For some reason my drivers side window has taken on a life of its own - when I use the auto close it winds all the way up then winds down to half way open again. If I hold the button it closes and stays up. I've tried turning off the ignition and trying again but it does the same thing - also doesn't matter if the door is open or closed. My best guess is that it's not stopping when it's right up so it keeps winding, gets stuck when it hits its limit, thinks its got something jammed in the door so releases. Any better suggestions or ideas on how I fix it? Ta, Mike

Auxiliary Belts - DIY or Definite Garage Job??
Mickeywheelspin replied to Mickeywheelspin's topic in 350Z Technical
Thanks - found that while Doris was off asking for the parts prices which encouraged me to ask if anyone here has actually done it. I've had problems before with online guides making a job sound easy then when you've got it all apart it becomes apparent that the person who wrote it has never been under a car before or fails to mention the use of special tools. I had a quick look earlier and found nout but have had a closer look and doug this up viewtopic.php?f=35&t=16644 Sounds perfectly doable Thanks for the quick replies guys - this forum is awesome -
Hi, Currently have the Zed in for a P3 and the garage (Nissan Slough) have advised that the auxiliary belts are cracked and they want £155 to do them. OEM parts come in at about £40 so just wanted to check with someone whos done it before if this was a possible DIY job or if it had to be done at the garage? I'm reasonably car savvy but usually work on older engines. Sorry don't have a Haynes manual yet to check the amount of work (will be getting one). It's a 56 reg GT. Thanks!

Agreed, I think that apart from "those in the know" FNSH is worth something. The other problem I have is that although I accept that Abbey use 'superior' parts and provide a good service they're about £50 more and an extra 120 miles or so round trip.

Scumbags hurt my car – paint advice please

Cool, I'll pop to Halfrauds and grab some tomorrow - will get the new number plate on saturday and give the old girl a propper clean! -
Craig from WLMG has just told me the following... L service is for low mileage cars so they don't bother checking the plugs or rear brakes At P2 (£219) they change the oil filter - for a P3 (£295 - that's magically dropped £100 between phone calls!!!) they do oil filter, air filter, lights, levels and change the brake fluid. Don't think that includes the spark plugs (forgot to abut if they tell me they need doing I reckon I can manage that myself. The other option is to call Abbey, but I'd quite like to keep the book all stamped up...
-
Seems odd that the p3 and p2 are the same - sounds as though I'll just be paying for someone to write a 3 in the book instead of a 2! Reckon I'll shop around for an L3 then if there's no difference. £150 to hook it up to the diagnostics is crazy.
-
Ok, so I just called Nissan Slough (WLMG) and asked for a quote for a P3 service and they quoted me £399 I explained in the nicest possible way that she was having an effing laugh and I was expecting sub £250 and she said that would be the cost for a level 3 not a P3 and that the P3 is only really for cars still under warranty - the work is exactly the same they just have to do more checks on a P3 service..... smells to me. So a level 3 is right is it?? By the way, it's a 56 GT with 37K Ta, Mike

Scumbags hurt my car – paint advice please
Mickeywheelspin replied to Mickeywheelspin's topic in 350Z General
Tell me about it - so annoying. Only about 25 people use that car park of which only 4 or 5 park near me. There's no way you could've done that without knowing So far the car park bumper inspection has revealed nothing but two cars that seem to have gone through the car wash last night. Looking at the bumper again I think the damage may just be crap scratching between the two bumpers when they rubbed together so hopefully is very surface. I'll have a light go with some t-cut tonight and see how it comes up. Photos didn't come out well from a mobile but attached one below to give an idea. (First attempt at this so it can only go well.... good luck people) -

We do have cameras here but I cant get hold of one right now (In meeting rooms with day long meetings going on) I'll try to grab one at lunch. In the meantime I'll head out and see if I can get a decent pic with the phone. It's due a P3 service and whilst I'd trust Nissan (Slough probably) to do me a new number plate and mount, I don't think I trust them with paintwork.... -
Parked my car in the usual spot outside the office yesterday and when I left I realised that some feckless git had reversed into my front bumper and knackered the number plate and mount. Its particularly annoying as it’s a private car park and did anyone apologise? Did they leave a note on the car? Did they bo**ocks!! Anyway, before I begin my forensic examination of the salt spray on everyone’s bumpers, I just wanted some advice about the paintwork – it looks like there is some fine cracking on the bumper where it has flexed and then sprung back in to position. It’s not really visible unless you’re looking for it but I’m worried that if moisture gets into the cracks it’ll get worse or start lifting the paint. Is this likely to happen and if so how do I prevent it? Can you get it patched (well) or is it a re-spray of the bumper? Cheers, Mike

Nope and it drives me crazy! The satnav is great and rubbish in equal measure.

Initial Thoughts After 20 days of Ownership
Mickeywheelspin replied to Kingman's topic in 350Z General
lol... I was going to start a similar thread to this but more to rave about how much I love the car rather than gripe too much about it - I think it's brilliant to drive and beautiful in a slightly raw way... if you know what I mean. Surprised by the number of grumbles here though - although I can see where you're coming from generally I disagree..... Looks - well, should've bought the coupe - its beautiful all year round Performance - power delivery is refined - not a boy racer turbo ride but easy to get carried away I prefer to think of the gear change as "manly" Bose unit - the lack of aux in is irritating but generally the sound quality is good - not superb, but good. Generally though it's not the big things that annoy me about cars, looks, suspension etc. - I tend to figure that those things are part of the car so live with it. If I don't like it I should've bought a different car. When I was looking at getting the zed I was also looking at an Elise and a S2000 - generally extremely happy with my choice but I do still have a soft spot for an Elise. The things that really upset me about cars are the things that are just plain irritating - lazy moments in the design office.... for example; - the full beam indicator light is WAY too bright. Do they not realise that you'll only be using it when its really dark? - the indicator "tick" is too quiet - lack of aux on the 'Bose' head unit is ridiculous - particularly as its a high spec car and this is an upgrade - Whats with the little draw above the fag lighter in the passenger footwell? What the hell can I put in that? Surely a cup holder (which is in some pre 2006 models I think) is far more useful!! That said, these are only minor niggles and I LOVE the car so generally dead chuffed!! -
Cheers Colin

Cheers Neil, I had a quick look on fleabay but there's nothing on there at the moment - was just wondering if anyone knew where I could get a (free) copy online. If all else fails I'll call Nissan and beg.

