  1. Ah interesting I didnt know. Looked up Carnetix psu , m2-atx is a cheaper version with more or less same featured so will stick with that. Thanks though. Will start to look into hibernate modes, thanks for the heads up
  2. do you not find that rinses your car battery though? What happens if you dont use your car for a week or so? I know there are a few options with the m2-atx so might explore that more..
  3. I was planning on eventually hooking up buttons to the japanese buttons, so you could control the screen and other things, but for now they will stay not doing anything but looking nice.
  4. Hi All, A big update, on thursday it was the best post day ever! (normally i get nothing) it is more or less everything to build the pc including case, screen, casing, all computer parts (apart from m2-atx) Anyway here is some progress pics of me putting the screen together then playing the trailer for Illusionist and then showing of Centrafuse (Which seems quite good so far, although is slow loading) All in all it has around a 1min10 second boot to playing music. Which isnt too bad so far, i recon i can prob cut off the ten to get it around 1 min. I timed myself today starting up car and pulling out of space to electric gates and it was around 1 min, so should be fine. Any questions fire them over, i will do a guide when done.
  5. even if they did i doubt they would find anything and if teh search gets too far you say that could it be your parking sensors and remote garage opener...and then im "pretty" sure there is nothing they can do as you are perfectly allowed to have those and certain models of those can interfer. Also tbh unless your going way over the speed limit its probably not worth thier time as they have to provide you with documentation when requested that they have searched your vehical etc.. I could be completely wrong and speaking BS would be interesting for one of the coopers to comment on here.
  6. Yikes, Don't go down the jamming route, this can lead to a perverting the course of justice charge, far more serious than speeding. The police are using more and more laser devices which can't be detected only jammed. Although I'm pretty strict with myself over speeding I have memorised all the possible locations of every mobile camera in my area, there's about 10 of them and my Nurrish SatNav detects all the fixed ones. Pete i could be wrong but i didnt think anyone had be caught jamming and then charged (i thought it was just a threat) also the device is so small i dont beleive they can search your car so you just quickly throw it under the seat and say i dont know what your talking about...dont quote me though
  7. So you recon an 11amp fuse then?
  8. Ah ok so 160/12 is 13.33 so should i go up or down? Up gives me a little leeway if there is a spike for some reason right? So 15amp should be good?
  9. Ah brilliant thanks can anyone sense check this for me: My diamieter area measuring using a ruler of the (copper wire only) is about 4mm which makes the wire about 6 guage and its around 15 feet long. (using link above) As the carpc uses a 160 watt power supply that surely means it pulls at most 160 watts which means that according to this link: http://www.my-car-computer.com/carputer-wiring.html with the info above i should be using 15amp fuse and my wire should be ok. Am i correct or wrong?
  10. HI All, Just a quick question to the people in the know, i have some red power cable from a friend who had previously used it in a amp project on another car. I was hoping to use it on my carputer project but i have no idea what Gauge it is. I was wondering if someone can tell me how i know? Must be a simple solution, i would say its a little thinner then an HB pencil (it previously had a 30amp fuse in if that helps)
  11. there was a fantastic bit of kit released in the US recently for your iphone dont remember the name but im sure a google search will find it. It did everything including jamming.
  12. Bringing up an old thread... im having a similar nightmare situation, my car has around 15 small dings, very very small but about half have left little white with a hint of red patches - the kind that are fairly small and unless the light catches them you wouldnt know they were there.Trouble is i know they are!! The other awkward situation is my neighbour who is doing it, when ever i see him opens his door like a knob but always seems to hold it...(when ever im sneakly watching him anyway) So i never feel i can go out and say something. (Also it doesnt help but him and his wife recently lost thier baby so I dont really want to get stroppy at them!) So im not really sure what to do, but what is strange is it has only seemed to have happened in the last month or so.. I guess my question is how easly will it come out, how much will it cost? is it screwed if the paint has been rubbed off on some? And am i just better accpeting my car will get dings... Any advice would be good, if its a case that they can get dings out like that fairly easily and at a reasonable costs then i might just save up and do it at a latter state.
  13. Can you explain this in more detail? I'll probably give this a try first Have a look at this thread viewtopic.php?f=35&t=37034&hilit=penny+trick The first pics show the "boots" neo-ninja means. An alternative to the 'penny trick' set out in that thread. Yes sorry should have linked, it has worked really well for me, i bought white ones so had to paint black but was dead simple. (I did this partly as my boots just wouldnt come off.
  14. They are starting to, but only very limited, i think that in the very close future within a year more or less everything with a screen will have apps and an appstore. Devices like toasters etc are still a way off but I suspect it will happen. I am also talking more then changing the colour of screens etc in cars, but that will be the start, it will however go deeper, changing engine settings to get better fuel consuption, changing settings to get more power, changing settings so your stereo auto pics up certain frequencies when you travel to certain gps locations etc.. (just using my imagination)
  15. HI All, Just a quick update for anyone that is interested i have just finished doing all my research as some of you might have seem. I have so far bought: mini itx case 160gb hdd 2.5-3.5hdd converter cable m2-atx powersupply 2gb ram dual core atom motherboard+ processor 7"screen 2003 satnav Cubby 5m 10 gage red wire with fuse box 5m 3.5 audio for Bose hack double sided velcro pads to hold pc down but still enable it to be taken out when needed. (lots of people drill them in, but actually if you look online velcro is just as good and actually has anti vibration properties) loads of cable ties to keep everything neat and in place electrical tape - just incase gaffa - tape just in case I will be following these guides: http://liljerk.morpheus.net/350Z/firewall/ http://liljerk.morpheus.net/350Z/rear_speakers/ - hopefully not as extreme viewtopic.php?f=9&t=33982&hilit=bose+hack http://www.my350z.com/forum/audio-and-v ... wires.html I have never installed an amp etc before (headunits yes, but amps no) so I am quite nervous about taking off to much pannel work but hopefully with the guides and advice from others i can get away with not too much (we shall see, might just be easier to go whole hog) I will probably do Bose hack this weekend to make sure i get it up and running. Dont remember i am looking for someone to help out on costs (before misses moans about them) so if i can build you a unit and make a little money i will do!
