I had a look at the DD demo and I have to say I didn't like the look of the interface, having to scroll up and down to find things is not good while your driving
Hence why I like buttons
I'm a stickler for a good UI as I design them for a living and as such I hate nearly all in-car touch screen devices.
Internet apps are hit and miss. Real-time traffic & maps = good. Facebook & Twitter = bad (distracting etc).
Think I'm going to buy and install.
Will take some pics and post as I go.
If I could, I'd design and build my own!

Hey,
I have been trying to find a nice head unit to replace the standard unit (as it just doesn't do what I need it to - already done the bose hack but want bluetooth / satnav). I've toyed with something like Cookes android based car pc but it seems a little overkill.
Then I stumbled across Parrot's new range. I've search the forum and can't find reference to it so thought I would post and get some feedback.
So check out this: http://www.parrot.com/uk/products/hands-free-car-kits/parrot-asteroid or the not yet released double DIN version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Baua4Ul4TUo
Now, I'm a fan of buttons to compliment touch devices, especially in cars so I'm looking at the single DIN version.
You can buy it from Sextons here: http://www.sextonsdirect.co.uk/in_car_handsfree_kits/bluetooth_head_units/parrot/p~ASTEROID.html?cat=745%20at%20a%20really%20good%20price. or there are a bunch on ebay.
So I'm wondering what everyone makes of this?
I have a GT4 with Bose so want to maintain the steering wheel controls.
I have read this: http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=16403 so think I have all the right kit.
Should be easy, right?

Ive got two different navigation software options on my cooknav that dont require a data connection.
Navigon and sygic mobile maps. Neither of these require a data connection, and both navigated me around the lakes and back home without fail. Including warning me if a strayed over the limit. All configureable for different thresholds etc.
The re-routing when I went off the desired route was instant too
Well that's pretty much awesome then!

Google have released a maps lab that enables you to download a map for offline viewing or in case you drop data connection.
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/07/download-map-area-added-to-labs-in.html
Considering the cooknav requires a 3G connection to get the map data, this could be useful. I'm not sure how the google navigation works (it may do this already)
Just thought it was cool.

I like them. Was looking at these as well... I like the angel eyes look.
How long was fitting?

Goodwood racing circuit for that old England feel ! Also the lavender fields will be in full bloom soon all over the south east and they make an amazing back drop.
I'm sure I can brave the allergies to give that a shot... if the rain ever stops!

PS I do know it's in Kent lol

Hey y'all,
I've been itching to take some pics of my Z with my dSLR and have been racking my brains trying to think of some awesome locations that aren't my driveway or car park.
Anyone know of any good places to take some 'arty' car shots in the Kent area?
-
check the guide, there is a section at the bottom of it detailing the reset process for this.
Ahh... just re-read it and it says to hold the tape eject when the ignition is OFF. Will try that and see what happens.
-
Hey guys,
I did the Bose Hack a few weeks ago very successfully, no problems at all. Yesterday, however, I knocked the eject button on the tape deck and now it keeps saying "Push Eject" whenever I select tape. I have tried holding the eject button in for 60 seconds but still the same message.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Would disconnecting the battery (or power from the head-unit) fix this?
Anyone else have this problem?
-
As soon as I can get the cash together... I shall send it via carrier pigeon (or whatever method you prefer) so I can get my greasy mitts on one of these bad boys! Unfortunately not until I'm back from holiday though
How long will these be available?
-
Yup that would be us, had a good chat, loved your dads lambo. He promised you would both be attending meets in the SE, don't let us down.
I'm sure I'll be about... as soon as I sort out my knocking noise. I'm embarrassed to be seen at the moment.
-
So my Dad was coming back from France and bumped into a Zed coming back from the Nurburgring.
He was driving a Lamborghini Murciélago and apparently the Zed was like mine (Black GT4 Nismo).
Just wondering if it was anyone on here? Mentioned they'd just done something in Maidstone... where I live... so surprised I haven't see any Zeds around.
-
Yeah, this is the thing. I can't decide if they would look good or not. Can't find any pictures of them on a 350z.
-
I was looking on eBay for various 350z stuff and came across these:
They look cool
. Just wondering people's opinions and if anyone has any pics of these on their car?
They say that "HID models will need to adapt the headlights", but no details as to what. Thoughts?
-
Not long before they should be ready now too.
Woo! I'm doing the Bose hack tomorrow as I'm fed up with burning CDs. This is the next step on from that.
-
Drop links potentially, very common issue. Just had mine sorted as it used to knock on uneven ground. All sorted now and silent.
I have heard this mentioned before. It's just a case of crossing things off the list I guess. Or take the car apart piece by piece until I find it or the car stops working (as by then it would be just a steering wheel and a seat! lol)
-
I have had my Zed for just over a week now and there is the most annoying clunking noise whenever I go over uneven ground or bumps.
It's a 2005 GT4 with the Nismo Kit.
Things I have checked:
Suspension
Front bumper
Undertray
Break discs / pads
Exhaust (The guy I bought it from told me it was this as he'd put a buddy... it is not)
No dead body in the boot
Sounds like it's coming from the front, low down, but I can't find it.
It sounds too heavy to be a loose body panel.
It happens whether I am breaking, accelerating or coasting.
It is not rhythmic, so not directly engine or wheel related.
Any suggestions? I'm at a loss.

