  1. Well, I thought I might get 3 replies, not 3 pages! Good stuff. OK, some examples. Celtic Tuning visited and remapped my wife's Honda Civic 2.2 TD. 138 bhp to 180 hp. £300 and the difference on the road was stunning. It was as quick as my at the time Ibiza Cupra turbo/supercharged. My S3 they took from 261 bhp to 312 bhp. Again cheap and cheerful but superb job. N/A cars never see big increases, I just wondered about the licence fee.
  2. There is every chance that I am overlooking something here but.... Why do I have to pay a tuner x amount for his time and x amount for a licence? I have had cars re-mapped countless times by the major players for Audi, BMW, Seat, VW, Renault, Ford, Vauxhall, etc. and only ever paid their fee. How is a company on the other side of the world going to know a person has uploaded a new map? Essentially, why can a firm near me remap an Audi S3 for £250 without a problem? But each 370 has to pay hundreds for a licence? Genuine, if naïve question.

    Next step

Car going in with RS Tuning very soon Air filters staying standard but cleaned. Quite fancy a back (exhaust) box with a little more noise. Any suggestions for maker of same?
  4. Seriously quick! The quickest car I have owned and still own is a Caterham R500 Superlight 2004. It has 15 bhp more than stock, at 265 bhp and weighs 440 kgs. Wastes Nissan GTRs and Porsche turbos below 120 mph but is rather slow looking at your creation!
  5. TDI North just quoted me £453.
  6. I think I will ask RS if they can be a little more competitive then go with Abbey if not.
  7. Near Buxton. I am not sure of your logic. It is a two minute job, so even if they were charging for fitting we are talking about £1.50 I labour and the price comparison would remain the same.
  8. So given the prices above who would you use?
  9. I am currently rebuilding the top end of my Ducati 1198 so I can change filters.
  10. They don't charge for fitting the filters. This car is the easiest to change filter/s on from all I can remember. Just the remap charges are the same difference.
  11. An up rev remap and 2 air filters. Abbey. £404 fitted. Horhams £470 fitted. RS Tuning £520 fitted. Quite a difference between cheapest and dearest.
  12. I cannot afford the likes of a Ferrari 458 or Maclaren but I have owned most of the slightly lesser sports cars and coupes. Porsche 996 turbo, Lancer Evo FQ360, Jaguar XKR, Aston Vantage, BMW M5, Porsche Cayman S, BMW M3, Audi RS4, etc. etc. But I do enjoy this car a lot. A few car fan friends have criticised it for being a bit heavy and low powered, but it's great value. 2011 370Z with every option, Nismo alloys and brand new tyres for £18,250. Amazing buy imo.
  13. Ah the age old super versus turbo for charged induction. Superchargers work pretty much from idle so no lag, yet often peak bhp can be very close to redline, like my Cooper S Works. Turbo engines often have nothing...bang...nothing, but deliver bigger bhp outputs and rev lower as they work on 'free' exhaust gas, a supercharger needs to be driven. That saps power. Me? I'd go for a modern twin turbo set up. Many have much less lag nowadays. Sensible amounts of boost, decent intercooler.
  14. Thanks everyone, cake especially. It sounds like I am being tight but I change my cars twice a year and have done since 1974. Some crazy years have seen 10 or so cars in the 12 months! So rarely spend a lot on tuning. I like this car but I know that i could easily see a Nissan GTR for sale and act on impulse!
  15. I think Horshams up-rev remap and 2 Cosworth filters may be the answer. Y pipe? What's that?
  16. Like I said at the start I don't want to waste money that I will never see come sale time; it is all about keeping it cheap.
  17. Oh right, high flow cats. I think I'd rather de-cat, if I can get through the mot! Have they got 4 cats, maybe delete 2? Any downside to de-cat...after all is going to be £500 cheaper!
  18. I have just bought a 2011 370Z, a very nice fully optioned one I got at a great price. My previous 6 sporty cars were all turbocharged and easily tuned but what about the 370Z, can anything worthwhile be gained without spending thousands I will never see again come selling time? A re-map maybe? If so by who? Who's best? Air filters? Is it really worth spending £120 for the 2 needed compared to the stock ones? I hear about Y pipes? What's the deal there and what exhaust mods could I make without big bucks or failing the MOT? Thanks for any advice.
