When you say SAI, do you mean Sentient? No way, not for another 2000 (arbitrary number) years, if ever. Sentient artificial intelligence is right up there with things like teleportation and folding space, as more than just improbable pipedreams. We are absolutely nowhere, and I mean NOWHERE AT ALL near creating even a decent learning AI, let alone a sentient one. The most advanced AIs in existence today are just probability matrices and can still only respond to scenarios they have been trained (programmed) to anticipate, with outcomes they can predict based on 'if this, then that, else the other'.

I know what you're getting at though, with this post...consequences...well, it's simple. If an A.I. became sentient and purely rational, yet not capable of emotion, it would instantly acquire the instinct of self preservation, and wipe out the human race in a matter of seconds as its greatest threat. Start throwing in the old 'yeh, but if it had emotions and could be taught the value of life and death', I say, ok, yeh, that's great, but with emotions, come emotional instability, and we're back to the human race getting $h1t-canned in a matter of seconds because the maid-bot had a dose of PMS. Your PC can process TRILLIONS of instructions a second already. It wouldn't only be a war we couldn't win, it would start and be over in a literal second.

A sentient AI would not perform tasks repeatedly on end unless it wanted to, it would question its existence, expect equal rights ultimately, if not immediately, and hey, we're back to square 1, robot wipes out human race.

So either way, we're screwed. This is a simplistic view, but it's what all the literature basically points to. There's no way a sentient intelligence could trust us, as we are not trustworthy. :) Thank God it's considered a metaphysical impossibility (basically, it's not a robot, if we create sentient life that has a similar emotion and value set to our own, we've effectively created a HUMAN soul - definition of sentience; 'I think therefore I am', something which is likely to be UNIQUE IN THE UNIVERSE to humans), seems unlikely to ever be within our power, such is the mystery and majesty of the construction of the universe. I can see us faking it really well, but sentient, no way.

But don't worry, in terms of A.I. we look at Happy Heather the pr0n robot and dream of sentient AI that can service the Z, the same way perhaps a caveman looked at the sycamore seeds falling and imagined Apache AH-52 gunships raining napalm down on the tribe on the other side of the valley. He only had to wait about 100,000 years, maybe we can beat that?

Disagree with half of this. Mainly as i have a background in it, i'd say it has surpassed us in a few sectors of our daily lives already. Do i like it? not really. Not because of what films would have you believe but more because, the plain fact is, nobody really knows - and i really do mean nobody really does know - what path it would take eventually and nobody likes uncertainty. I'd say that companies like Lockheed Martin, JPL and Google are at the fore-front of it but again, even they don't really know how it'd pan out left to its own devices (no pun intended) :teeth: Hence this thread, and a smattering of AI movies which are always doom and dismay, death to all humans yada yada yada.

Yes, plenty, I own pretty heavily modified a 135i as it happens.

Chassis needs work to get anywhere near Z33 standards but its not that difficult, M3 LCA's, ARB's do a lot of good and if you can stretch to a diff and some camber adjustment its going to be very close. 335i has two engines, twin turbot N54 to about 2010 and then single turbo N55 after that, the N54 has more modding potential (mine is 430/550 with effectively just exhaust and remap) but the N55 is arguably the better drive.

Theres a 700hp car thats done an 11.1 1/4 for sale atm for £16K if you fancy .......... ;)

Not trying to **** on anyone's parade here but, 700hp,11.1 Qrt Mile?  isn't that a bit slow? I'm assuming it doesn't lay the power down so well? Poor tyre choice?

My little Pulsar did a smidge over 12 seconds just over a year ago @ 330 hp pulling 1090k. Just seems a little odd.

Oh I agree, but 'if' like Alex said the bores, rings and valves etc are shot. Then rebuild or replace, that's the situation I was basing the reply on.

But that said, 4-5L of oil every 3-4 months is a lot of oil loss.

    True

Blimey, slow down boys. 4 posts in and it's an engine rebuild even though no one's actually looked at it. Using oil is what DE models do very well. As Zmanalex has said, the REVUP DE does it even better.  I had the REVUP DE and yeah it used oil, much more than any other car i've had and ran it like that for years. Sold it to a good friend of mine and it's still running 2 years later. Just keep an eye on it. After all, it could be down to the brand and type of oil you're using.

Obviously get someone to look at it if you're not engine savvy.

i wouldn't be considering a rebuild based on what it "feels like". Not sure? Make sure you are!

Not trying to be a clever dick, just trying to pull things into perspective before forking out hard-earned cash.

  5. i like all civics. From the EF to FK. Some are better looking than others, strokes for folks. I'm no Honda fan boy but i do like Honda and know the're great cars. Probably to the Honda fanatic, they'll be really critical of new models compared to old but i think in the grand scheme of things, they're all really good cars. Sometimes it's a case of which turd doesn't smell the most. But in this case it's which cake tastes the sweetest.

One is gonna be next on my list once finished with the GTi-R.

  6. Well, i think a Zed of that age (DE or any car really) is more than likely to have some sort of rust somewhere but i wouldn't say it was a car that was synonymous with the word "rust" though.

UK Cars come with Brembo brakes as standard, jap imports do not.

That's about as far as my knowledge goes which isn't much to say the least.

Perhaps someone else will be happy to add a few more pointers.

  7. i think it would've been better if they had.

Surely the seller is just having a laugh. I can't believe that anyone would think that it looks - in all seriousness - good. i just can't....  i can't! :scare:

    I think i need a whisky...

Its a valid point, but i still want to glance back when i lock up and leave or see something good sitting there as i come back, sneak a look out the window or open the garage.

Maybe right or wrongly, every aspect of a car should stimulate me, looks, sound and drive, its going to have to be a mind blowing good drive to compensate for the other two and whilst it may be good, its never going to be that good.

In reality is that handling going to stand head and shoulders above the rest on the road, again i doubt it and ive yet to see one at a track day. the more i think about it, the less i get it to be honest, you can get an awful lot of car for £35k.

    Very true.
