  1. May have answered my 2nd question myself, just found this....

    Reverse Lead (Orange/White)

Use only when a back-up camera is connected. Connect to the plus side of the car’s reverse lamp. This lamp illuminates when the transmission is shifted into reverse ®.

With this lead properly wired, the video picture automatically switches to the back-up camera whenever the car is put into reverse ®.

Does this mean I have to run a wire from the reverse light "the boot" all the way to the head unit?

  2. Ok, so part way through installing my reverse camera and I was going to take it to the reverse break light for power but I would like it to have constant power for use when driving or not in reverse any ideas for a possible power source.

My 2nd question is about the reverse line, the alpine head unit says:

"By shifting to reverse ®, the rear pictures are output. This function is effective when the reverse wire is properly connected"

Does anyone know how I can wire the head unit to this ?

    Thanks

  3. Well, a seller of some nice nismo valve caps also had a stubby which I like so ordered both on ebay caps are very nice but the stubby was as much use as a chocolate teapot.. Would you believe not one single radio channel could get picked up with it.

Contacted the seller for a full refund and I await his reply, anyway... Where can I get a decent one that works? I know you guys will have plenty of suggestions :) I like the nismo ones :)

  4. H

    Good job!!

And loose the number plate holder

Or at least put the plate on square to the holder. Those screws holding the plate on are not the correct ones and are in the wrong position too :p .

    Pete

I will be... This is how I got it, I am just waiting for my paperwork from dvla and my personal plate is going on her so will be remounting that properly :)

  5. Cool thanks, I want to get a shipping cost for everything I need to save me making two orders also want Tom start the project as soon as I get my bits.

Was going to wait till I had everything but my reverse camera came today so gonna do that and then the new cubby in a few weeks/months. :)

  6. Some further help needed... Been in contact with conceptz about a nav cubby for my 54z, I wasn't sure which finisher I needed so asked them, but they advised that only the navigation controller will cover the gap/hole... I thought the small black plastic finisher would do the job.

Are these the two parts I need:

  7. Looks good mate, any shots from further away?

Will see what I can do :)

And loose the number plate holder

I like the idea of that, how many holes ami likely to have in my bumper when I take it off?

Fantastic, have to give it a shot. Where did to get the mesh and edging from?

Good old ebay, was £10 for the mesh, about £10 for 4 meters of the edge, got the badge on ebay also :)

    What he said ^^

Neater finish and sits further back so you get some depth to the bumper. Needs to be ripped off of you need towing though

    I had mine done

  10. Hi all

My rays "considering the age" are in very good condition very little blistering and only a small graze on one wheel however I want to get them painted in a smokey grey/black as I think they will look nicer against the gunmetal paint.

Anyway my question is... Does anyone know anywhere good in the north west around Warrington/liverpool area or around there?

    Thanks

  11. Thanks for the advice guys..

I was thinking of a switch for the video feed itself but as you have said I could just "somehow" connect both cameras to the head units single input and put the power for both units on a switch instead as I can easily find a 3 way rocker switch for the power.

My head unit "according to the manual" will do as you have suggested and switch to camera when u go in reverse however I have enabled the camera on it and it doesn't so I guess I need to play about with the wiring for the head unit. The unit also always you to view the camera at any time just by going into the camera mode which I kinda where my requirement comes from.

Sad to say however after years of driving a Primera and qashqai I am dependant on the rear view camera for parking. That said I have been getting on fine in the Z so far so I guess I could manage but hey it's a gadget I want to install ;) I am still driving a QQ now and going from something so high to a Z "very low" I am always wondering how much room I have up front "I am sure this will get better with time" anyway I like the idea of having a rear and front camera for when I park to get in the tight spaces.

To complicated things "I think" I guess I need to be able to run a two camera system, have both cameras selectable on a rocker switch "rear being default" but also for the camera to come on as you suggested when in reverse but I guess it would go off as soon as I take it out of reverse...

I checked and my headunit will do both ntsc and pal but only one at a time! Not order the 2nd camera yet so will make sure it's the same as the first :) in my head it sounded like a simple thing to do but now I am not too sure :) all help and advice welcome

  12. Hello all,

Looking for some pointers, also if this is a crazy idea that wont work feel free to let me know...

I have the Alpine iX-W407BT head unit and have ordered the following camera to install as my reverse camera (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-REAR-VIEW-REVERSE-CAMERA-FOR-NISSAN-350Z-Fairlady-/260823513124?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3cba4af824)

My head unit only allows one camera input however i also want to buy the following camera (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Reversing-Rear-View-Camera-Night-Vision-Backup-Parking-Sensor-Kit-Waterproof-/121138288028?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item1c3467959c )

and mount in the front bumper for a forward view camera.

I would then like to have a camera selector switch in the dash so when the head unit is in camera mode, I am able to toggle between the front and rear camera, the difficult bit or the bit i am struggling with is the switch, been struggling to find a video switch which would fit in the blank next to the heated seats switch or somewhere on the dash that doesn't look daft.

SO. Am i mad to want this and if not how best do you think i achieve it/what's the best switch to use?

    Thanks

  13. Was just nipping home in my Z and coming down the other side of the road was a white 350z with some black trim, think both going to fast for me to notice any further detail other than it was a young lad driving..

    Is it anyone from here?
