Thanks for the input guys. I'm pretty sure the car still won't be ready again but we'll see...

Very long story short, a month or 28 days is the point where I can take it further and a repair is no longer an option. It was supposed to be ready last Fri but wasn't. I phoned earlier today and was told this weekend, just on the month mark..... I've been told the oil pump had gone causing excessive engine wear. Pump has been replaced and the cylinder heads were sent off to be reconditioned-this is what the bulk of waiting has been around, the company doing it for them only sent them back yesterday. Lets just hope I can pick my car up this weekend and it sounds brand new and I can put this behind me. Its been utterly draining....

Can you still request your money back if they say they'll repair it? I've lost confidence in them. The repair could take forever and the quality of the repair may not be good enough.

No idea, it wasn't on their forecourt. I assumed they just sold it at auction.

So send a letter rather than a phone call-is that the best way to go? Does it matter that I used my old car as part ex?

Cheers guys. Again, they didn't phone back today. Will chase tomorrow AGAIN. Then I think a call to CAB will be in order.... im fed up

Just found this on citizens advice: If you want your money back You may be able to ask for a full refund if:the fault is seriousit is within a reasonable time of the sale, andyou have stopped using the car.Sometimes a partial refund is more appropriate, for example if you have used the car for some time before you noticed the problem. (Within reasonable time of sale is defined as within 6 months of purchase)

Mmmm, if it was owned by one of the owners, they are on dodgy ground mate imho. This is exactly what happened with my mate recently, fortunately he had finance and they are responsible, they will then pursue the dealer. I would make a call to trading standards, get their advice, which i am sure will be in your favour and then if you are still not satisfied with what the garage says or does, let them know you have been in touch with trading standards, should do the trick Think I will be contacting them today. I doubt he'll phone me back, they've had it for a week and not even been able to give me any information at all. A car should be sold that is 'fit for purpose' mine is not so I think I might look into a full refund. Seems like I could get a hell of a lot more car for my money...

The car has been owned by one of the owners since it was imported in 2009 so they know the history- could be why they're dragging their feet? I didn't purchase it through finance with them.

So I just phoned the garage back. The response was that they are still looking at it and that he's waiting for the mechanic's report (which I will be asking for, obviously). He did mention a cylinder head was damaged to which I asked what could cause that, he couldn't tell, he just kept repeating that it's still being looked at.... I said to phone me back when they know whats wrong. I was told it could be a very lengthy process but that he'll phone me back tomorrow. I think benefit of the doubt just went out the window! I'm not very impressed....

Not at all, I agree but if they sort the car or refund me I'd be happy.

True, at the moment they've just been a bit poor with communication. . Not the best but it isn't the worst crime in the world. How they deal with the car is the main thing

I've recorded days and times and whats been said each time At the moment I'm quite willing to give them a chance. I'd be more than happy for them to repair the car but I just have a feeling it's not going to be straight forward. ...

Sorry, that didn't really answer your questions at all did it! I purchased the car end of July and I first contacted the garage last week. Contacted them just and this time spoke to the mechanic who said to phone back tomorrow

Well to begin with I don't really like complaining etc for the smaller stuff but when I noticed this noise I asked around on this forum for help. CS offered to look at it but couldn't fit me in for a while, all this I've explained to the garage already. I said I wanted a specialist's point of view which I think is fair enough, plus it is still in warranty.

No, the cars at the garage at the moment. Just phoned them up, it was diverted to the blokes house to which he said he didn't know what was going on because hes not in today or yesterday. Which is nice because he was the one who said he'd phone me yesterday. Got told to phone back at 9:30 when the phone shouldn't be diverted, odd been as they open at 8:30.....

Cheers guys As for the knocking there is a flurry of knocks when started from cold and then at around 2-2500 rpm it becomes noticable and kind of only happens under light acceleration e.g. in neutral tapping the gas pedal in this rev range produces a nasty kind of rolling knocking sound. And with regards to price, they offered £2000 more than any other garage had for my car at the time so in my opinion was worth it. I knew the price was over the top but decided to look at it anyway and was then surprised at the amount they offered but I guess thats the trick!

Will do, I'm going to keep on at the now. I gave them the chance to phone today but thats twice now they haven't got back in touch after they said they would....

I'd be more than happy with a fix but going on what CS said it could be a big job. Would I be within in my rights to expect this type of work without being charged? I always thought a warranty is an extension of my statutory rights? A car should be fit for purpose right?

End of July but have hardly used it as I had a problem at the start with it cutting out! (Was a dirty throttle body in the end) CS said its coming from the rear right side of the engine, possibly cams?

03 import, 53,000 miles. It was overpriced at £7000 but I got a really good part ex deal which made it reasonable and I did test drive it. (The noise can't be heard in the car). I noticed when I dropped it off how loud the main road was where the garage is when showing himthe noise so I could easily have missed it at time of purchase... Cheers

Hi guys, what do you make of this... A while ago I noticed a nasty knocking noise from the engine, anyway long story short CS were good enough to have a look for me and the conclusion was it would be very expensive to investigate and fix. They recommended I spoke to the garage I purchased it from. They agreed to look at it last Thursday, saying they would contact me Friday lunchtime. They never did so I phoned them up and asked what was going on. They said they were still looking at it and would get back to me today, they didn't. I'm going to phone them in the morning. My understanding of the problem is that I couldn't possibly have caused this kind of engine wear in the short time I've owned the car. My warranty is parts only, but I don't want them to try and charge me huge labour costs. What legal rights do I have here? I have a list as long as my arm with other faults I've noticed, overall I haven't enjoyed the car and I've barely used it. I'm not happy at all and at the moment I'm having to borrow my dads car to get around... Thanks in advance for any input
