  3. Due to the number of threads recently about people asking about wheel offsets and fitments, and not being able to understand them, I have made this idiots guide.

For all you people who are about to post up on this thread giving all this indepth details about it and explaining where I have went wrong - THIS IS AN IDIOTS GUIDE. Short and to the point just to help people get their heads around it initially, before they head off and do more reading around the forum.

    PCD:

Pitch Circle Diameter is the diameter of a circle drawn through the centre of your wheels bolt holes.

Zeds are a 5 stud, with a PCD of 114.3

    PCD-Explained2.png

    Offset:

Effectively the offset is also the distance from the centre-line of the wheel to the hub face.

    Therefore :

If you put a wheel on the same hub with a bigger offset, the wheel will sit further inside the wheel arch because the wheels bolting face will have to move further in to meet the hub.

Alternatively if it has a smaller offset it will sit further out from the wheel arch.

Zero Offset - The plane of the hub mounting surface is even with the centerline of the wheel.

Positive Offset - The plane of the hub mounting surface is shifted from the centerline toward the front or outside of the wheel. Positive offset wheels are generally found on front wheel drive cars and newer rear drive cars.

Negative Offset - The plane of the hub mounting surface is toward the back or brake side of the wheel's centerline.

    WheelOffset5gif-1.jpg

Zed offsets depend on how agressive a stance you want.

The OEM Rays are 8j wide, with an offset of +30.

If keeping the OEM Rays, members often fit 10mm spacers to push out the rims essentially creating an offset of +20.

When you are looking to buy new alloys for your car, the offset is important because you qill require your new wheels to clear the brake calipers. And for looks wise you want them to nicely fll the arches, and not to be lost inside them somewhere.

Here is a link to a wheel offset calculator (this link takes you to an external site that has no affiliation with 350z-uk)

Maybe this will help u too

  4. I changed oil and filter and refilled 4,7 liters,..........additional info. between the min and max signs at the oil level gauge is roundabout 1,6 litres and not as usual at "normal" ;) cars 1litre. keep caution,.....i tested it because some folks in the german forum told me it is 1 litre and i refuelled 1litre at the min. gauge and there was a leak to the maximum.

  5. In most cases the problems occurs if the clutch isnt correct bleeded. do the bleeding of the clutch as it is described in the manual,..........i had the same problem last year but after a correct bleeding of the system the problem had gone.If u did the bleeding correct,.........maybe the slave clutch cylindre is bad,.....change this item

  6. Disclaimer - this worked for me and has for lots in the USA. I am not a trained mechanic - if you are unsure of mechanics leave this to an expert. I take no responsibility for any works that you choose to do to your car – any works are at your own judgement and risk.

I would rate this repair as easy diy.

My car has suffered from the well documented clicking noise (from drivers side) rear axle since purchase.

There is an awful lot of information on the web about it - but the more you research it, the more different answers are thrown up. (It is possible of course that various different problems exist).

I have however come to the conclusion that most posts assume that the universal joints are the problem. This initially seems to be logical - but I now believe in the vast majority of cases these are a red herring.

My car exhibited 'classic' signs of the clicking axle problem. From standing still each time I moved off (forward or backwards) the rear axle would make a clicking sound. Also underway if I stepped off the gas and then back on it would often click. The click is not a constant click, just a one off click each time.

Logic would assume that the universal joint may have a play in it, and that the 'slack' being taken up is what is causing the click. I was so convinced that this was the answer to the problem that I was about to purchase new universal joints.

I then came across this thread –

    http://m.my350z.com/...ad.php?t=428639

Initially on the above thread it stated the fix was to remove the axle, grease and rotate the joint etc...

But by the end of the thread the problem had been traced to insufficient lubrication to the inner edge of the axle splins and collar.

Better still, to add lubrication just requires the axle nut to be slacked off, the axle pushing in around 1 1/2 inches and the area being lubricated.

With hope more than expectation I did this today. Result - instant and 100% cure of the noise. If you read the thread you will see that persons who have done this fix a year or more ago have not had the problems return.

It is however worth ensuring that a high quality grease is used (some have used a marine type).

Tools required: 32mm axle socket (I purchased one from eBay at £3.8p), Breaker bar (tesco £5.99), Artist paint brushes to help apply the grease (12 pack from eBay £1.97, grease (I used Lucas x-tra heavy duty marine & bearing grease), lump of wood, torque wrench and pliers.

First off jack up the car and remove the wheel (chock wheels). Use the pliers to remove the split pin. Attach the socket and loosen nut with the breaker bar or similar (anti-clockwise). Spin the nut off so it becomes flush with the end of the thread. Now push the axle in (you may wish to clonk it with a lump of wood or similar if it is stiff – by keeping the nut flush with the axle thread end, you should protect the thread from damage – don’t hit it too hard though!). Once it’s pushed in as far as it will go, look behind the disc and you will see the axle splins and collar exposed. Apply grease liberally to this area. Release the handbrake (ensure wheels chocked) and rotate the wheel so you can grease the other areas.

Once greased, tighten the nut again (I think the torque is 177lbs) and this will draw the axle back out. Insert the split pin again and put the wheel back on - great now you have no more clicking! ïŠ

Job time around 35 mins per side.

    Tips.

    1. It’s a good idea to chock wheels as the hand brake is not effective when raising the rear wheels (also you may need to release the handbrake to rotate the hub for access when greasing.

    2. It is a good idea to use axle stands as well as the jack for safety.

    Good luck

Thats the way i did it too,................no more clicking. Thanx to the u.s guys

  7. Thats the "kick" for roadster drivers,...... a good friend of me from the german 350z forum

But the Ring has its negative sides too,.........my best friend died there in the same year,........charly, i never forget u

Thats the reason i decided to stop driving on the nordschleife

  8. :welcome:

A fair few UK Zed owners visit the Ring so you may even meet a few (if you decide you want to!)

That would be nice,.........maybe i can show them some wonderful roads across the "Eifel", too :teeth:

Nothing wrong with your English - you might be able to help a few out on here

Hope you enjoy the forum and we know many of the traders on here can ship abroad, should you need parts etc

Thanx,..........if the parts are "road legal" for germany,....u know we have that fu...... TÃœV here in germany

  9. Thanx for that warm :welcome: and nice to know that some of u speak german

Welcome, and don't worry, if you feel the need, dann ist deutsch auch kein problem

Nebenbei, mein deutsch ist bestimmt genauso gut wie dein englisch.

Aber Ich habe ein paar fragen bezüglich der anmeldung eines 350Z in Deutschland, kosten, TÜV, usw.

    No problem,..........nahrung_0152.gif

  10. Hi to all,

I am new here and want to introduce myself.

My name is Michael, i am 50 y.o and i live in Germany,.....roundabout 18 km far from the nurburgring circuit. I had a bad motorcycle accident last year and thanx god i am still alive. So i promised my wife to look not for a further motorbike but a powerful car,........so i came to the 350z,......and i am so happy with this car. Its a roadster as u can c in my gallery. I was a member of the german 350z forum but i wasnt happy there,.....to much stupid posts there. So i decided to quit with the german forum and join the british one. :teeth:

I hope my english is not too poor so u can follow my threads and posts.

Best regards and hope to have a good time with u
