  1. ok thanks, any suggestion welcome, it's all getting written down on a "things to check" in order of difficulty so I can hopefully quickly rule out some things. veeg33 yes, the Zed bug is going very stong, everytime one drives past my heart sinks in to sadness! I've been looking at a new 370z but I can't afford the repayments
  2. Cheers, it sound like promising, I'm hoping it will be something along those physical/mechanical lines and not some expensive dealer only "black box" £££££ type fix I'm not able to access the car, its salvage, sold as seen on the info provided from a company I trust. Whoever they are selling it for has paid for additional info, background checks, engine starts etc. it comes with both keys and other stuff, it low mileage, it looks good bar the warning lights. Another other opinions or advice would be great. I'm really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of another Zed!
  3. Hi folks, I'm looking at buying another 350z after my first one passed away (via a ditch, hedge, fence and field... ) I was just wondering as I'm seeing photos only of a UK 350z and the "ESP off" light is illuminated in the rev counter (perhaps the buttons been pressed?), as is the orange car with 2 S shaped skids (normal when ESP is off if I recall correctly?) as are the MIL, ABS and (!) light (hand brake on if I recall) I just wondered if anyone else had these lights on when stationary with the engine running - or perhaps when they've hit the ESP off button? The revs are just over 750rpm so I assume its warmed up and been running a short while. I'm thinking its not normal, and not knowing how the ESP or ABS work, but assuming they use sensor rings on the wheels/hubs - I'm thinking a sensor has packed up on the rear and thus the ESP nor the ABS is working? Any feedback or anything would be greatly appreciated - perhaps these lights are just normal at stand still but I don't remember seeing them and would have thought they'd go out when the engine was started. Keep it rubber side down folks
  4. I don't remember happy faces and thumbs up last time I tried to shove someone in the boot - might have been the zip tie cuffs & duck tape over their mouth.......... inside they were just as enthusiastic I'm sure
  5. so my L shaped 8'x6' bench, no trouble - biggest piece was the 600x1690 worktop, and the "L" worktop at 450x1705 - 6 1 meter long legs made from 150mmx50mm timber (aka 6x2's) and some bigger lengths the size of the worktops Rags and cushons on the dash and seats to stop marks/dents - it's marine ply so a smoot finsih - no scratches/splinters etc. pictures speak a thousand words here..... but I'm pleased with that
  6. Apart from the "2 golf bags" instructions on the boot lid - What's the biggest/longest what ever - "thing" you've squeezed into your Zed - I once carried about 3-5 stackable plastic boxes on the passenger seat which where about 600mm long and 400 wide and about 5-600mm deep once stacked (I'll get some dimensions when im back in the UK) - I was pretty happy with this achievement I'm asking as I've designed a new bench for my workshop and need to collect 2x 1.8m lengths and 2x 1.4m lengths of 6X2 timber along with 5 1m legs and various cross bars - I think I can manage the 1.4's but the 1.8's might have to stick out the boot..... - Excludes fat chicks...... and any other large non-solid objects - boot-doors and windows will be assumed shut unless otherwise stated
  7. For the WHOLE thing (not genuine but for the price....) ie. for the plastic shroud, BOTH fan's/motor's etc in the states it's $110 DELIVERED that's £63.68 to the Americans + about £75 on top if you want UK shipping In the UK dealers want £700 - some will supply JUST the motor's for half that You can upgrade your rad to a MIZU - thicker core (twin core design), higher fin density + addition fan shroud incl. fan's for about £300-500 (depending on where in the world you are) .....so OEM or UPGRADE may be the question. -valid excuse to upgrade, easily justified to the other 1/2..... Woo-hoo I wonder what upgrades ZMANALEX has to offer........
