I wouldn't go the decat route. I have on previous cars and such a hassle swopping them out or bribing a tester every year. Performance over HFCs is not noticeable on the road. Standard cats however are restrictive and will noticeably impact on throttle response.
HFCs sometimes, more often than not, get through an MOT. Not guaranteed though.

80 and 90s cars are modern classics now, hence their increase in value... but as has been said only the good/exotic or relatively rare examples (Cosworth 500, Imprezza 22B, Evo TME... anyone?). It usually takes a car to become a classic proper (aka 40+ years old) and in good condition before any old car is worth money. Most are scrapped before that stage, if not worthy.
I reckon the zed, for example, has pretty much hit rock bottom price wise now. We'll see a load at around the £2k mark for a year or two before they go to the scrapper in the sky and then the ones that are left and unmolested will start to increase in value in another 10 years or so from now.
-
My first zed is on 60k miles now as is my old Impreza. Glad they are still being enjoyed

They're CHEBBS where I am from

It's close enough, even presented legally. Better than getting pulled by the coppers all the time, or shelling out thousands on a plate that gets closer to what you want to say.
I just went for the dyslexic approach and because I am a tight old git - my name is Dunbar and I have D1 NBR. I know what it means and it disguises the age of my car
-
That plate isn't worth anything though mate... unless I am missing something?
DVLA would charge £250 to register something like that but as a private sale as I say I can't see any real value.
You're obviously not called Melanie nor Melinda nor are you former West Brom manager Pepe Mel
I am called Melanie actually but you didn't assume that my car was made before 2006
Okay, only the last bit is true...

DVLA would charge £250 - £500 to register something like that but as a private sale as I say I can't see any real value unless you know a lot of MELs :-)

Can't ask all this and not tell us what plate you got...
The wheels are bog standard Nissan OEM wheels. What those unfortunate enough not to get the Rays optional extra ended up with.

If I was still looking, I'd be going to see this: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/used-cars/nissan/350-z/used-nissan-350-z-3-5-v6-2dr-leicester-fpa-201510167906471
Agreed on the pull of them. I went 10 years, lots of amazing cars and missed my zed... so found an exact replacement a decade later

25% off... shy bairns get nowt I suppose :-)

Great advice already on here and very sad to hear. I would consult a solicitor immediately and get them to begin proceedings for me personally.
Once resolved, please return and name and shame to help others avoid dealing with these folks in future.

I appreciate dynos aren't always as accurate as can be made out and that the before and after are the important things, but it is an interesting assumption being made about the original measurement. Would 284bhp/345Nm really be so unbelievable on a well maintained 16k mile engine with a high flow exhaust and filter fitted? Question, rather than statement to the more knowledgeable folk on here.

I've had both an Evo and an Impreza in the past and I think you should look at the latter for everything other than a weekend/track car. The Evo is only marginally better than the Sti Impreza in stock form on the road, but is far more expensive to run, modify and maintain. They both have poor build quality and are, for some reason, universally hated by all other road users. Expect never to be let out of a junction ever again
Imprezas can look good too: https://drive.google...cXREUG9LN3dmS0k
That one was stage 1 tuned to 360bhp/390lb/ft
My Evo was a stock VIII 340 - didn't have it long at all.

No, mine is silver. It has only lived our way for about 3 weeks now. I'll wave if I see any other zeds of course

Those numbers though even if it is low miles. I always thought a revup remap was the only way forward. Im from Durham so this looks a good place to go. Mines 53 plate with 100k on it so I don't think it will see such an improvement. How does it drive now then as most whom get the revup state it feels so much better.
Go and have a chat with them or contact them via Facebook. They're very helpful and will probably be able to tell you more than I can about what to expect from your car. Tell em I referred you and I want something free
I've only drove it a few miles from Durham to Beamish, so a bit of motorway, urban and b roads. It just feels much smoother and instant on the throttle and in all gears regardless of speed. Makes an excellent car even better and well worth doing.
It is easy to get carried away with the bhp numbers but it is the torque lines you want to look at most in my opinion as I reckon that is what has been the vast improvement with my car and the way it drives - see it better on this image than my shaky photo: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9TzG4SWiCpIOXFsQTJOR0dtQUE

Them numbers for a DE are staggering.
Must be the new spark plugs and oil I put in
-
Yeah. Been well looked after too. Off shore worker owned it, so only got driven/pampered when he was home over the years.
It'll go up now though as I am using it as a daily driver and do on average 8k miles a year. These cars need to be used in my opinion
-
It's a DE 2003 (53) plate on 16k miles.

Ha ha. I often have the same debate with my Scottish mates.
I don't know what mapping software they use. I just know they do custom maps. Certainly have a well kitted out workshop and dyno, if you can tell anything from that. One of the best maps I've ever had on a car was by a chap up North called Andy Forrest who worked out of a shed and mapped cars on the road with his laptop
It's all about the mapper for me. These guys are good. More info: http://durhamremaps.co.uk/benefits/

A company called Durham Remaps. Very knowledgeable, friendly and professional. They've done a few zeds now.
I'd certainly recommend them to anyone up North.

Custom map on my 2003 350Z today.
Major service just done at 16k miles when buying the car and it has the following modifications:
Invidia exhaust
JapSpeed HFC
JWT pop charger

I asked for linear power as opposed to big numbers, so happy with the results. Drives really well
-
Hard to tell from the slightly blurry image but just cracked 300 then? Pretty good then.
Maybe post the results in the "dyno" thread if you like.

Yeah, sorry shaky hands
Aye 300 bhp but I told him I was more interested in linear power delivery than numbers. I'll get a better photo and post in that other thread.

I had annoying CEL due to a sensor on the exhaust that, despite countless resets, kept coming back on. So, I decided to get the problem mapped out. Attached are the results - I think the car pulls lovely through all gears and has made an excellent car even better in my opinion. For £350 I think it is well worth doing.
Only mods are Invidia backbox, JapSpeed HFC and JWT pop charger.

Fair point and quite a long production run. Maybe 20 years... what's a decade between strangers eh
