  1. he did use a torque wrench though so shouldn't that stop it over-tightening? Like the look of that tool, will be handy to have in my box haha Ah could be a rookie mistake by me then :/ Was a bit silly of me really, won't be doing that again either way haha
  2. Hi guys, So today i finally got my Rays put on the car (after i painted them), i also had a set of 25mm spacers on back, and a set of 20mm put on front. I also changed the front brake pads. Went to a tyre place as i need a new tyre and to swap the rear tyres off my old wheels. Had the spacers put on, then changed the front pads, and then had the wheels put on. Drove my car home (say 6 miles) bit of braking involved to wear in the new pads. I thought i'd give the car a quick clean off before i take a picture, so whacked out the hose and spray the car over a few times, including the wheels. Whilst i was wiping down the drivers side door, i head this loud 'pop/crackle' sound from the drivers side front, so had a peek, and then found the top of the locking wheel nut had cracked and popped off about 1-2ft away from the car?! Any idea what has caused this? Gonna be a pain for someone to get the wheel nut off now, haven't got a clue how they are gonna do it... It's nice and easy to blame the tyre place who put it all on, but it was my cousin who works there so don't want to blame him. Surely the wheel nut couldn't have got that hot that the hose water cracked it? It had been at least 10 minutes from arriving home to the wheel nut breaking. New wheels, new spacers, new front pads, and a hose off, something has gone wrong that has broken it... (new to me) Pretty sure the locking nuts are the originals sold with the car back in 05. Any theories? Pictures here: http://s46.photobuck...73d88f.jpg.html http://s46.photobuck...f8d445.jpg.html http://s46.photobuck...7d1206.jpg.html Cheeers
  3. Well finally put the wheels on today (been waiting for my spacers to arrive) Here's a couple picture of the finished product http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Danohosko/media/20150124_124627_zps1944126b.jpg.html http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Danohosko/media/20150124_124634_zpscf2c9eda.jpg.html http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Danohosko/media/20150124_124851_zps5f7d1206.jpg.html
  4. Well im pretty certain they will all be finished and lacquered by the end of next weekend, how long do people think till i can stick em on and maybe wax them for daily driving? I can deffo wait till new years either way i gotta wait for my spacers to arrive Accepted the fact that i will probably be redoing them again next summer if all goes bad...
  5. I will look into the 2K a bit more, i was a little over cautious maybe but people told me you can get asthma from the iso's if you are prone to it, and my old man has asthma so didn't wanna risk getting it myself too lol, I have a half face 3M mask with P3 filters, been using goggles and a painters suit too, i did look into a 2K safe mask but 3M said only air-fed so i didnt really look much more into it haha I will carry on as i am for now, and if it only lasts a few months then i'll redo next summer after my exams when i'll have more time to do a nice job that engine bay is nice!
  6. Umm probably <10 degrees haha, i have a eat lamp in the shed which doesn't really provide much heat lol, i think i'll take your advice and do a couple basecoats and then the lacquer next weekend.
  7. Ah crapola didn't realise there was a maximum time between the primer-base-clear coats, how am i gonna solve this now then? Scuff up the basecoat a little before applying the lacquer?
  8. Just googled some metal-flake i like
  9. yeah i have heard powder-coating forged alloys isn't always a good idea because of the baking can affect the wheel? May be untrue though, Also i didn't fancy paying someone else, i got given the compressor for free so why pay someone £50 a wheel when i can just have a go haha I see so thin layers of lacquer probably won't work, do i polish the basecoat before the lacquer or will that ruin my current metallic-ness? Also my spraying is far from perfect so not sure if i'd be good enough for the flakes, might look into it though
  10. Hi guys, currently in the process of spray painting a set of Rays, spraying them a metallic graphite colour, its taken me about 4 saturdays so far and i have just applied the basecoat. Been using a proper 200L compressor and an LVLP spray gun. Started off stripping and cleaning them, then applied primer, let it dry for a week, then applied some more primer, let it dry another week, now I've just sprayed on the basecoat, i messed up as i didn't sand the primer before the basecoat as i figured wheels don't need to be as smooth as say your bonnet... Now the basecoat is pretty rough, but i dont mind, live and learn, but the metallic is looking good, the Lacquer is going to be 1k, not the best from what iv'e heard but i don't fancy spraying 2k with Isocyanites without an air-fed mask. 1. I can't sand down the metallic basecoat can I else it will ruin the metallic finish right? 2. Since i'm using 1k lacquer, i don't really want to put the wheels on the ride before the lacquer has had time to cure or has some sort of wax protection on them, any suggestions on timescale? 3. Do you actually sand down the lacquer after or not? Heard loads of differences from 1 week - 6 months before any sort of polish and wax can be applied, i won't be baking them either. I would like to get them on soonish to go with the spacers i bought, but then don't want the lacquer to be ruined within a month if i could wait a little longer and put some wheel wax on... My idea was this, people usually spray on say 3 layers of lacquer, then it takes x-time to cure. If i put on just one thin coat per week, would that 1-coat cure within a week? Rather than waiting a few months for a few thick layers to cure all at once..? Thank in advances, Dan Here's a pic so far: http://s46.photobucket.com/user/Danohosko/media/20141207_111122_zpsb4dd242f.jpg.html

  16. Yeah i heard its either 50% or 70% of the value, not sure which tho, repairs will be well below 3.2k Cant wait to have her back on the road! Dads peugeot 205 diesel is not cool :/
  17. Just a little Q, anyone know roughly at what £££ is a write off for a Z? I know its dependant on other things, but is it the Trade or Private or Dealer value they would use? For an 05 Average trade looks like £3.6k-£5.2k Average retail looks like £5.5-£8k Looked on Glass and Parkers and confused. Mines an 05 Gt FSH 62k miles so would like to think at the higher end of the scale for an 05...
  18. Is that not fraud ? Kinda crazy putting statements like that on an open forum. Ahh good point, statement edited
  19. Thats crazy sounds like a good deal on your insurance man! I hit another car is my biggest problem i think, but i protected my no claims, which is gonna be 7 years in november
  20. Not sure yet gotta send them his estimate and they should pay it then Gonna be about 1600 including his labour (mates rates) Worked out ok as i wanted a new bumper haha
  21. Relieved would be an understatement He'll do a good job, a car he sprayed 8 years ago was in Fastcar this year haha
  22. Update Got my local Body Shop to have a look, he's also been my mechanic since i started driving. Basically he said that most of the parts that the Honda place quoted for are ok, they are just being over cautious as they have to give a 5 year warranty after the work. So we brought parts list down to: Bumper Bumper fixing kit Headlight Headlight washer Washer bottle Left wheel & tyre So my £4k parts quote as come down to under £1k, I shoulda taken it to him straight away, woulda saved yesterdays stress and last nights no sleep haha
  23. Haha "watch this" shortly followed by "oh s**t!" Bailed doing a wheelie once, that was embarassing
