  1. Just been doing a bit of research on these, I didn't realize they were so cheap now! Seems a bit of a bargain given the tuning potential etc.

I can't find anything via a google search regards to tuning companies or after market packages etc. What sort of figures do these run with full bolt ons? Intercooler, injectors, exhaust, induction etc? Where would one go to buy such things?

Actually quite interested in one of these myself, I have been to look at a couple of E92 M3's recently but this looks like a more sensible option potentially.

Found this on Facebook this morning. UK based

    Door sills with LED.

They offer various designs, and colours with moving or static stripes

90 gbp for sills and 70 for conversion

Oh they look nice! Wouldn't mind some for my ST.

  3. Turns out the previous owner had fitted and removed a short shift at some point but not removed it properly causing tension on the cables, my mechanic thinks one of the cables has snapped or bent somewhere out of sight. Cheap fix but had to wait for the part and trying to get a day off work to get it sorted.

Currently driving the car and using 2'nd gear to pull away, hope the clutch holds up.

  4. Don't want to pay for membership on the ST forum as it's pretty quiet over there. I have an issue and maybe someone here can help?

So driving along quite sedately yesterday and attempting to hit third gear and it wouldn't engage. Clutch is fine but the gear stick feels sponge like when attempting to select third, no click when entering gear. Shortly after I lost all upward gears IE - 1st, 3rd and 5th. All the downward gears are fine and work as normal - 2nd, 4th, 6th and reverse.

I fully expected it to be a cable issue, checked by the gear stick and all cables attached fine, likewise by the engine all the cables are in the brackets and connected fine.

Really stumped to be honest, unlikely to be a clutch issue, doesn't appear to be a cable issue but it's possible something is going wrong that's not visible. Obviously I'm concerned it could be the gearbox itself but surely if that was the case I'd be getting nasty noises, smells and a lot of drama.

Any ideas? I'm taking it to my tuner on Monday but was hopeful to fix it myself over the weekend, just not sure what else to check?

Got to say the Z looks very dated alongside that BMW....

  6. So it's that time again, I need some new tyres for a Focus ST MK2.

I normally go for middle range tyres as I've never been able to feel any considerable difference between an expensive set vs a cheaper set (sorry ekona), however saying as I'm driving a front wheel drive car with over 400IBFT I think it's wise to get a premium brand. I've heard lot's of talk about the pilot sports on here and I assume that's still a good choice for a hot hatch? There's loads of different versions available, what are commonly regarded as the best? Any advice welcome :)

FWIW I had a similar dilemma(?) recently, I was looking to sell the Fiesta ST (Great car) for something a little less practical and quicker... my list

A45 AMG (Yellow night edition thing)

    TTRS

    M3/4

All very capable cars and the interiors are incredible, the Audi interior on the newer models is great - the merc similar really... however and its a big one, for me they were just too soft, they dont really offer any driver involvement - the TTRS I had waited to drive for over a year and was dead excited, sounds/looks great but its a let down from a driver perspective (for me anyway), massively fast but feels over servo'd and 'safe'... probably supposed to, i knew I would get bored.

So I changed the options up and looked at the new cayman GTS (previously owned GT4 and a GTS) and a 370z (given Nissan want to give me 5k off one)

Porsche was a great car but not (imo) worth the 40k more than the Z they wanted.

Tbh I think most people would be happy with any of them, all cracking cars but it does fall down to personal taste :) good luck

I will be going to test drive a few cars before making any solid opinions but I suspect after reading this thread I may feel the same way. If I can persuade the Mrs to drive a rear wheel coupe it will open up way more options. I'd love a Cayman S but potential engine issues are a bit off putting.

  8. I've had hands on time in the previous FK2 Type R, it's a track ready car out the box.

I couldn't upset it enough to experience any torque steer, it grips and goes very well indeed. On the flip side the engine sounds awful, looks are questionable and price is a tad steep.

  9. Must say I completely agree with the above. Putting it into practice is another story tho.

I find with Turbo cars the desire for more power is always there, what makes things worse is attending dyno days/meets and seeing all of the awesome high powered cars etc. It can get very expensive very quickly. It also becomes a bit of an obsession.

  10. Would love an S2000 but again not suitable for the Mrs (doesn't like rear wheel drive), so it would defeat the point a little.

The idea behind it is for her to drive the car to work etc as she only works around the corner, I'd take a run about to work and enjoy the "fun" car on evenings and weekends. It's not essential but we currently feel it's a bit unnecessary having the two Hot hatches as 90% of our driving is too work and back, I'm currently paying about £100 a week in fuel due to recently increased journey to work which is contributing to the decision. We could chop both cars in, pay less out monthly and save in fuel costs so it seems like a decent idea.

Just need to find a car we both want enough to make it plausible.

Yep. TBF cars are becoming less fun anyway though so its hardly bucking a trend, everything is heavy with electric steering and stability control you cant turn off :(

    Rubbish isn't it?

Thats why I love my ST so much TBH, yes it's a front wheel drive but it's got a proper old school Turbo engine and has bags of character the modern cars seem to be lacking of.

  12. Other option in budget is an Evo X - kind of the opposite of the Audi in the sense that it ticks all the fun factor boxes but is on the poor end of the reliable and practice spectrum.

    ........... with Haldex

Have to be honest and say I havent driven a TT for a while but like others have said, great straightline weapon, reliable and practical and bargainous but not that much fun :)

The fun factor seems like the compromise here doesn't it?

It ticks all the other boxes and the Mrs will be happy which helps. She won't even drive the ST as it's "too much" for her

I am with Nissanman and Ekona, driven both variants of rs4 and a R8 V8 and found exactly the same, very quick but felt wooden and numb and not in the least exciting, almost like you were totally alienated from the experience, get a good drive in one first.

If that was my budget and marketplace i would be all over one of these, my sister had one and was awesome fun:

All lovely cars but the maintenance and potential bill costs put me off a little to be honest, the A45 is lovely mind.

  15. Damn! The Z got absolutely roasted :surrender:

Weather certainly not on it's side.

I'm going to get out and drive one this weekend, my main concern is that it will all be a bit PlayStation and very little involvement, I like a car with a bit theater, drama etc.

There's vids of tunned ttrs leaving r35 gtrs at the lights on a drag strip

TTRS has the 5pot, topgear do a video of a stock one keeping up with a GTR until silly speeds.

Crazy given the price of them.

Someone on here posted up a video of his tuned TTS on a drag strip, absolutely drove away from the 350z it was up against. It's not an RS but make no mistake this thing was really travelling! Surprised me how quick they are.

From the little research I've done I believe a few breathing mods, map and injectors and you're good for near 380BHP, add AWD and launch control and it becomes a serious car.

Quite appealing especially as good examples start from as low as 11k.
