  1. i did the ipod hack and used an ipod adapter. It doesn't work with my iPhone 4 or my gf's new ipod nano (thank goodness) but works with the classic i bought at christmas. in hindsight i'd go for the 3.5 mini jack as it works with everything - unless you desperately want to be able to charge it. i avoided this as i didn't want to mess with the electrics.

you could easily swap to a 3.5mm jack post-install though

  2. careful with this one. leaving the power disconnected might be a good idea. my ipod died in the car which I thought was cos i dropped it earlier so i bought a new one. all was working fine, then i turned my lights on and my brand new ipod got fried!? realised the problem is with my mod. how did that happen?

going to disconnect the power part and just run the audio (once i get a new ipod). battery life on the ipod is 36 hours anyway.

  3. thanks to AlexZ and dcash5 for the info. I did the ipod mod today - took about an hour and now i can charge my pod and listen to all 60GB of my iTunes library. it sounds excellent. the only slight downside is that i had 2 screws left over when i put everything back so i'll keep them in the car in case the dash falls apart...

one thing that might be useful, if you accidentally hit Eject, the tape player goes a bit wierd and the mod no longer works. what you need to do is hold Eject with the ignition off then turn the ignition on and that will sort it.

    thanks again,

    Jon.

  4. hey just a quick note - the exact same thing happened to me a few weeks back - blade silver drivers side mirror snapped off overnight, a week after i bought the car.

have you sorted it yet? as I couldn't find one (apart from nissan who would have charged over 500 for parts + labour - still considering this just to get it done with minimum hassle) I stuck mine back on with Araldite (the one with 2 tubes you mix together). It is clearly an interim solution and i was expecting high speed mirror failure, but it's still holding and i've since done several hundred miles, been over bumpy roads and done 90+ on the motorway. i shouldn't recommend it though...just FYI

  5. hi. i don't use mine (55 GT) for commuting but on a couple of motorway trips i have done it is a v.pleasant place to be, eats up the miles. but also fun on country roads. however nothing like the feel of my bro's mx5 which is more raw and almost more fun, even though only tiny engine. however i might get flamed for saying that and i've only had it 2 weeks so haven't had a chance to take it to the limit yet...oh and it sounds amazing!

i live in london and it averages about 15-16mpg around town with a slightly heavy foot. but after a couple of motorway trips my average is now just over 20mpg, including a lot of around-town stuff.

i'm very happy with mine and only negative is i don't get enough chances to drive it.

  6. Was looking forward to a drive to the coast today, got to the car and some idiot has snapped off my drivers side wing mirror. It was on the pavement side too so it wasn't a car. Must have been some drunk t**t. Only had the car a week!

Trying to Araldite it in the meantime, but wondering if anyone has the part in question for a blade silver 55 plate model? I think i can sort out fitting it myself thanks to a guide from Alex but any tips would be appreciated.

    cheers

    Jon.

  7. you have to press the button then say "dial name" or "dial number"

then it should say "number/name please" depending on what you said

then you say the number (in blocks of 3-6 at a time works best) or name (if you have stored it)

then it will repeat what you said, then you have to say "dial" at the end

    that's it

it's worth pointing out that you can only dial a name if you have stored it in the module itself - the module cannot dial names from your phone contacts list (unless i missed something)

to do this you press the button and say "store" , she asks for the number and name, then at the end you say "store"

hope this works for you

  8. couldn't get the pen to work, so i put a tape in - now the tape is stuck! it kind of goes up, down, up, down, then gives up and stays in the up position. not the most slick ipod connection method. oh well i'm off to get some pliers to get the tape out.