  8. For the benefit of people reading this and thinking "auto active test??" (CLOSE THE BONNET!, rad caps etc, etc,! - as if your ready to drive away) "Auto Active Test AKS0012J DESCRIPTION In auto active test mode, operation inspection can be performed when IPDM E/R sends a drive signal to the following systems: Rear window defogger Front wipers Tail and parking lamps Headlamps (Hi, Lo) A/C compressor (magnetic clutch) Cooling fan OPERATION PROCEDURE 1. Close hood, front door RH and lift wiper arms away from windshield (to prevent glass damage by wiper operation). NOTE: When auto active test is performed with hood opened, sprinkle water on windshield beforehand. 2. Turn ignition switch OFF. 3. Turn ignition switch ON and, within 20 seconds, press front door switch LH 10 times. Then turn ignition switch OFF. 4. Turn ignition switch ON within 10 seconds after ignition switch OFF. 5. When auto active test mode is actuated, horn chirps once. 6. After a series of operations is repeated three times, auto active test is completed. NOTE: When auto active test mode has to be cancelled halfway, turn ignition switch OFF. CAUTION: Be sure to inspect BL-70, "Door Switch Check" when the auto active test cannot be performed. INSPECTION IN AUTO ACTIVE TEST MODE When auto active test mode is actuated, the following seven steps are repeated three times. NOTE: It will take ten seconds from test 3 to 4. SKIA3142E" The other quick way to test is simply starting your car (cold or hot) and regardless of temperature the fans should come on at least LOW speed when ever the A/C is up to speed/temperature I have found that letter from the US - nissan extended the warranty from 3 years to 7 years (80,000 mile limit) on 04-07 models as the fans are known to be dodgy and fail. Cheaper option, some suggest you (or an electric motor specialist) can pop open the (sealed) units and replace various bits n bobs and fix em. Certainly cheaper than the £700 a pair (just the motor, not the fan) quote I saw - check the UK warranty/recall situation first - if they did it in the states, why not do it here, it's a fault and your rights are your rights car dealers are no exception and legally there is no limit to the length of care a reseller must give, it is decided by the courts based on the value of the item in question - so car's are a no brainer + the US statement admitting faulty motor's (I hear no win, no fee solicitors alarm bells ringing)
  9. (Reviving an old thread for the benefit of others to highlight a recall:) Nissan extended the warranty from 3 years, to 7 years (80,000 miles) on the radiator fans on some years. UNSURE if this only applies in the states or globally? Quote from Nissan regarding radiator fans recall (not sure if the spelling mistakes are real - sourced from the net) Dear Nissan Owner: Nissan is committed to providing the highest levels of product quality and customer satisfaction. We believe that our current and future success depends on your continued satisfaction with Nissan. With that in mind, we want to bring to your attention important information regarding your Nissan. On some 2004-2007 350Z's, the radiator fan motor may become in-operable, which may cause engine collant temperature to rise. In this case the engine protection logic will limit the vehicle speed to prevent any dmage to the engine. Because this issue only affects a limited number of vehicles, the vast majority of owners should never experience this issue. However, to assure your continued satisfaction with your vehicle, Nissan has decided to extend its New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage of your vehicle's Radiator Fan Motor from its original duration of 36 months/36,000 miles to 84 months/80,000 miles (whichever comes first). This warrany extension applies only to the Radiator Fan Motor. Coverage of other vehicle components will remain unchanged, and all other terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of Nissan's New Vehicle Limited Warranty continue to apply. Please consult your warranty information booklet for details. If you have previous paid to have your Radiator Fan Motor replaced due to a failure, you may be eligible for reimbursement of the expense for parts and labor that you incurred. If you have any additional questions, please contact the National Consumer Affairs Department, Nissan North America, Inc., P.O. Box 685003, Franklin, TN 37068-5003. The toll free number is 1-800-NISSAN1 (1-800-647-7261)Thank you for the purchase or lease of a Nissan vehicle. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. My 2004 (54) reg model has 2 faulty fans at just 30k - and it's a gnat's nut out of warranty - I must be one of the first to run out of time?......... I will follow above advice after checking loom as per the service manual (free from the US Nissan site I believe) and our forum's "known issues" section. Hopefully others will be more lucky. Apologies if im repeating others/other threads (this is just the first 350z-uk one I found via google so might be the first for others)
