Now your talking Bob!
Loved my black 2.8i
Think the DNA of the Capri is in the Z
Thankfully the rear leaf spring suspension isn't !!
Ah, the old Capri
I had, 1.6, 2.0 and 2.8i, mate two doors up at teh rare 3.0L in british racing green
Fav job was blowing out the oil feed rails
Great engine and gearbox at the time
Bodywork was fecking awfull

All this talk of winter tyres
Pah, never used them on my 2.00L capri in the 80's, proper rear wheel squirming those days

I quite honestly average between 22 and 27 mpg
Thats local town roads and the odd A road, not flooring it anywhere either
How the feck do folk get 30mpg+, 6th gear 60mph on the motorway ????
Rob

The problem is, a lot of folk think they must buy from a dealership to get the correct part, in a lot of cases that is utter tosh, there are equivalent items out there just as good for half price and lower, I wouldn't dream of going to them for a nut/bolt/washer etc, robbing barstewards
It's the same with bikes

Hello and welcome
Only had my zed a month, love it
Rob

Its ok, I got what you meant about them overpricing WITH a discount and then far too easily coming down in price, I was just taking the opportunity to have a rant about 'price matching'
All sweet then
Rob
-
Price match always makes me laugh - I mean I am calling you because you are not my first choice (as I already have a quote from the companies I preferred and use) and I am looking for a better quote not a matched one. Not sure why they think matching prices with your preferred supplier would make you switch.
I think you have missunderstood me sir
The reason for the phone call to kwikfit (who I would not normally use) was on the basis of their advertisement, ie, they were offering a 25% discount when purchsing two tyres, now, you may well expect it but I dont, when you call a national "chain" up for a price and given a price 33% more than what you have been quoted by a small company, then, within minutes told they can match a price, to me that is some c**t trying to rip me off
And yes, if they had come back cheaper I may well have used them, wont be doing now

Need a couple of rears on the Z so just getting some prices from a couple of local places I generally use, been quoted £300 for 245/40/18 re05a, fitted and balanced so was ok with that
On the way home last night an advert came on the radio for kwikfit, saying 25% off sale with 2 tyres fitted, rang this morning, guy quoted me £400 fitted, which included the 25% off, I said forget it can get them £100 cheaper to which he replied "I can match that price"
Now, me being me told him in no uncertain way that he would't get my business if he knocked an extra 10% off as I believe in "best price first time, do not try and rip me off"
I hate that type of selling
Rob

Ah
That's what makes the Z a bit special, unlike the golf, sorry TT, that are "two a penny"
Rob

Yes. Utter rubbish.
You'd be much better off going either 45 all round or 40 all round, it's a miracle you're not having TCs issues tbh.
Hi
Havn,t had the car that long, I knew I'd be needing some rears, the fronts are fine but 40 profile, so, was gonna match the rears with 40 profile too
As far as traction, nipped out last night, roads were cold and greasy and yes I could feel the car moving a bit on the rear, now, whether that is down to the raods, profile or just lack of tread on the tyre, more than likely not having any heat in the tyre

Just picking up o this thread again
I need two new rears, at the moment have re50a all round with standard 245/45/18 on the back and 225/40/18 on the front, was gonna drop 40 profile on the rear, phoned a couple of places, one said they wouldn't recomend 40's all round and could only get them in a merc and audi fitment, ????, is this bollox
Cheers Rob

I found some fairy liquid or similar is in some warm water and applied with a clean unused sponge to get the grease and crap off first works well, just wipe it off with a clean dry cloth before it dries. Worked for me.
+1

Hello and welcome
I'm from the west midlands too

In my very younger days, it was Capri/Escort v Manta GTE.
Ooooh, the good old days, had the 1.6, 2.0L and 2.8i capri in my youger days, then got married, had kids and a cavilier
I think a lot of these audi/bmw drivers get up close to admire the silky lines of the Z

But you won't be able to do this on a bike Rob....Really, but wont be doing this in the car
Rob
God I'm convinced

In this country you can't really let your car go and see what she can really give you on the normal roads - so the only way you get to experience the full animal is to track her
Definitely worth doing
I'm afraid I'm going to add the caveat though - if you're going to take the car up closer to it's limits - 1) make sure it's in good order and properly serviced, with good rubber and 2) Be aware that her limits may be higher than yours
(Don't take that amiss - I'm only too aware of my own limitations being more a restriction than the car's)
But then - go do it and - enjoy !
One of your pics looks like oulton park ????
What kind of time would you be going around in the car (pesume full circuit)
Cheers Rob
dics and pads
in Servicing
Posted · Edited by zxrob
Just had the zed serviced, was advised that the dics and pads could do with changing (was shown the dics and yes they do need replacing)
What should I be expecting to pay for replacement for standard items
Cheers Rob
PS
forgot to add, front and rear
