a quick read for those interested in whether or not to go with true rear coilovers
http://my350z.com/forum/brakes-and-suspension/356556-true-coilover-rear-damper-or-not.html
one thing ive learnt, Americans have wayyyy too much time on their hands! I barely have time to drive my car as it is, let alone talk about whether its safe to drive my car or not...
I think for the amount i use my car and for the type of use i use it for, im happy with the true coilovers. I now have a dedicated track car to abuse, rather than the nissan, so the 350 spends its days looking pretty and taking me around town once a week. The coilovers are purely a visual mod on this car and once the 19x10s are fitted next month, i will be driving even slower as i dont think these wheels were designed for performance
thanks for all the input though, i will keep an eye on the rear suspension and update on performance/damage etc...so il be the test dummy for the true or not setup

its not just a law thing....................it affects your insurance which is why I didn't pursue it with mine.
if you have a accident ie pull out from a junction and have a bike t-bone you, then you will be held at fault (rightly) and the insurance won't pay as the tints will be deemed a factor
I remember an older member getting stopped by the police & they tested the factory tint on the front windows of a Z & it was darker than the legal limit.
I've had tints on cars before & never had any issues with the police
yeah ive heard of this before too...BMW have been knocking out factory tint that is "illiegal" on most of their range for years. My 350 is 3 years old so will be pulling the factory card if i get stopped.

cheers guys, il have a read of the link above.
Personally, i think a company the size of D2 would never globally sell anything for a car that doesnt come with any warning or advice on possisble damage their product will cause if fitted without XYZ...
If any damage did come from fitting their suspension, they would be the first people i would call to pay my repair bill and can only assume they couldnt object as per the above? (which leads me to believe the true coilovers will be fine as they are)
On another note, does anyone have any reccomendations for a good coilover set up company? i want the height/tracking/dampning etc. adjusted propperly by someone that has all the gear. im in the epsom, surrey area but can travel if its not too far...

I'm loving those tints - looks fantastic. Really does look stunning on a black car.
Out of interest, what would happen if the law caught you? Would you just be told to remove it or do you get a penalty?
I'd love to get mine done but I'm risking getting unwanted attention as it is with a noisy exhaust.
S.
ive never heard of any penalty for tints before in my years as a hardcore street racer ...ive heard you may be asked to peel off the tint there and then but again ive never known of anyone made to do this. Im not aware of anyone getting collarred for tints at all to be honest, the police tend to target the limo tinted saxo's and corsa's at car meets as opposed to our sort of car i would imagine.
My 'light' tints dont restrict any visibility at all in my opinion, you can only really tell from the outside they have any tint on them

Do the later Z's have a different rear suspension setup? As they look like true coilovers i.e. do away with the separate oem spring that is located under the car. (wish I could have done that but the reinforcement you need on the wheel arch is too much hassle)
Looks nice and will suit big wheels
Nope the later cars aren't any different mate.
You are correct those are true coilovers. I'm sure there was some reports of distortion with true coilovers without reinforcements
What sort of reinforcements need to be done? They seem to be performing well at the moment, bit concerned I should look at the above now though...

Allignment will need doing regardless of which wheels you go for.
When you drop the car that much and are banging around underneath, the alignment goes all to hell.
yeah i thought as much!
If i get my alignment set up for the Rays, then add spacers and change the wheels, will the alignment need doing again? This is my issue as i want to use both sets of wheels every now and again...
-
ya need spacers now
got a new set of H&R 25mm spacers at home ready to go on with the new wheels
-
Looks ace mate but i want you number plate thats ace
cheers looks better with a pin on the 6 but the police dont seem to approve
-
i think the little kerb its on makes it look a tiny bit lower than it is but im relatively happy with the height. the ride is surprisingly comfortable too im happy to report
-
these are a light tint on the front and medium on the rears. To be honest you really cant notice any difference when inside. its only when the sun goes down and from the right angle they look dark.
It was £220 for a full set on the 350 but after a bit of negotiation and a group booking, i paid £140 all in for mine

picked up a set of D2 coil overs and fitted them to my 350 last night. I was surprised how easy it was to fit them all, definitely been more tricky on all my other cars!
pics below
Before -
fitting pics...
it got dark by the time i finished last night so here are a couple of pics from this morning...
haven't had a chance to play around with the height yet, i think the rear is a bit too low so may raise it a touch...
im fitting some 19s with stretched tyres soon so unsure whether to get the wheel alignment set up now on these wheels or just wait til the new wheels are fitted? Any thoughts? Il be re-fitting the Rays for track use so want to have the suspension suitable for both sets of wheels as i don't want to be adjusting all the suspension and alignment for every track day i do...
-
got them done and here they are
i went for medium on the rear and light on the front -
-
right so i got the windows tinted yesterday
before the tints...
after the tints - i went for medium at the back and light on the front two windows
-
I think im decided on black chrome. Everything else on the car is black but i didnt want to just gloss black them. They should really pop when the sun catches them and look glossy black in the dark.
-
thats true, ive never used mine
ive heard back from the guy on a group buy and if we order more than 5 units, he will give us a 5-6% discount. Not the best but better than nothing as he never gives discounts!
ive got full price lists for the pre facelift and the facelift Zeds now, they are both within the conversation above...I think about 5 at least are interested in these so if people can maybe PM me with the DLR's or rear indicators/reverse set up and the year of your car (or just the part number would be easiest) i can confirm a discounted price per person and work out the delivery charge. It's as simple as the amount of LED's you want and wether you want orange, clear or black lenses. Price goes up as the LED's do...
-
they are indeed
-
yeah no tint at all is allowed on the front windows.
The company im going to will still tint them, however they ask you to sign a waiver to say you are aware its not road legal. I was thinking about keeping the same shade all round, maybe just a light or medium...
-
booked the 350 in for some window tints this thursday as black on black seems to be my theme at the moment...
any thoughts on tints on a black 350z? Reccomendations on which shade will look the best? I want it noticeable but not silly dark which will cause me to get pulled by the rozzers and made to peel it off as i pull out the tinting shop...
-
new wheels and stretched tyres stripped and ready to be sent off to BJV engineering for a dip
-
i would also be up for a group buy on these.
just reading through the thread, do US spec 350Z's have fog lights?
i did think this may be why we cant see a fog. imports get the dodgy bolt on fogs on the rear bumpers when t hey come to the UK so maybe its not a requirement in the states...
-
no fogs are built in too
I can't find a vid of these? how much are they?
hmm i cant find this either now, thought i saw a fog built in. im sure there will be as they wont sell very well otherwise...
-
i might give a DIY a chance, just need to know where to wire them into, any ideas? i cant find a car wiring diagram
i would just wire them into the ingition live so they come on when you turn the key. would be simple enough to do without a diagram if you did it that way.

cheers
coilover and wheel project pics to follow soon

i think i'd be interested in 'ABW10x2' for my 03 Zed:
$150 for these, as per dave1221's price list for pre-06 on the p1
