Just thought I'd update this thread with my observations of the AppRadio.
Have had it a few months now and although it looks quite nice in the dash I'd say the unit is a little slow and unresponsive and the range of compatible apps is pretty poor.
I really only use it for radio (which is good) and playing podcasts occasionally, spotify I don't really bother with as the ec touch app has a tendency to crash. Bluetooth connectivity is good and making/receiving calls works well.
I also have a big irritant with it asking permission to launch the control app every time you plug your phone in or want to switch to apps mid-drive, makes it really awkward as you're driving along as you have to get your phone out and press the screen.

I guess it depends on your definition of classic so to speak.
Will the 350z at some point gain classic status, perhaps have a following as the 240z does, i would probably say yes.
Will the 350z become an appreciating classic with the values increasing, no, well not for a long long time!
If you take a view of what jdm cars of the 90's are classic or an appreciating classic, you can only really pick the NSX, perhaps ltd edition v spec gtr's, both relatively low production number cars, there is not even much from the 80's, only example i can think of is the AE86, but i wouldnt say they were appreciating like the NSX. 70's is a different story though, quite a few high value jdm cars.
At some point values will reach a trough and possibly rise to a peak as good clean examples are hard to find and values will probably get closer between the 370z and 350z imho, but they are only just over 10 years old. This topic was widely discussed about Rx7's on the dedicated forums and they are 10 years older again and values are still not rising, firming up, but not rising.
You need to be thinking Supra, R32, R33 Gtr's, good examples are still fetching a premium and think how many of them were made. I get the GTR thing (pedigree, heritage etc) but Supras, there is nothing really ground breaking or brilliant about Supras (i have had 3), but they obviously have the cult following which drives the 2nd value, so i think there could be hope for the 350z
This.
I was going to post a proper reply but, just this.

Hope that helps.
It does. Thanks.

This is a common problem, frequently reported here on the forum.
The Zed interiors are quite vulnerable to scratches and general wear and tear.
If you use search, you will find that:-
Plastidip isn't that durable.
Sanding down and then matt black paint spray is a cost effective option.
Wrapping/hydro dipping seems to be the most durable option
If it helps, I recently removed the drivers side interior door pull, sanded it down and sprayed it matt black.
It now looks great and I'm pleased with the overall appearance.
I was rather hesitant to do this, but using the guides on the forum, I found it quite easy to do.
It;s worth trying it for the improvement it makes..
Thanks, I shall search unless you can point me to a useful resource.

Common problem, people have plasti-dipped theirs however its not hard wearing.
Best to sand down and spray or buy new.
...or have it hydro dipped.
Any idea on cost? Where to get it done?
How easy are the door handles to remove? I havn't been able to work out how to get the button off the centre compartment door.
-
Looking at this post in the zeds for sale section I noticed the plastic around the door handle seems to have a lot of little scratches.
My car suffers exactly the same as well paint having come off the button to open the compartment above the stereo.
Is this a common problem to all zeds, a particular model year or just an odd coincidence? My car is not exactly heavily used at only 34k miles in 7 years!

Never heard of these, need to buy a whole raft of new cleaning supplies so I'll be putting this on my list.
-
Not a recent spot but, I often see an orange 350z with Nismo spoiler parked up on Caerleon Road in Newport (S. Wales).
Is it a members car?
-
Oh well I didn't know this, I torqued mine to 120nm and don't appear to have done any damage (hopefully).
-
Yep just put a small amount of grease on the studs, I did it this week, used regular multi purpose grease though as copper grease is not actually essential and I already had some in the garage.
-
Android has mirror link I think which is supposed to be a cross device standard, as usual apple has to go the proprietary route.
I've just put an AppRadio in my car and although it's not perfect it suits my needs just fine. Much cheaper than a full nav head unit too!
-
I've spent today installing mine and it literally took me all day and was not hassle free. If Halfords can actually do it for £30 then it's probably a good price I'd have thought.
-
Well as ridiculous as it is, it looks like I wasted £8 on that aerial adapter as it doesn't seem to be needed at all. Installed today and seems to be working nicely!
Thanks for your help Meeerrrk.

