Thanks to both for replies, that is a bit of a pain but not entirely unexpected. Would have been less of a sting if I had the facility/time to do them myself but current situation that is not the case.

I had planned for this to be my first attendance but now have to trip up to Newcastle for work and won't return til Thursday. I will try and keep my calendar free for next month. Would be nice to see a few local Zedders and other car fans.

I am just wondering if anyone knows where I stand on the following:

Recently purchased 2 front wheel bearings from a supplier ( I won't name names until I have either a positive or negative resolution). On fitting there seems to be some issue with the ABS sensor which is disabling ABS, traction control and lighting the dash up like a christmas tree. The mechanic who fit them for me assures me that the sensor itself is still working and that it is likely a dodgy bearing. I called up the supplier to explain what I had been told and they claim it is most likely the mechanic damaged the part on fitting (this seems a little far fetched as far as I can tell since it is a bolt off bolt on assembly and I have never had issues with this particular garage before.) They said that I could post it back and they will assess for damage before deciding on whether or not I would receive a replacement under warranty. Whilst it would be much easier for me if they could send me a new one out prior to taking the other off the car I can't deny that at this stage they are being reasonable. The bit that I am intrigued by is this:

Say I send it back and it is deemed to be faulty. In order to do so I am going to have to refit the old bearing for now which will cost me the fitting charge at the garage and then postage, they send me a new one and I then have to pay to have it fit again. If they are liable for supplying a faulty product where do I stand on the 2*cost of fitting + postage in order to be able to send the old one back.

If they deem it to be damaged, caused during fitting then I am properly stuffed as I need to not only pay the above costs but also buy a new wheel bearing as well.

Anyone know where I stand here?

Down to a 1:41.239 on Monaco but still miles off you Stu but that is me done for the night.

I think Trial Mountain is probably my favourite of these 3 but probably because this was one of my favourite circuits going back through the various Gran Turismo games. My only comment on this one would be that I don't know if the VX220 is a little underpowered as Stu said, I actually feel like power wise it's ok but it feels as though the gear ratios from 3rd to 4th are a bit off, like you drop too far down the powerband on that upshift, which is particularly annoying on the uphill drag after the hairpin as it makes it feel like you are struggling to make progress.

I like the Cote d'Azure challenge as well, the clio is just the right side of lively without being uncontrollable. I think having another go at this having not drunk any wine would probably help my times a little. Its a nice challenge as there is a good level of grip on the whole with the tail kicking out every now and again threatening to turn you round but to really nail the time you will have to be mega precise with lines and walls. Bane of my attempts on this circuit is the kerb on the inside of Portier as I keep having to lift to correct oversteer or indeed put it in the wall costing me lots of time regularly.

Finally the cicuito di roma and the Xbow. I quite like the car, it is possibly a little oversteery for me (although this could well be a characteristic of the cobbled streets of Rome more than the car itself) I hate this circuit though. Purely my opinion of course but I would find this a lot less frustrating with something 4wd or front as the surface gives very little adhesion and I spend a lot of time in this combination facing the wrong way. For my own enjoyment I find this intrusive as I am quite happy pounding round cranking out similar laptimes and occaisionally hooking up a collection of better sectors slowly moving the goal posts. Having to stick it in reverse ruins the flow a bit, obviously if I could keep it out the wall and facing the right way this would be less of an issue. I will have more goes at this one as there is no way I can cope with being so far off the pace but I don't envisage me troubling the top times too much and I think I will certainly spend less time on this challenge than the others.

Overall verdict: A very interesting set of challenges with a rather different focus to my original propositions. Very technical circuits with peppy grippy motors dancing on the edge. Think I will enjoy spending time on this one when I get chance. Think Trial Mountain will get most of my attention though. Well done Stu, it needed reviving

jeez 1:40 in monaco is quick. I am on 1:42.243 as a first crack with 10 lap attempt. will try one of the others now

A frustrated 1:28.473 on trial mountain. Frustrated coz I know I am quicker and that is so close to Stu's time.

Edit: Thoroughly detest circuito di roma, will stop for now on a 1:07.764 before I smash the damn thing. Must have spent as much time facing the wrong way as the right way. Grrrrrrr My least favourite for now.

The Trial Mountain one isn't as good as I'd hoped, the VXR is a bit underpowered for it. I'm enjoying the other two though and managed to do some damage to my times tonight. I've updated the original post.

 

Saint, you were spot on about the last section of Roma being the key. If you can carry speed through there you're onto a win. I improved my time but I must admit I had to switch to the Auto Transmission as the power band is so narrow in the X-Bow I kept bouncing off the limiter.

Right I have an hour, buying cars now and mods now. Am i being mental or is the V6 clio somewhere funny, not in my regular dealerships?

Edit: Never mind I am being slow. Right time to have a go at some of these times. I have had a bottle of wine though so not hoping for much tonight.

Aye, looked into it before. As I say often sit on the river bank across the field watching and listening from a distance whilst out walking. Got chatting to a guy at a small car show before who competes there in an MR2 and looked into it then. Will come search you out if I do come don't worry.