  16. Yeah i think for me what was most interesting was the idea that even things like cars etc.. might be able to use this technology in so many clever ways. As long as the electronic companies keep there systems relatively safe/secure then it should also mean that it will encourage developers to be more and more creative.
  17. have apps on it... Hi all, I read an interesting article a few weeks back about tech trends and then decided to write the below myself was wondering what people thought, agree, disagree. etc.. After reading a short article last month on 100 tech trends that might happen this year (2011) I saw one of the trends predicted was more app stores opening and more electronic devices (TVs, Cars etc…) having apps of their own. What the article did not explain is why this will happen, it loosely based it on an idea that everyone wants to capitalise on Apples success and try and have their go at starting their own Appstore However I believe the reason why with 100% certainty that all electronic devices will have the ability to use apps in the future is for the simple reason that electronic tech companies can very easily and very cheaply make money, with almost no risk. The logic is this; currently you buy a TV from Sony for £500, that TV will last you approximately 3-10 years depending on how often you change your TV, if it breaks if you move house or if new technology comes out (roughly every five years) you might change it sooner. In that entire time Sony have only made £500 and no more! Sony then have to wait for you to buy another TV from them, which on average is not the case, people are far more likely to chose another product that suites their needs at the time, Sony therefore might never make a penny out of you again. However imagine when you buy that TV it comes preinstalled with a wireless dongle and a small hard drive, both of which can easily be built into a TV or any other electronic device for very minimal cost. Imagine now with your TV you can access an Appstore as you have done many times before, on Apple products. If you only buy 1 application at fifty pence, Sony have now made £500+ royalties on that one application you have just bought, however don’t forget now Sony have another 3-10 years of trying to sell you apps. Applications cost Sony no money to make, as other 3rd party developers want to make their own money hence will do all the hard software work for Sony. All Sony has to do is enable the ability to have applications running on the TV, with the ability to use a wireless dongle to connect to a home network and the memory to save the apps. Now imagine this idea rolled out by all electronic companies across their entire range of hardware. Toasters that can download new settings to change the way and time to cook different types of bread, Cars that can download new settings to remap their engines to alter performance, house phones that get new ringtones and background settings. The possibilities are endless…and will all be possible once the electronic companies realise the potential goldmine they are sitting on.
  18. D box? the other vid i had a while back, basically said that they have special tires and serious amounts of power in the back. I will try and find in a bit
  19. yeah i spotted this few days ago, very cool. I saw a similar video a while back. Initially if you imagine not being able to see peoples legs etc it looks fairly real!
  20. I will pop a couple of them but i shouldnt need to go crazy like in that pic i dont think. Im just nervous about breaking the pins they are on and having rattly or cracked pannels....
  21. Ah thats a bit scary as i was planning on removing the whole center tunnel section to get the audio cable down it. How fragile is it?
  22. Hi Chris, See the power link before, ideally i dont want to remove too much panel work but if i can get power under the carpet that is ace! How did you run your audio cables from the stereo back there? Down the center tunnel and at the back of it then where to, under the carpet again?
  23. Ah awesome, from what i can remember it looked very similar! So its completely fine to start moving about! Thanks for that!
  24. Ah ok, interesting! But whats odd is that there is some sort of black box device with a shed load of cables going to it. Then as soon as i looked around online there were mentions of airbag sensors, and so i carefully put it back and stayed clear! But as i said have no idea if this is true!
  25. Howdy all, As some of you may have seen I am working on a carpc install as a bit of fun, and also to keep me occupied with an interesting project. So far i have the complete system speced out and ready to buy, aswell as the screen and cubby etc... The last part i am trying to work out before i start installing etc, is how i get power from the battery to the rear glove box (i know how to get it from the actual battery all the way to basically the back of the door passanger side door. But then taking it from there up to the glove box seems like a challenge no one can remember how they did. (about 1.5 feet) So today i decided to have an explore, and noticed that in the secret compartment there are a couple of notches so you can take that panel out (the actual secret compartment plastic panel in the glove box) As i did so i noticed there was sound proofing under it but also a black box with wires attached to the bottom of it. What is this? Does anyone know? As far as i can tell some people have said its a airbag sensor so dont even go near it. but i have found no one who can confirm that. The good news about it is there are wires going from it towards the door, so hopefully this means i can get wires up into this area, drill a hole in the plastic and get the power to the pc. But the bad news will be if someone says dont mess! So anyone know? Thanks in advance! Of course i will do a complete set of guides when im done