These are the four products I bought from ICT.
Aerial adapter with the unexpected blue lead is 21-118.
-
Reading the description of the aerial adapter on the ICT website it says "Also used as half of the cable needed when fitting an FM modulator."
Is the blue wire used to connect to an FM modulator and of no use to me?
-
Hi Jon, I fitted a pioneer to our Zed recently.
The connections A, B, C need to be connected together, this will power your aerial amp and switch on command for the Bose amplifier.
I can't really see where D is coming from from in your picture but I guess it is probably for your steering controls interface?
Any questions give me a shout, I'll subscribe got he thread

Thanks very much.
Are you saying I need to attach A to C? I guess I could either cut the connector off C and solder them together or attach an equivalent connector to A.
The aerial adapter is plugged into the head unit on the far right, there is a black cable that comes out to the grey connector on the far right of the picture, D is then a bare ended blue wire which comes out of the grey connector. Any ideas what this is?
-
Yep I actually did this but I think it's just really stiff, I'll try using pliers or tweezers to pinch and pull the connection as bare fingers doesn't seem to work for me.

Hello, as mentioned in a previous thread I have just bought a Pioneer app radio and have also bought the ICT loom etc. that I need to replace the existing Bose head unit on my 57 plate zed.
Now all the bits have been delivered I am having a play with the cable to see how it all fits together and all seems to be going well bar one or two connections I'm not sure on.
In the image above the blue and white cable labelled with A and B is part of head unit cabling and is labelled 'System Remote Control'. C is part of the ICT cabling and is labelled 'Amplifier Remote turn on'. D is attached to the aerial adapter that was supplied by ICT and is a bare end wire.
Regarding connecting B, the Pioneer manual states:
"The pin position of the ISO connector will differ depending on the vehicle type. Connect *6 (the left side of the connector B in the photo above) to *7 (the right side of the connector B in the photo above) when Pin 5 is an aerial control type. In other types of vehicles, never connect *6 and *7."
I've sort of been following the super guide in the stickies but Kenwood seems slightly more complicated than the Pioneer unit I have.
1. As per the quote from the manual above, is pin 5 (the solid blue wire in the ICT cabling) an aerial control type? Should I leave this connected as it is currently?
2. In the super guide in the stickies it is suggested that the amplifier remote turn on (C above) should be attached to a blue and white wire from the head unit, in my case should I be connecting this to A above?
3. Should D attach to A? If not, what should be done with D?
Any help gratefully appreciated.
Jon

Ye that's a good price did you go pioneer ?

Also have a £25 voucher which will knock the price down a touch more

Brilliant thanks all, I've ordered these four items from InCarTec, does that look right?
Also reserved an appradio 3 at my local Halfrauds (£299.99 seems like a decent price looking around online?)
-
Thanks, this does seem like the product for me.

Just push in the connector latch with a small screw driver fiddly the first time but then you will get used to it.
I find it helps to get my head up by the windscreen to see what I am doing.
Yep I tried this too but it still didn't budge
Is the connector latch on the windscreen side or on the side towards the rear of the car?
-
Argh, I'm an idiot, I've posted this in the wrong section, I mean't to post it in 350z ICE.
Mods could this be moved please?

Hi guys,
Have just been and taken my dash apart partly as I was trying to remove the cubby cover and partly because I'm thinking of changing the head unit and thought I'd have a poke around and see how it works.
I followed this guide and all was going well until I got to step 13 removing the white wire clip for the oil/battery gauges. No matter what I tried I just couldn't get this unclipped pinching, squeezing pulling (hard!).
Anybody else had issues with this clip or got any tips/suggestions? Appreciate any help.
Thanks.

Mine came with the correct adapter for iPhone 5 so no complaints there.
The iPod option is also greyed out for me but, after reading the manual I discovered this was intentional behaviour. Still not sure I understand it though.
