  1. Flippin' 'eck that's some jump in pressure. Looks like they'll heat up on the chute down to the start so.

Good info there, ta. Will bring a temperature reader to see what's going on too. Planning on running more pressure in the fronts this year judging by the state of last years wear.

  2. I'll have a bit of feedback about the Nankangs after this weekend if you haven't bought anything yet. I'd originally ordered a set of the soft compound VR1 from Extreme (only £118 per corner) but they seem to be booming as a company and can't keep up with demand currently. Tried opting for their Wet compound which is rumoured to be incredible for 1 lap but they sent out the wrong ones.

Couldn't wait any longer - my 888s were down to the bars - so have stuck some Ar-1s on today.  Will let you know what to expect.

Hoping to get back to launching in under 3 seconds again..

  3. There is a built in delay in throttle response in the low gears - great in traffic but not when you're going flat out. The tuners remove this delay usually. The throttle controller is handy if you want to calm it down in the wet for example.

  4. The throttle controller is a good cheap bit of extra speed. Mid corner subtly suffers though unless you can flick between modes with a third hand...

If you want to actually get quicker times its all about grip, a diff and weight. Overall though, if it doesn't feel quick enough for you even these mods won't help. If you want a car to feel crazy fast you'd need to get something light and turbo

  5. There was a pretty handy driver who ran AR1s on his Integra last year. He went from 67.5s on Ad08s down to 66.2s.

The gains should be massive on the Z. It'll be like going from a wet to a dry track. Just the start alone will be miles better. Much more fun to be had planting it instead of having to tip toe around too.

Worth getting a ground sheet now. If you do a big slide over the line and park up you end up with big divots on them when you drive off again..

  6. First run on my r888r on a cold track matched my best ever time on MPSS, on a hot summer's day. Problem is they don't come in the softer compound that they used to make so they're not quite what they could be.

Polish remoulds are only listed up to 265 wide but they might do larger now? They're one of the few who actually do compounds. R5 or R7 look about right.

They do a model on new casings now too.

Personally, I enjoyed watching you launch and slither round the first corner.

  7. Does the tube on the intake side have to be on the intake or can it just breathe from anywhere? Can't get my head round it. Trying to run the big fat tube to the air filter is causing problems.

  8. Grass roots motorsport isn't on board with EVs yet. Someone ran a Leaf last year but now electrics are banned at our club..

ELECTRIC & HYBRID CARS AT HAREWOOD

At this time, BARC Yorkshire is unable to accept entries for Electric and/or Hybrid Cars at Harewood Speed Hillclimb. We are unable to fully comply with the current MSA requirements for safe handling of these vehicles. For further details please contact the MSA and ask for their ‘Guidance for organizers of Speed events’ for Hybrid & Electric Cars V1.0 29/9/17 or contact Chris Seaman [compsec@harewoodhill.com] who will be happy to supply a copy of the document.

Rats. Looks like my electric supercharger fan is going in the bin then...

  9. Hey there Joe,

I found the Buddy Club seats and rails were noticeably lower than the cloth ones. Very light too, but about £400 I think..

Failing that it's a bit of fab.

PS. You never should have sold that Zed :)

  10. Just paid 1200 quid to keep a 10 year old 1.8 ES Civic (similar to the s-type) alive for a few more years. Clutch and gearbox problems. Would have been junked otherwise.

Could have gone for a new one but the car still feels tight and solid and all the toys work so it would have felt like a waste of money. Could have got a shed but that would have been somebody else's 10 years of speed bumps and driving hard from cold. Not to mention all the farts in the seat and the dead skin etc.

  11. Bit of data at last. In the first round I went with some mid-range tyres and a Kaaz 1.5 but was slower than last year. I put that down to the slightly heavier wheels they were on.

Next event, put R888rs onto the Rays. Previous year's best was 67.82 over the full season. Matched it on the very first practice run on a cold track. Got it down to 66.39 after 3 more runs. Last run was quicker but didn't bring it home..

Finished the year with a best of 66.17. Really annoyed not to get into the 65s tbf but it was bloody great fun trying.

I found lower pressures (28) gave great launch times (2.55 sec 60 feet) but struggled a smidge for lateral grip and hammered the tyres. They look pretty funky now. Higher pressures (34) cornered really well but launched slower by a tenth or two which adds up to quite a bit in the second sector too. Absolutely no warming allowed - I tried to sneak a bit of heat in on the way to the line early on in the year but got told off for excessive weaving and braking . To be fair the eagle-eyed Marshalls take no crap - as it should be.

Here's a short comparison of two corners with the different setups to listen to. Hope it helps anyone wondering about diffs.
