  1. Sadly ours has gone in January, weve had two, a 2005 Gunmetal and a 2007 Midnight Blue, totted up 65k miles over 7 years on those two.

It became our third car when I bought my M5 and it was costing too much to keep in fine fettle for only doing 2-3k/year. Something ridiculous like £1.90/mile in the last 12 months.

Miss the character of the old girl though, might be back one day:

As much as that would be handy, I’ll actually be over in Bromsgrove tomorrow afternoon/evening for a mates birthday drinks. But still don’t mind travelling to you over the weekend to collect it if that works?

No worries, thought I could save you a trip :). It will have to be Sunday as I’m busy on Saturday?

I’ll take the tonneau cover/divider if possible please? Can collect over the weekend if you’re free as I’m only down the road in Coventry?

I will actually be in Coventry some time tomorrow prob evening - do you want me to drop it to you?

  4. Hi everyone,

With our Zed gone I have some bits here that might be of use to someone.

    1) A full set of Winter Wheels £250 collected from Bedford (could arrange collection from Leicester area but will be a few weeks before I could collect). - sold to ZedBlue

18" Touring alloys, the alloys themselves are not in good condition, kerbed and quite corroded - they need a refurb - I have intended to get this done this year but the car's gone so...

Fronts have got Michelin Alpin PA4s with approx. 5-6mm tread. The rears have got an essentially brand new pair of Michelin Alpin 5's on them. These were fitted spring this year and I drove from Leicester to Bedford before storing them so  they have done about 50 miles only -  you can see the little rubber spikes haven't even worn off and the fitting sealant stuff is still visible!

You also get some nice Zed caps

We were using our Zed as a daily and if you need to keep it going over winter these will make a massive difference in the cold and wet and are night and day in the snow.

(Mods these don't all have the forum name on them but you can tell from the corrosion and kerbing patterns they are all the same wheels :))

    2) Stubby Aerial £5 collected, £7.5 delivered - slow post - sold to Luigi350z

Does what it says on the tin its a stubby!

    3) Home made tonneaux with "Z" emblem £10 collected from Leicester - sold to Shunter8

This was made by myself after Ian (I think) sent me a copy of the template he had been using to make them. Nice addition to the car, just slots in and gives a bit of privacy to what might be stored behind it

(sorry poor light doesn't show the "Z" up well.

    4) Official Bluetooth module £30 collected £33 delivered - slow post - sold to satiriasis

This was out of the car for over a year but ive no reason to think its not working- it worked fine when it was in and only came out as we upgraded to a carplay system

I also drove one across Germany a couple of years back, doing 2800km in 6 days including a sustained 15 minutes without dropping under 150

From what Ive read the Hyundai n30, Megane and Pug 308 Gti are more driver focused but they also depreciate quicker. If you do go for the Golf the interior upgrade and Dynaudio are worthy, we also got pearl paint and different alloys as there are *quite a few* around, its good to be different ;)

Specced dynaudio and DCC but not much else, it’s well equipped to start with

I can highly recommend the Golf as a "do everything" car - worked as daily commute for the missus, just been on a 7 day holiday with baby and two dogs, up for trying get a trackday in before Christmas in it now  and seeing > 40 mpg too (although not with the roofbox on)

    Good stuff this all reassuring!

Feel your pain... just put mine up for sale today as well.   In my case it was having 3 kids that killed it... been using it as my daily while the wife ferrys the sprogs around in the smax up until now. Trouble is, now they're getting older, they all need to be in different places at different times and having more than 1 spare seat has become important.

Just brought an absolute S**Tbox of a Renault Megane for 300 quid to drive while I sell the 350... It's gold, with a beige interior.  It's the motoring equivalent of how old men dress...

What to replace the 350z  with though?   I need 5 seats, Fast, reliable and semi-decent on fuel (but not a diesel as I do 16 miles a day and that'll kill the DPF)  - Basically, it's a Golf GTI or a Focus ST isnt it!

Civic type R, if you can get over the looks, which we couldn't! wonderful to drive though

  8. Yeah its Midnight blue, great colour, difficult to tell in yesterdays overcast greyness!

Certainly are, the wife has just ordered at Golf R to give her a bit of the performance back day to day which is exciting - but not the same sort of experience as the Zed.

  9. Well with much regret the wife and I have sold our Zed today :(.

We are sad to see it go after having one for 8 years now, but it has not been seeing a lot of use as our third car and the cost of keeping it tip top the way we want it means its not sensible to carry on running if for so little use. Hopefully someone who will use and enjoy it will pick it up and it will make them as happy as it has made us.

Wanted to say thanks to everyone here, the forum has been a great place and a source of valuable information. Particular thanks to Mitz and Andy at Cougar Store for looking after the Zed so well for so long.

  10. I am sure that the issue raised is related to the P-zeros but I don't think entirely to do with mixing the tyres. Its because the P-zeros are rubbish and in no way similar to the MPSS. I have much less of an issue with mixing tyres front to back than others here seem to - I wouldn't mix on the same axel but so long as you have something similar I don't think front to back is a problem. I recently replaced our rear MPSS with MPS4 and have had no problems what so ever with stability with MPSS on the front - the car is rock solid.

Same deal with the winter set going from Pilot Alpin 4 - 5 on the rear - no problems at all. The idea that you need to replace good quality tyres when they are only half worn on the front is silly - just stick with the same brand and grade and I think you will be fine (just my experience obviously don't have the same knowledge on these things as Dan :) ).

  11. Apparently me and the Admiral lady managed to totally send ourselves round the houses unnecessarily - ive sorted this with them as its not being lowered its just <5cm - which makes perfect sense, I don't know why we ended up thinking it was anything else -wow - must be because im ill and hardly eaten in 4 days

Why not just call them up, you should have an answer in literally the time it takes to make the call? Or have you already done that and they didnt know?

Called them already - they didn't know off the top of their heads and are going to find out :S

  13. Hi,

I am having a set of BC Racing BR coilovers fitted to the Zed but the insurance are asking me what the potential for lowering of the set up is (even though im not lowering it) - up to 5cm or 5-12.5cm. Now I am not entirely sure and waiting for manufacturer to get back to me - does anyone happen to know?

    Thanks

    Ed

  14. Well I’ve worked out what the problem is as it got worse when I tried to pull the car out the drive. The heatshield above the back box has corroded off its bolts and is rattling around.

I don’t know how to pull it out though and I’m 60 miles from home!