  10. I would just like to add to this for the benefit of other searching the web and stumbling in to this old thread... Never confuse dot 5, with dot 5.1 - dot 5.1 belongs to the same family as dot3&4 and they're pretty much totally interchangeable DOT 5 IS NOT GOOD don't ever use it unless your absolutely sure you know that it's right. DOT 5.1 is aka SuperDOT4! it is your regular mix of glycols and glycol ethers (as in DOT3) but has more chemically complicated (or just MORE) additions of borate esters which is what seperates DOT 3 and DOT 4. I change clutch/brake fluid at the same time as my oil, and although I don't notice them degrading, they always feel very noticeably more firm, sharp and full after fresh fluid. I'm doing the brake fluid on the Zed I've just recently bought in the near future, I changed the oil when I got it just as a precaution but after this hot French weather today (30-32°C) and 10kms of stop start traffic, the slack in my pedal got greater and greater till I was literally not getting any action till the pedal was an inch and half off the deck! I checked the clutch fluid and its actually slightly BROWN in the bottom of the res. - this will take a few weeks to flush. Brake fluid looks clean as a whistle but what the hey it's cheap enough. DOT 5.1 for me, not that I even need it - DOT 3 would do for me I'm sure. As some of you will already know, new Silicone Ester based fluids have been developed (by Castrol) that ARE miscible with dot3/4 (so I'm told, dont take my word for it!) They have a minimum dry boiling point of 310°C as opposed to 260°C of DOT5 & DOT5.1, and 230°C of DOT4, 205°C of DOT3. Read in to Castrol SRF if you've not heard of it and are really looking for an edge (it's patented so you won't find it else where, and since they developed it and its new, would you trust anyone else?) You'd have to check all the compatibility and read all the bumpff I've never (after 8 years of racing) run in to any issues with regularly changed dot 4 (twice a season). Anyone here know anything of this fancy SRF?
  11. I'm guessing it's got decat pipes, from the mid box toasted the engine, it's splits in to 2 and goes up to (what i think are) the headers with a straight piece of pipe with a Lambda sensor either side (presumably where the CAT's should be?) Leodspider you have PM
  12. Help needed, Looking to Borrow/Buy a pair of CAT's for my MOT in a few weeks(preferably borrow, not sure why anyone would have spares to sell anywhere.....) I just got my Z on tuesday, and was told it had a CAT back system, but it seems after a quick inspection on the ramps this isn't the case, (if im right in thinking when it was up on the ramps it would be impossible not to notice them!) i followed the pipes up with a torch and could see some heat shroud up at the top but i think its just the headers I would more than willing to leave a deposit for a loaned pair to ensure a safe return! Thanks peeps!
  13. Just picked up my 2004 Sunset Zed last night, she's looks and sounds amazing, immaculate condition and covered less than 33,000 miles A few annoying bits to investigate - a squeaky/screech or rattle as I roll off the throttle at low revs (sub 2250rpm - am I revving to low?? And a the Jap Nav opened (reluctantly) and then Almost closed, it's now a half inch from closing and jammed solid New aux. belts, oil and filter this weekend and a through inspection on the ramps I'm over the *chuffin* moon, it's beautiful! I've wanted one for a decade
  14. Good thread, I'm picking up my Zed tomorrow Whatcar.com have done a fuel test and on the "premium" fuels, They where about 0.1% better on fuel consumption except one - Sainsburys 97 Premium delivered 0.5% increase AND it's my local garage, AND it's my cheapest local with premium fuel within 30 miles. (3.2 pence per litre more that the cheapest 95) Can't wait till tomorrow - full stainless rattle of 300bhp coming to town near me
