  1. I am a keen cyclist myself and I think that there should be an initial tax included in the purchase of a brand new bike. I think more should be done to encourage cyclists, such as more cycle tracks, on and off the road as some of the roads I have to cycle on to get to work are horrendous both in terms of traffic and the state of the road. However saying that a small amount of tax on the sale of every bike isnt going to be financially big enough to make a difference to our roads.

  2. If I were to buy another one it would have to be white!

Above car looks like good value. No mention of previous service history apart from the last service so might be worth checking. However still looks like a great deal.

  3. hmmm, will try and get up on a ramp to see if i can identify whether its the compression arm bush, the ball joint, or maybe even the front lower arm bush :headhurt:

It usually very difficult to establish any sort of wear or movement in the joints / bushes as you can not re create the weight of the car going over a bump on a ramp.

  4. Compression arm bushes are a common fault. I had the knock on uneven ground and replaced the bushes with the super pro kit. However it hasn't cured the problem. After reading the forums it sounds like it could be the ball joint bush on the compression arm. This part isn't available to change on its own so a whole new arm may be needed.

  5. Some cyclists i see (usually the road racing types) have exceptionally bright lights, on their head, flashing away like police strobe lights which can be extremely dazzling and distracting for car drivers. I seem to recall that its actually illegal to have flashing lights on a cycle and that they should be mounted at no more than a certain height from the ground, so it might be worth checking.

I fall into this category. In my opinion I would rather be lit up like a flashing christmas tree and be seen. I have plenty of 'small lights' that enable cars to see me but I haven't got a light that allows me to see the road when in complete darkness.

Thanks for suggestions so far, certainly some interesting options to consider.

  6. I recently had mine serviced. Prior to the service everytime I booted it I got an oily/ rubbery smell for a few seconds afterwards. I also had a set of new rear tyres fitted so my oily smell was cured by either one of the above.

  7. Make sure there is nothing under the seat. I kept resetting my Airbag light and after varying amounts of time it would come back on. Turned out to be a magazine that kept setting it off, but I have also read it can be caused by a bottle rolling around.

  8. So this morning was the first morning of the year I thought I could have done with some lights on when cycling to work. With the nights soon drawing in I think it is time to get myself equipped with a decent set of lights.

Has anybody got any they can recommend. I need a light that doesn't just get me seen by cars but also lights up my path as most of the riding is done along unlit country roads and I need to be able to see the potholes.

Budget is around £100 for the front. I have been looking at the Hope range, has anyone got any experience?

  9. Fuel comsumption depends on how you drive it and for how long. I used to drive to work (about 10miles) and if I didnt let her warm up for 5 minutes before setting off in the morning I was getting awful fuel economy - less than 15MPG. Once you start doing long journeys and its fully up to temperature you can expect to get more reasonable figures. I have since started cycling to work and save myself £40 on work fuel