I'm up there this Sunday - there's about a dozen cars in the road-going 2-litre-plus class. There's a chap in a V8 M3 that is winning the class every time. I need to find 0.3 sec to catch him...

 

It's a great day out. Race your guts out for a bit, then sit and watch the classics, racecars and exotics giving it loads

I might pop over just as a spectator for an hour or so, if I can find the time. Fingers crossed.

Do you know where the Sun Inn is? Up past Otley? I can see a Yorkshire meet sometime soon.

I don't although having just googled I know roughly where it should be. I like Otley and some of the roads out the back of Otley are a great laugh to drive around.

I hillclimb the Zed at Harewood for fun most months. Would be great to see some others up there.

No way, I regularly walk around harewood area and often see the hill climb in action from the riverside. Don't think I would be happy to risk my Zed up the hill but always consider going to watch the action a little closer. It's criminal that in the year or so I have lived here I haven't actually attended. When are you next planning on heading over?

I think if i emailed anyone about a "Passion Package" the missus would have a few a few things to say . Looks great though and a good service to offer, I've been

looking at ways to correct the abuse of the last 7 years commuting and the costs are in the area i had in mind.

It's when you get an invoice or credit card bill that says passion package on that you are in real ****

More than likely a faulty sensor or a dodgy bearing or a fitment issue.

 

What brand of bearing did you buy and from whom ?

 

Your technician should be able to test the sensor etc which will remove any guesswork.

 

Plenty fully working pre owned sensors in stock and good to go same/next day.

Pretty sure the sensor still works as can still get it to receive a signal.

Awaiting the flame but I don't believe the bearing/hub assembly is OEM nissan. Came from atoz Wakefield, used stuff from them before and generally good quality with reasonable warranty. As I say I bought 2 and the offside seems absolutely fine.

So it would appear it is most likely a dodgy bearing? I will get onto atoz and see if they will send me another one out without me needing to take the current one off the car first. If there are still issues could run the old bearing or pull the fuses until I source a OEM replacement and then go refund as not fit for purpose.

Hi All,

Had both front wheel bearings replaced and now I have issues with ABS and slip lights coming on. Below approx 30mph I get no light but a buzzing through brake pedal as though the ABS thinks that one of the wheels is going to lock when brakes applied. Once above that speed the lights come on and ABS becomes disabled and stays that way until I switch off the ignition. This makes me think that there is a disagreement between sensors from nearside to offside. Mechanic reckons it could be a dodgy bearing but I was also wondering whether poor alignment might cause this. On fitting there was some issues in getting the sensor to pick up on the nearside but this wasn't the case for the offside.

I suppose i have 3 options:

Get onto supplier of bearings and see if I can get it swapped and hope that solves it, problem with that option is if they want the current one back first I potentially need to leave the car on stands whilst that happens.

Refit old bearing and see if the problem disappears, at least that would confirm that the bearing is the issue and I can chase supplier about it, problem being I then end up running a more worn out bearing and back to noisy travels for a short while

Get alignment done and hope that is the root of the issue in which case great, but if it's not then it's spent cash that hasn't fixed the problem and on sorting the bearing I would potentially need to reconsider alignment.

It could of course be something else at which point I defer to you knowledgeable lot for other suggestions. Any one any ideas or advice? Thanks in advance.

Damn, I got excited seeing the reply to this. Noone has replied to one of my spotted posts before. I was a long way from home but Claire's family are all in Herne and we were visiting for the weekend. Was a nice day at the car show, parts of deal I saw looked nice, even managed to get sun burnt. Also went to Sandwich which I had never been to before and that was very pleasant.

You are generally a smart bunch (with a few exceptions ) can anyone help me with a challenge at work. How to convert large numbers of coordinates into business names. So I have many rows of coordinates that are Lat/Long to six decimal places and I want to associate them to the business name they were collected in. I have googled my way around the internet, clearly there are lots of sites which put a pin in a map when I put in one set of co-ords but I then have to manually zoom in and write down the name of the business, I have around 10,000 coordinates to convert so doing one at a time isn't practical. I have found a business called Foursquare in the US but their responses to my contact emails are so slow I am losing the will to persevere with them! Any ideas on companies that you may have come across that can do this, or any any help on how to achieve this greatly appreciated (Note I am not a programmer...so layman terms to any technical response also appreciated!)

 

Have you looked into the google reverse geocode API?

In fact I could write some code that would take in latitude and longitude and return you all of the addresses. It wouldn't necessarily give you all of the business names but it is an automated start point. I am not massively up on web scraping so I don't know how i would go from that list of addresses to company names in some nice format easily without spending some hours messing about with and thinking about it.

I could probably also knock you up a zoomable map graphic with points at every location within a few minutes if you wanted. Again wouldn't be the most ideal solution as you would still need to get from point to business name by yourself, but at least you wouldn't be entering coords one at a time.

Sorry those aren't the most amazing solutions out there. I could probably knock something better up given more free time but I don't have that luxury currently. If you want one of the two above solutions let me know and I will sort that for you.