Hi, Does anyone know where I can view, download or buy a sales brochure that would be applicable to my 56 zed?? Just curious about what it says really. Ta! Mike

Admiral were the cheapest by far. I was with Tescos on the old car and had already paid £400 for the year one month before getting the Zed - to change cars for the remaining 11 months they wanted an extra £1300! Called Admiral and they quoted over £600 (fully comp, guaranteed no claims) then added the wifes car and it came in under £500. What surprised me is that they apply the full years multicar discount even though the wifes current (Tesco) policy expires three weeks before the renewal of my Admiral policy. So for the promise of having her insured for 3 weeks (£25 ish) I get a whole years multicar discount of around £130. Also, I wasn't as quick as I should've been with sending them proof of no claims (all sorted now) but they wrote to me saying they would reset my no claims to 0 years and the quote would go up by £145. Ok, I'm 32 and live in a nice(ish) area, but that sounded like a bargain to me!!

Bose Ipod mod - with power (again)
Mickeywheelspin replied to Mickeywheelspin's topic in I.C.E & Electronics
12V plug should definitely work - I was just trying to minimise the number of components. Interesting question Husky.... I dont know - had assumed 12V. Even if it is 5V I'd rather wire in an iPhone charger as I've learnt from experience that iPhones dont have a protective fuse, they just fry if they they are overloaded. I wouldn't be sure of the voltage tolerance of the stereo supply anyway and the stereo may be more tolerant of overvoltage than the phone. -

I had thought about finding the lighter socket supply but didn't fancy stripping out too much of the dash to find the cable - I'll try the switched 12V to the stereo and see how I get on. It might be worth dismantling the USB adapter - I was just a little nervous of soldering to something that small but it would be far neater and only costs a tenner or so if it goes wrong. Cheers guys, I'll let you know how I get on - might not be for a couple of weeks tho. -
Hi all, From a quick search I can see that this has been done to death on this forum so apologies for banging on about the ipod mod again, but I wanted a second opinion on a variation on the standard Bose iPod mod. At the moment I have a dock that was wired in by the p/o and I cant make it work for love nor money so I'm planning on pulling the stereo and having a go myself. Essentially, I'm trying to find a way of charging the iPhone / iPod as well as piggybacking it onto the tape input. I'm planning on using one of these leads... http://www.dvbcaraudio.co.uk/ipod-phono ... -4087.html Has anyone purchased one of these before?? It looks to have L&R audio plus power and ground without having any means of regulating the power. I've been bitten before with a charging FM transmitter that worked fine with an ipod but blew up two iphones before it hit the bottom of the bin so I dont want to just connect it the the stereo switched 12V supply without a means of regulating the power. Figured I'd wire the power and earth leads into a USB plug ... http://www.maplin.co.uk/usb-1.1-plugs-22681 Then plug that into a standard car charger (the smaller the better - hopefully I can find somewhere in the bulkhead to stash it).... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Griffin-GC23095 ... 573&sr=1-1 Then solder leads to the charger, hook that into the wiring loom and insulate it to stop it earthing. Hopefully this'll give me connections to the stereo and a regulated power supply so my iPhone will be safe and sound. Thoughts?? Mike

Boney M? Awesome - vaguely remember doing a search on a search on everyhit.com for the number one when I was born and that turned out to be Boney M - Rivers of Babylon Yep - got the BT adapter and the phone connects fine, it's just that I would like to be able to make calls without dialing from the phone handset. Thanks martin but this soon after splashing out for the car I'm reluctant to fork out again for a new head unit. Plus, I think there are sometimes issues with incorporating the steering wheel controls / loosing the sat nav voice etc. If I can get the dock working for now I'll be happy while I look down the back of the sofa for change to get a new head unit. Husky, I'm not too sure if the tape deck works or not - it certainly loads and turns but the only tape I could find was blank. Mike

Hi all, I've only had my zed for a couple of weeks and I absolutely love it - got a little more poke than the 1968 Triumph Spitfire I was driving Anyway, so far I've only got a couple of slight grumbles (I know they've probably been covered many times before - sorry). Firstly the Bose cd player.... it's....well.... rubbish! Unless I'm on the motorway or dead flat A road it jumps all over the place. The query I have is that the car does have an aftermarket iphone dock wired into the centre console and from reading around it looks like the common "bodge" is to solder this onto the tape deck tracks on the PCB in the stereo and trick it into playing from the ipod rather than the tape deck. Sadly however even after I managed to find an old tape and put that in it doesn't work. Am I missing something - is there another way this might work?? My second query is the voice dialling - how on earth do you programme that?? It'd be nice if it pressing the button on the wheel it triggered the voice dialling on my iphone but I dont think that's an option. Thanks in advance!! Mike Oh - it's a 56 plate GT if that helps :-)
