  1. OK, What are they and what do they do? Do you know how much are they fitted? I have the car in for a full service a week on Wednesday. I could have them installed then.

    PM ZMANALEX,

May have some good used or even brand new ones.

  2. Hi JordsF,

In regards to CPS, from experience and research the sensors that do go bad, generally go bad around 60,000-80,000miles,

You are right for going pure OEM replacement, do not get aftermarket for the CPS (There are 2 in total, 1 each bank, and a 3rd "Crankshaft Sensor" underneath engine near back), Furthermore if/when they do go bad, the others seem to give in aswell.

    CPS (Camshaft Position Sensor) symptons:

Misfire, Longer to start, random engine stalling(scary and dangerous), poor engine running.

The engine themselves are bulletproof, its the eletronics that surround it.

Leading on from that, I'm guessing the brake down was a series of things, misfiring, then eventually stalling and falling to restart due to CPS overheated as well as being worn through age and use.

Other eletronics to look if misifiring are the Coil Packs also, tends to be 50/50 with these as well.

Furthermore, ZEUS has made a good comment towards the oil side of things,

    Welcome and Good Luck.

  3. SOLVED! Thanks for all the help guys,

After speaking to Mark @ Abbey regarding the UpRev and if anything could have happened, as soon as I mentioned the code he knew the problem/solution straight away.

ECU Base ROM was CD700 with the cruise control DTC, knew base ROM has been flashed to CD800 without CC and all is now well.

Thanks to all involved, great service from everyone as expected!

  4. You have a company called MXP Performance who made whats called "MXP SP Quad Tip" Exhaust.

Looks like they stopped making it for the 350z and only make it for the 370z and GT-R now.

Also a company called "Power-Enterprise" made one couple of years back, but also have stopped.

Both of these was around or near abouts the £1000.

You could always go to somewhere like "PowerFlowExhaust" stick in your REG, and then in additional requirements ask for quad tips and maybe provide a picture on how you want the styling to be done.

For what you want, you'll probably have to have a custom build, which might work out cheaper, and you get what you want.

  5. Whats your mileage buddy?

Best to replace both CPS (Camshaft Position Sensor) at the same time if their getting old, if that's what you think is wrong.

Do you have any other symptoms generally a knackerd CPS starts causing all sorts of weird problems:

Longer to start, random stalling, misfiring.

Don't buy aftermarkets please, atleast buy good 2nd-hand used at minimum, you have been warned.

    Lewis.

  6. Agreed, how hard can it possibly be for them to design a sensor that tells you when oil is low, rather than when you're f*cked?!

Quick pretest before the car is started when it's stone cold overnight and job's a carrot. In fairness, a lot of modern posher stuff will do this (Pork and BMW engines certainly do, I'm not sure on others).

Exactly this. So many reports on the forum of 'light is on therefore its doom' why the hell would a manufacturer put in a system whereby they kindly let you know there is a problem, just after the problem causes potentially catastrophic damage. The mind boggles.

The light that gets shown is not "Low Oil" or "No Oil" light, its "Low Oil Pressure" which in turn means faulty oil pump, or low/no pressure (due to low/no oil pressuring the system)

  7. Evening all,Just took the beast out for a drive, 10 minutes into the journey after pulling out of a junction the EML comes on solidly. So from experience, I do some quick testing make sure the car is running OK, which it was.Pull over, turn off, do the EML blink count, and collected the number 1564?Done a quick search online while I was pulled over to find it means the ASCD Steering Switch? Some people say its the cruise control thats faulty, but my car is non-gt, does not have the unit installed.Anyways cleared the code, has no come back on yet, touch wood.Any ideas?PS: the car does have a standard aftermarket stero, which was never been hooked up to the steering wheel since I have owned, so does not work anyway.

  8. What do they do to give you a pops and bangs map?

I'm not techincal enough to answer that,

But I have found a sweet spot, bring the revs up to just past 3K quickly, let go of throttle and quickly apply about 5%-10% of throttle and hold during the overrun.

Works best in lower 3 gears as I think after that its going to quick so the sound is travelling away quicker.

  9. Finally got an UpRev re-flash done @ Abbey MotorSport yesterday, and I'm soooo happy.

    Details of the Car:

    VQ35DE 2004 (Non-RevUp | Non-GT) 276BHP@Flywheel

    Oil: Castrol EDGE 5W40

    Spark Plugs: NGK PLFR5A-11

Mods (Did not buy from Abbey):

    Full Japspeed Exhaust

    - K2 Backbox + Mid-Pipe: £229

    - Y-Pipe: £109

    - Silenced Decats: £89

    5/16 Plenum Spacer

    Cosworth Panel Filter

    K&N Oil Filter

    The Results:

    Torque (@Hubs):

    Before: 233.2lbft | After: 242.7lbft | Gain: 9.5

    HP (@Hubs):

    Before: 245.8HP | After: 260.3HP | Gain: 14.5

Not only are the gains very good for the in-expensive mods I've selected, but to know it's still pumping out power is great.

And ofcourse, the pops and bangs, it's amazing.

Unfortunatly do not have cruise control so opted to have pops and bangs full time.

The fact I can control the pops and bangs with clever throttle control from what Mark showed me, I absolutley love it :)

THANK YOU MARK AND ALL @ ABBEY MOTORSPORT TOP NOTCH CUSTOMER SERVICE.

  10. Mod's please move if This is in the wrong place :)

Absolutely DREADING this question, but I have a feeling my clutch is starting to go, it's not slipping at all, but it makes a gurring noise (nothing painful, you can just feel if) when I use it first thing, only on cold mornings though, every other time it's fine?

I might also have to add in, after revving it in the tunnel at trax, I smelt burning, and when leaving trax, at a round about the car literally shook as I lifted it up to move forwards, almost as if there wasn't enough on the accelerator (which there was), but I haven't had this problem since?

I am not brilliant with cars so if there is something else I can look at before hand please let me know.

Don't need this after just blowing everything on my wrap! :(

    Olly

The first bolded bit, this is the most common (if its what I'm thinking it is) first cold start, get between 5-10mph and get a nice 2secs gurrrr as you say ;p

Has done this every morning for about the last year.

Second bold, did you rev it with it in gear with clutch down or clutch neutral with clutch down?

When you "press" you are disengaging the mechanisms.

Whenever I go for exhaust noise in a tunnel, I drop to neutral take foot off clutch (coasting) then start revving.
