  1. Reckon out of the garage lights they will look pretty good! Still tempted to refurb my Rays and give them a bit of a colour makeover.... love the dark bronze look on Gunmetal but doubt Rays would suit that colour. Photoshop later I think.....

Put some pics up soon! Looking forward to the end result.

  2. I was polishing mine on the main road through the village at the weekend, hilarious seeing some of the responses!

Young person in BMW or similar (old or new) - be seen to show no attention to Zed at all.

Older person in BMW or similar (old or new) - slow right down and observe the Zed

Chavvy hatchback - glance, then floor it past

Anyone in a far superior car (i.e the pearlescent white Gallardo that drove past- never see anything this exotic locally!) - give a knowing smile, floor it, double clutch for the corner and speed off to give a nice demonstration for you whilst grinning :D

Old men seem to quite appreciate it too, or more appreciate a younger person taking pride in a car I think!

  3. It is a very satisfying job and well worth doing, always done it to previous cars before attacking with other products. it took me less time to do the clay barring than it did the polishing- probably an hour? But you really can tell the difference. 10 seconds on one spot left it feeling like glass in comparison to the surrounding areas. The Zed is quite a nice car to spend time doing too, quite small and the panels are all nice shapes. makes the time pass a bit quicker :)

  4. Hello

With the dry weather today I had enough time to wash, clay, polish and wax the new Zed. Spent a good 5 hours on it. Typical the sun vanished as I grabbed the camera, but took what I hope are a few decent ones anyway!

Overall I'm quite pleased with the condition of the bodywork for an 8 year old car! One tiny parking ding right on the door panel crease but I hadn't noticed it until today. No major swirl marks, just a few scratches on the front bumper passenger side but that'll be getting resprayed soon to rectify this (I'm picky!) along with the bonnet which has a few stonechips at the bottom.

Got lots of horn pips and thumbs up from passers by, lots of double takes too- seems a young lady polishing a nice car is a rarity :D

Found it tricky to get the shine on camera with Gunmetal paint. My last car was black and seemed much easier to get a deeper gloss, on an older car too. Maybe attack with a machine polisher next time!

Here's the stuff I used if anybody is interested:

Washed with Muc Off Ubershine shampoo

    Dried with large microfibre towel

Claybarred with boggo Turtlewax clay kit

    Polished with Autoglym Super Resin

    Waxed with Dodo Juice Supernatural

Headlights (and exhaust tips roughly done) polished with Autoglym metal polish

    And the pics!

  5. Haha, thanks! And I'm pretty sure it was the stem that did the trick. I've had wide bars for a long time too, so wasn't that. Tried different shock pressures and sag, tyre pressures, some made a slight difference but then soon as I changed the stem I felt so much better. Think my weight was too far forward and felt weird over the bike so was leaning back a bit to compensate.... this was of course weighting the front a lot less... probably leading to the skitteriness. Those SB66s are known for being a bit like that anyway.

But yeah.... I had a MASSIVE off on some washed out sand that had washed to the bottom of a bridleway with all that rain we had before Xmas. Face landed first in a XC lid and it scraped about 5 metres down the bridleway on gravely stuff. Lucky I didn't fracture any bone but I've some lovely little scars from it. Put me off the bike completely until I got the short stem put on!

Hoping to take it to Morzine this year. Went last year and was seriously underbiked.... took a 7 year old 130mm travel Mongoose Teocali XC bike down the black and red DH runs at the same chat most were doing on DH rigs.... it survived! Not sure how I did mind. Hopefully be a bit better equipped this year

  6. Put £80 of Shell V-power in, not paying motorway service station prices ever again unless in emergency! :scare: Think I got just under 50 litres. Guess thats not TOO bad!

Fingers crossed we can work that switch back in, will let you know what happens. Locktite is a good idea thanks

  7. Hello!

Always loved detailing my cars and on Saturday I'm gonna set to work on my Zed for the first time.

Got myself a panel pot of Supernatural this time and a couple of those red foam finger applicator things.

Normally I use Simoniz hard wax in a tin, with a microfibre to both apply and buff out.

Anyone used these foam finger pads before and do you reckon its best to use them to apply AND buff off, or simply just apply then use a microfibre to remove?

    Thanks

    Louisa

  8. You will lose some skin of the knuckles but it is possible to get your hand behind the facia and push the button back through. Only takes a couple of mins

Cheers mike- is this from below? As in, stick your arm up through the underside of the dash?

Cars at home today and can't for the life of me picture what that area looks like properly!

    Thanks a lot