The blue tooth, I've not the foggyest what A2DP is but wiki says this:
Android version 1.6 (Donut) and all subsequent versions support A2DP.
It's the music streaming protocol for Bluetooth. I know Android supports it but not sure if it does in the way I hope.
iPhone -> Headunit
iPhone -> Bluetooth headphones
iPhone -> Android device?
Seeing as Android is also a mobile OS I am unsure of support for streaming music to it rather than from it. Not sure if there are any apps for it that would allow this. More research needed I think.
Hope that makes sense. Not such a massive deal with an SD card or USB connection.
Looking forward to the finished product!
Bose hack and 16gb card or external HDD FTW!
I've been using the web radio the most so far, so there's unlimited music there.
Internet radio, totally forgot this bad boy is connected! Obv wifi but does it / can it use a 3G dongle? Will prob whack an old external 2.5" drive in there. Route it back to the center console cubbyhole where the phone adapter is.
Really ace work man.

I am def interested in this! Beats the competition hands down as it uses Android's interface (I am a stickler for nice interface design). The price is also less than what I had panned to spend on something no where near this good.
Count me in... although nowhere near Chesterfield (I'm Kent, South East) so postage and basic instructions would be nice. I will be performing the Bose hack soon.
Just a couple of geeky questions (while I have read the whole post I may have missed if these have been mentioned) :
Will it support A2DP blueooth streaming from my phone?
What kind of HDD is built in (Or is storage via USB stick)?
Still... count me in!

Does anyone else have any pictures of these on a z? I suspect the ones on the picture of the skyline are 20s..
Cheers,
I think these are 19s

I've actually decided to keep the standard GT4 wheels. They've grown on me.

Having had a bluetooth streaming headunit and a satnav (seperate units) in my last car (before they were nicked) I have been looking for something to replace the standard BOSE head unit.
Has anyone got one of these? http://www.sony.co.uk/product/in-car-navigation/xnv-l66bt
Looks like Halfrauds are selling them for £999 but you can get them for £700 on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SONY-XNV-L66BT-Car-DVD-USB-Bluetooth-Navigation-Screen-/150598061173?pt=UK_AudioElectronicsVideo_Video_TelevisionSetTopBoxes&hash=item2310580c75#ht_2749wt_1139
Being a designer by day, I am really picky about interface design, and this has a very nice one. And hard buttons too (have to have that for volume / skip etc.)
Also looks like the Satnav is done by TomTom so has quite the pedegree.
So has anyone had any experience with this?
Can I retain my steering wheel controls?
Am I right in thinking I will need the double din facia and BOSE wiring loom mentioned in this post? http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=16403
It has 2x A/V inputs (so it says) so can connect up a reversing camera too.
[edit] Ok I have just seen a few vids on youtube and the actual UI is super ugly, only the TomTom UI looks slick. Anyone have any alternatives?[/edit]
It *is* a bit pricey though.
Thoughts?

No, there isn't one yet (that's what you get for being ahead of the curve).
The lovely folks at Sextons called me up to say as much as I ordered one of the connectors that goes with it.
I have since done some more research on it and it looks like you can't maintain the phone controls from the steering wheel even *with* the correct (not yet been made) wiring harness. Folks seem to say that you can do it, but that you need to disassemble the steering wheel control itself and hack rewire the button.
More research needed but I've bought it anyway.
I would have installed it at the weekend but Sextons only sent me the unit and not the converter or wiring loom
I'll post some install pics (if I remember)
