  1. Hi guys,

After catching the turbo bug recently i have pretty much decided on selling my pride and joy and heading off to STi land...not the disease!

    Pics below link.

    Without mods- £7000

  2. Just to add to this ever adapting thread. Great coilys, had them on the car for over 2 years now and haven't missed a beat, dropping the car 25mm I also had to fit new a-arms and full camber kit to mine, but not all Zeds are the same.

As I'm probably selling the car, my own BC racing coilys are coming off and will be put up here for sale soon, along with a Buddy Club exhaust system and probably 4x Varrstoen 2.2 wheels and tyres. Thought I'd drop that in there ;)

  3. Is it a turbo or supercharged 2002 JDM Zed Keyser? ;)

That's a very nice GT4!! Saw some of the proper rally specslast weekend at the Wye Dean Rally, quick cars!

Cheers dan, I was dipping into the teens with the Zed on a daily basis anyway. Must of been my heavy clubfoot  . I think I'm fairly sold on an STi. I would only kick myself and regret it if i went WRX to play it safe.

  4. Cheers Dan. The news gets better then, the Zed only averaged 5k miles per year between services anyway. Interesting that they aren't as high tensioned as Evo's .

Sorry, had to ask...Fuel consumption compared to the Zed, general commuting? Fairly similar in terms of heavy foot also?

  5. Thanks for the input

Quick scanning has revealed Sti's can be picked up for around 4k which is pretty good. Am I right in thinking these have the general same service costs and check-up times that the Evo's have? i.e. service every 5k miles, etc ? Or is it less? How is it as a daily driver also?

    Cheers!

  6. Thanks, the ideal being that whilst the Zed is a great GT car and lazy boy, the Impreza has a bit more of the 'young brat' about it.

I see your point with the STi. At current, the difference in insurance (for me) between the WRX and STi is about £450 which is quite a large gap however, if found at a good price then the STi would then become good value as whilst I would initially be paying more on insurance to begin with, the cost of building a WRX up to STi standards would be more than the initial insurance cost you reckon? As I wouldn't be modifying the Impreza (possibly at all, although certainly not for some time).

I'll be sorting myself an advanced driver course whilst I do all this changing about, never did it with the Zed despite the huge gap from the previous car.

  7. So if i could find an STi for a reasonable amount of money, say similar to that of a WRX, I should definitely take it over the WRX? I was unaware of how different the two actually were. Would it not be possible to eventually tune a WRX up o the level or even surpass that of the STi? I query as there is quite the difference in insurance costs.

My way of thinking is that I have never had a turbo car and I should bite the bullet sooner rather than later. Four seats would be a benefit also in terms of being able to take friends and family around easier. I love my Zed, but I am not prepared to wait and 'perhaps someday' have the money to turbo/super charge or v8 her at the cost of what could more than likely be a better car for the money, does that make sense? B)

  8. Thanks Martin. I just tried a fake quote on moneysupermarket and it's come out cheaper than the zed is costing me atm :scare: . Think I'll delve into this a bit further to see 'why' it's cheaper before I go about committing to anything (be a while yet as I haven't decided either).

  9. Thanks for the other options; didn't think about a 3 series Ekona, thanks I'll add that to my considerations  Corolla is an option too, just saw a few ralling at Wye Dean on Saturday! A few friends have had/ still have the Cupra R and I've heard mixed reviews, although nothing is quite the same as making up your own mind so I'll add that also thanks! :)

Martin, in terms of a percentage say, how much more has the Impreza cost you than the Zed insurance wise? If you are available to say ofc.

  10. Just more of a sensibility factor dude.

More seats would be beneficial for a start, 4wd would also be helpful as I live down a pretty crappy road which is downright abismal to exit with even the smallest of snowflakes.

Also another key factor would be that If i would keep the car then as a turbo the performance modifactions to be made would be less of a cost and a smarter way to go than pour loads of money into a Zed. I love my Zed, but practicality and being smart about the situation I am currently in should come first. :)

  11. Thanks Ekona. Of course I could strip the Zed of the exhaust, wheels and coilovers too for possibly better money as I've kept the original parts in the shed. 6k then, say I would spend 3k on the car and 1k max on insurance (worst case scenario) would still leave me with the money to hold me by until I can get more income.

  12. Cheers for all the options chaps. If i do change from the Zed it would be beneficial to have more seats I guess, I say turbo or charged as then there is the possibilty of easier modification for the future. I am considering a bugeye at present, as the running costs don't 'seem' to be too different from the Zed's. My main reason would be that selling the Zed for I'm assuming 7k is the going rate these days? Would free up some money whilst I'm part-time working and at college.

The only thing about well known cars like the Impreza is "are they going to be a considerable amount more on insurance due to the nature of history?" . Most will know what I mean there.

  13. Guys, won't go massively into detail but, i'm toying with the idea of selling the zed currently if i need the money.

Just curious to see what cars people think i could get for £3000 and under. Age is of no great concern.. Turbo or charged aren't bad thoughts for cheapness. I've scanned and it seems estates and hatchbacks seem to be the base.

Like i said i'm only toying with the idea at present.
