  1. Anyone know somewhere I can get decent led bulbs from? Ultraleds used to do them but there stopped that range now

Anything like ebay is 12v rated and blow because the z spikes to 14.1v....

Specifically I'm after tail lights (ie the bulb that's on when your front lights are on) and the number plate ones.

    Thanks!

  2. Ps another weird engine noise/ rattle is the clutch release bearing which you'll hear in neutral and stops / starts with clutch in/out, also common and normal although can be replaced at minimal cost to reduce/ eliminate noise.

  3. Looks very smart. I used to have A 306 rallye which I loved but after a few changes, the 350z is the best I've found since the pug. You'll warm to the rear wheel/ LSD/ balanced set up in no time. Enjoy! Oh and as it seems you're a perfectionist, finish up with a hunter system laser wheel alignment- transforms the car handling wise when it's set up as it should be and great for what it costs.

  4. Get some of the 350z's at brands harch sideways for one of their full day drift courses, then take the mrs out and ask her if that's driver focused enough?!

What does she mean by driver focused? Porsche (boxster S) might be an option but having had one in the family I don't like them at all. There's no way I'd say the z4 or S2000 were more driver focused, just different. The handling of the z4 is widely criticised. Early S2 Elise's would be in that price range and are worth a look for ultimate driver involvement, but be prepared for the repair bills.

  5. It is something I think we all worry about from time to time. It seems odd to have bought the car, knowing it was cheap and THEN worry.

It seems like a good bargain. Get it checked out by a specialist (not an average garage). These cars are very mechanical and heavy on their controls- knocks, noises and rattles do occur and most have straightforward reasons behind them. My advice is to search for any issues on here/ google/ YouTube (for noises ESP).

Just relax and enjoy the car, I had an exige, main dealer, 2 years old, 15k on it and it practically fell apart! Any car can do that, don't panic ;) just go down to your local garage- falcon might be near you? Even an entire engine is bought for £1k in the classifieds here so you can't go far wrong even if te very worst happens!

  6. Completely and utterly bonkers, you buy a car newer, as I'm assuming owners see it as being more reliable than a cheaper, older car. Then you've also got to consider that you've bought a Nissan, a reliable brand unlike perhaps Porsche or Ferrari, bmw m3 for example who can leave you with some pretty eye watering bills.

Then £750 for a years warranty (which won't cover a multitude of things inc wear of parts)...!

I'm shocked there are people who see this as money well spent for peace of mind...either buy the newer car and enjoy better reliability and lower repair bills over ownership and suck up the depreciation, or buy older, for half the price and pay the odd repair bill ;) my 9 year old 350z is kept mint and I don't spend £750 a year on repairs.

  7. It's unlikely it's a scam- I sold my exige to a european buyer (german) and that was £20k of cash. There is always a risk of it being counterfeit and the only way to be sure (without buying many, many counterfeit pens!) is to go to the bank, with the buyer and pay the money in. This is fool proof and much safer IMHO. Bank transfers are also good but i'd stay well clear of paypal for a transaction like this- there are all sorts of ways to loose your money, especially if it's over ~£500 as you're not covered by the usual paypal guarantees.

  8. Some great comments guys- I agree, i'm sure it's a choice more than a few are thinking about.

Cayman S, Z4m, Z4 E89- don't really do anything for me. I'm well aware that a half decent 996 could be had for £15k, but this is an everyday car which will be driven all over the place and I need it to be steadfast reliable. I've driven 911, boxster spyder (amazing but expensive car), never driven the Z4 but my previous BMW experience puts me off- as do the handling comments from owners. The z4m coupe I like but it's getting old now and mint versions are pricey (the condition i'd be wanting).

I had an exige before this, and an E46 BMW 330c M-sport (worst car i've owned). I love the steadfast reliability of the Nissan, rareness, handless, silly-big engines in this day and age and the sound when the airflow is as it should be (intakes/ exhaust). My 350z is easily the best car i've owned to date. I hate to say it but when passing huge shop windows on a sunny day, yes I look at the car, and I sometimes look back having parked after a good drive and think "bloody hell that things good" with a smile on my face. BMW's and porkers just don't do that. The exige did to some extent but it was also a huge pain in the ass (literally) and wallet and was useless on the road for everyday.

I love the GTR but it's a big stretch- £15k is expensive when the running costs are as they are, and yes, at ~£35k the GTR will be more in every respect and i'm not convinced it'll be as FUN on the road, as the limits are so much higher and it's not RWD. Take it to a track to have the fun and i'd probably be looking at potential house-renovation type costs to keep it running.

I apologise for the rookie error of having posted this musing and not tried both cars myself. It is my plan to, but probably in August (house build/ new job keeping me busy). I'll report back when I have :D

  9. I had a 52 plate jdm import with 96kish on the clock, had a full service, new clutch/fly/belts/spark plugs etc etc and a full valet and felt like new. That engine, as long as its looked after will double the mileage. Plus, if you were to crank it up to 150,000 miles, your not going to loose TOO much money on the depreciation side of things. So what I would do, is keep your money in your pocket, save up then buy a GT-R if you want something quick for the road, or if you want a bit of luxury an e class or similar, and keep the 350z and turn it into a track monster so you can have a blast on the track. Well.....That's my plan anyways.

Now I like this- essentially what i'd like to do but thinking about. I keep the car in perfect condition, every single part which seems worn or is even on its way out is replaced and you can feel it when it's driven. I wonder if new bushes/ suspension all round and keep on with it. Interesting comment re the 100-150k depreciation. The money I spend on parts (even though it's a lot) is well under the ~£250 a month+ depreciation a 370z would cost. I love the GTR and see them holding their value.

  10. Agree with the comments on tyres- I found exactly the same issue when I changed mine.

I had run non matching front/ rear for some time with no issue, then replaced only the rears and had insanely active traction control- even at low speeds in the dry as you mention, changed the fronts to the same brand and new, and it went away immediately. Also make sure you have your alignment done. I end up doing mine every 6 months or so (Use HUNTER laser alignment systems- they're highly rated among enthusiasts, don't believe "oh, our system is just as good" from garages). This also makes the car handle as it should and keeps the TC acting correctly.

The car is much better with it turned off though, we're not talking mad driving here, it simply allows you more grip with no detectable slip at points where with it turned on, the TC would interfere. As these cars (uk at least) have an LSD, this is essentially acting as mechanical traction control allowing the car to be controlled perfectly well past the limits of normal diffs where one wheel would spin (eg E46 BMW).

    Enjoy!
