lines that actually this is a post around trying to give you a bit of information or support around something that you cited as a problem. Take it or leave it.

Well aware of what you said, but you're missing the point.

What you said and what your actions implied are different. Is it my fault I interpreted it that way and down to "paranoia issues"? I don't think so.

If you quote someone and then write a message below (especially incorporating terms like "you"), it generally means what you write is in relation to the quoted text and directed at the person quoted. I'm not saying this to be patronising, but purely to justify my response and illustrate the ambiguity.

  5. But Dan's comment was in response to Zoom's initial statement which stated "brand new" cars.

It's gonna get confusing if we start redefining criteria.

  6. Fine whatever paranoia issues you have there sat at your keyboard about how the forum hates you and the like. Take it as you want.

In actual fact I am trying to enlighten you to spoilt paper voting as the clearly obvious alternative which many people who are apathetic around voting choose to ignore as a way of voicing your current issues around politicians - reason being because I felt exactly the same way when I was in my teens and didn't bother voting for years, then the realisation hits you as you get older and wiser how much missed opportunity there has been.

If you are happy to take whatever happens fine, but you cannot state hatred of politicans, lack of information etc as reasons when there is a way to be part of the process to voice that concern and enact change.

You quoted me and seemed to be asking me questions, I just don't understand how I'm supposed to interpret that as not being directed at me??? Got no problem with it, just don't understand why you are denying it

I'm well aware that a spoilt ballot would be the best option, but if you refer back to my reply to Jay:

Cliche I know, but the percentage of spoilt ballots is too low for mine to make a difference and I'm happy enough to just go with the majority.

I don't go around ranting about it, I generally avoid the topic altogether and don't get involved. The only reason I did was in response to BobbyZ's comment. After that I was just responding to other's remarks / questions.

  7. But he said people buying brand new, not that there wouldn't still be ICE cars around:

I would be disappointed if by the time my daughter is old enough to drive people are still buying brand new combustion cars on a regular basis for the purposes of transportation.

  8. It was more of a general comment about the complaints, not directed at you.

The political system is what it is, it wont change unless you actively do something about it and the most impactful thing you can do is go and vote for something. Including spoiling papers. What is stopping you doing that? That is in effect a vote against the people you have overtly called out as stopping you from voting. What you have said is totally aligned to why vote papers are spoiled - a million ticks on the government petition site gets a debate in parliament, a million spoiled vote papers would probably achieve even more.

Can I ask, have you registered to vote?

You used the word "you" a lot for it to be a general comment not directed at me

I haven't registered to vote, no.

  9. Given how much you like a good bit of research, and you're clearly not a completely unintelligent moron, I can't understand how you feel there's not enough information out there for to disseminate enough fact to make a reasoned decision.

You do masses of research into making an exhaust leak or filling a mount with rubber, but you won't do it for who's actually running the country? How odd.

There just isn't enough to go on without dedicating an unfeasible amount of time to it, and as said, I'm fine with whatever happens.

Even if you vote for what you want to happen, there's still a good chance they won't follow through with their claims. Then trying to understand all the side affects of the decisions is borderline impossible.

Considering the amount of research I did into an exhaust leak which is reversible in 5 minutes if I don't like it, apply some extrapolation and you start to understand the extent of the research required to make a decision that affects the country forever...

  10. So in effect you are against democracy? You sound like someone who would prefer an autocracy? I am not sure what exactly the point is? You will never have the full facts in many things in life you just have to do the best you can, in fact the majority of your life is spent making decisions without the full facts or the ability to get them. One of these people are going to rule over the country for 5 years, you are either in choosing or out - if you are out, then there is no complaints whoever gets in and the policies they implement.

At the 2015 GE 100k papers were spoilt, millions of people didn't vote. Now there could be lots of reasons why people didnt vote but a lot of it is apathy wrapped up in a perceived hatred for politics, plenty of it is though a cannot be bothered attitude to it. But its here to stay, unless you do something about it. If you choose not to and are just in the mindset to be some sort of victim in all this and accept it, then thats your prerogative.

Democracy itself isn't the problem, just the application. I wouldn't let a load of random people choose the car I drive when their viewpoint extends as far as "i like it cos it's blue", so why should they be allowed to choose how the country is run?

I refuse to make decisions without having as many of the facts as possible. I spent 2 years on and off deciding what car to buy and had already started weighting up options for the next one before I'd even bought it. Yes, there are plenty of times where I'm forced to rush into a decision, and I hate every part of it.

    As for complaining:

then quite simply you have no right to comment on anything - fuel, taxes, cost of parts (because they might be imported) etc etc etc

And I don't, I just accept things for how they are...

I'm happy enough to just go with the majority.

  11. (tongue in cheek) What about blinding people crossing the road, they'll struggle with electric cars

this is a genuine concern actually as my sister is blind

Weren't they developing noises for EV cars to aid this?

    Edit: Link

  12. Very true, not voting shows you have no opinion. Spoiling the ballot shows you're unhappy with all candidates, or the system.

I wonder how many young people know this.

Cliche I know, but the percentage of spoilt ballots is too low for mine to make a difference and I'm happy enough to just go with the majority.

That being said, what % of spoilt ballots is required for something to be done about it?

  13. This kind of sums it up for me when it comes to electric cars and why they just do not stir the senses - ok its blatantly done by a petrolhead but hey it was as good an illustration as I could find

I have no problem going EV for carting the kid around and doing boring journeys down the motorway, but for fun, not a chance

I tried to watch Formula E a couple of times and gave up. It's like F1, but even more bland.

With the amount of fake exhaust noise in cars these days, i'm not sure how I feel about full EVs sounding like V8s though.

  14. If you don't want to vote because you believe that everyone is a liar then you should protest against the system by going down there and spoiling the paper. If you feel that strongly then get down there and do that, they get counted and if they are big enough they will start to count for something.

I clearly gave more reasons than that, but okay.

Yes, I disagree with the system, but if you refer to my previous post:

I just accept things for how they are...

  15. then quite simply you have no right to comment on anything - fuel, taxes, cost of parts (because they might be imported) etc etc etc

no offence but this is such a ridiculous comment strudul

And I don't, I just accept things for how they are...

I took the same approach to Brexit. I disagree with the uninformed and mislead public making a decision on something they are not qualified to make a decision on, which includes myself.

All it takes is a few hours reading to get a little background on what it is your voting for :)

My point being that a little background is nowhere near enough to make an informed decision.

    - How can you make an informed decision without knowing all the facts?

    - How can you know all the facts when they aren't provided or are lied about?

    - How can you make a choice without considering all the implications and knock-on effects?

    - How can you think you know better than someone with a Master's in economics who spends their life trying to find the best solution?

In my opinion, voting under these circumstances would be ridiculous and irresponsible. Yet you get people who can't even manage their own finances thinking they know best how to manage a country...

  16. There's an ebay link in the OP with lots of pics.

Just saying that it's worth offering the single with the car too just in case they do want it.

  17. By the way.....is the exhaust I've bought a standard factory fitted example?

    Don't think so.

Looks too shiny and the wrong shape for a stock exhaust plus it says it's stainless (which the stock exhaust isn't). Can't see any branding, which is unusual unless it's an ebay zorst.
