A tip for anyone about to follow it, do close the door before you do the window reset at the end. The guide does say this but it's not clear that closing the door is vital for the window to perform correctly (I expect the door-closed nipple is key to this).

I didn't, and the window would wind all the way down but would only go about a third of the way to the top. I had horrible thoughts of having to open everything up again and reseat the motor in the spooling mechanism, but I re-read the guide, closed the door and hey presto

I also do short journeys to work mostly and average 19 MPG. But reckon on 360 miles per tank, despite what the fuel gauge and trip computer say!

Lots of this. Mine's done the same for a few months now. Just bought a new motor for £185 from Clark Motorsport.

Well, I've just tried the window once more now it's cool, and guess what - it operated normally...

Oh well, I've ordered the replacement now. Let's see if that gives a permanent fix, although it may take a few weeks to be sure.

Hmmmm - that's interesting. I have a similar problem, though I haven't associated it with the weather. I got into the car at 3pm today (it having sat in the sun for several hours) and wound the window down without problem. But then it wouldn't come back up and I had to drive up the A12 with the window down, limiting my speed somewhat

I've put it down to a intermitently dodgy window motor and I've literally just ordered one from Clark Motorsport. The last time it played up was a couple of weeks ago and then it was cold and rainy, so I don't think mine is heat-related. Last time I frightened it into working by opening up the door and giving it some percussive persuasion. I hoped that would keep me going for a while but today was the last straw...

I've always wanted since I saw a gunmetal grey one at work in 2004. I really always wanted a Lotus Elise having grown up within earshot of the test track (JPS F1 days, mind you) but after having two Caterhams the impracticality put me off. So the 350Z is the ideal combination of good looks and comfort.

So I've decided it is the motor (as everyone has said in other threads). Oh well, you live and learn

I know this sound like previous posts, but my window works only intermittently. It's been merely a nuisance until today when it's raining and the car is in the car park at work

I've seen other threads that suggest even intermittent problems are likely to be the motor. My instinct is it's the switch.

But before I get a replacement switch can anyone offer any words of encouragement that it might indeed be the switch?

You shouldn't need to be brutal - both top and bottom brackets unscrew. You may find the top one is tight - I used an adjustable spanner which did the trick. Good luck.

I used a bog-standard adjustable spanner which did the trick - perhaps luckily the old bolt wasn't too tight. Good luck.

I'd second that. Good quality for around the same price I was given for a second hand set from a breakers yard!

Easy to fit, although if you're replacing the originals you'll need to remove the old brackets from the body. Simple enough but you may need an adjustable spanner to fit around the base of the ball joint, if you follow me.

Here's mine at the Bonneville Salt Flats, hence the 'red tint' to reduce glare.

I was made redundant after 16 years with a company and it's only natural to worry how you will cope and whether you're good enough in the world beyond. But you'll be pleasantly surprised how you can cope, and more than that - thrive. It won't be long before you find a good job and wonder why you didn't make a move sooner! Onward and upward

I had the same thing many years ago on a Capri, all the electrics working, but on the odd occasion the engine completely dead when I turned the key, no click or anything. I eventually traced it to a loose cable connection on the starter motor.

Thanks Pete - I mentioned this to a mechanic yesterday friend and he reckoned off the top of his head it was likely either the starter motor or ignition key barrel. Will definitely bear this in mind. Cheers.

Ah yes...

LIke the pessimistic fuel guage that shows zero miles DTE still with 20 litres left in the tank (got me worried the first few times), and the boot that slowly shuts on me. All part of the fun: still think its the best car I've ever had...

Many thanks for the replies. It's been OK for the three trips since this incident, so hopefully it's a one-off but I'll keep an eye on it.

The battery is less than a year old so probably not that and I'm pretty sure I was fully depressing the clutch, but I will be extra vigilent now

Failing that if it comes back I will ask my friendly local mechanic to check the things suggested... much appreciated.

I'm new to these forums - had my 350Z for a couple of months now and I'm delighted with it. One or idiosyncracies but I think that's part of the enjoymnet of ownership.

I got into it this evening though and the engine wouldn't even turn over.

Tried it 5 times with several seconds gap between. No problem with the battery - gauge showed 14V and everything in the cabin worked - radio, windows etc. No particular warning lights on the dash that I could see (they pretty much all stayed on with the key in the advanced position).

Was resigned to walking home but tried it one more time and it fired as normal!

Has anyone else had this? Seems rather odd. Hoping it's not a faulty ECU...
