  1. After a mini service last week courtesy of CS I had my third visit to Beford Autodrome. I was one of two Zeds (didn't speak to the guy), the ClioSport, BMW & Porsche forums must have had a gathering as there were loads there along with a couple of Nobles, Caterhams and a scattering of Elises. The track was wet/greasy most of the day, which only added to the fun / satisfaction of getting around in one peice - had one spin due to cold tyres. Just after lunch the sun came for a couple of hours to dry the track out, then the heavens opened again.

How about a few more Zeds at the next one?

The day cost me £99, plus £20 for the helmet hire (dick turpin used to wear a mask...). I got through nearly two tanks of fuel and the fuel economy went into single digits. I left with the smug feeling that the Zed got me there and back (160 mile round trip) with no problems. Even the Bridgestones survived their third track day and still have life in them - although looking a bit tatty and on the low side - being changed next weekend.

  2. Just got back from a day a Bedford, really want to go to the ring now!

Sleg - loving the camera idea, saw loads of people today with various camera set-ups - certainly beats a nervous passenger holding a camcorder - unless you want a sea sick style vid on YouTube.

  3. That's quick delivery! Never heard a bad word said about camskill. They don't seem to advertise so it shows the power of word of mouth.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSS!!!! Ordered 2x 225/45/R18 from Camskill for 185 quid delivered! Fantastic, thanks fellas! Tyre place in Notts has already agreed to fit them if i can source them before they get deliveries late-March.

If all goes well next week, i will have:

    2x new front tyres fitted

2x new rear discs and pads (EBC grooved and ds2500s)

full oil and fluid service at Nissan in Notts with the decent OpieOils forum recommended fluids

(already had 2x rear tyres fitted)

I might drive up to Scotland and back next weekend, just because i can :teeth:

Andy - you seem to be going down a similar route to me ref your brakes. Can I reccomend some new hoses? Mitz & Andy (aka CS) fitted some DS2500 pads, new lines and 5.1 fluid and it made such a difference to the standard set up, they work with the Brembos really well and I now have virtually zero fade, even after several hard laps around Bedord.

  4. GT4 Zed - it would be fantastic if you could organise something if the interest is high enough. A few beers would certainly be coming your way!

1-GT4 zed-------------------------------- May bank holiday or any other group date

2-ZedJohn ------------------------------- May bank holiday's good for me. Relatively flexible with holidays.

  5. Thanks for all the positive responses guys, it would be amazing to have a pride of Zeds attending.

How soon would it need to be booked?

    Sleg,

Some pointers etc would be great - I've only driven Bedford before (3rd visit this weekend) so I appreciate it's a bit step up to the 'Ring, I'm very aware that ambition could outweigh ability!

  6. I've got and itch I can't scratch at the mo, I really want to do a 'ring trip this year. Never been and I'm looking for guidance

Would anybody fancy a road trip? How good would a fleet of Zeds (is that the collective term? Gaggle of Zeds...?) look?

Has anyone been and could advise of costings etc?

  7. Morning all,

FK452s aren't going offline in the short term. Yes, the 912 is a new pattern (asymmetrical rather than the directional 452). Asymmetrical tyres do bring a lot of advantages over dirctional tread patterns (quieter, better road holding, improved cornering grip) without losing the strengths a directional tyre brings - water dispersal, straight line traction.

The best place to find Falkens are through a wholesaler called Micheldever and their retail outlet Pro-tyre. The are the sole authorised importer of the Falken brand through Dunlop. Falken has one of the widest product ranges in the market, especially for a non-premium manufacturer, they sell pretty much every size from the good old mini 145R10 through to gangster SUV 22", unfortunately for us Zed owners, we are a very small percentage of their market with the niche tyre sizes that are fitted to our cars so when they're ordering containers of stock from Japan, our needs will only be a very small part of their demand.

I will happily make some inquires as to when stock is next coming into the UK - what area are you in?

  8. The councils are stuck between a rock & a hard place, they claim the majority of their road fixing budget is spent satisfying compensation claims from motorists suffering from blown tyres, buckled wheels etc...

There are giudelines if you can claim or not, depending on the council, depth / width / locaton on the hole, inside leg measurement....

  9. +1 on the effects

It was my first 3D film and I was amazed by the 2x 3Dadverts, one with a Sky HD box that was floating in mid air and then the Cadburys African 'Zingalo' ad with the bid head and cocoa beans flying around everywhere.

    Simple things...

  10. Very tempted as well.

I have a mate who'se just bought a Cayman and we've been wondering how to "track christen" our cars.

You wont find a better track to Christen a car with, no barriers, loads of run-off areas, wide track (three cars wide on the main straight).

It would be good to have more than one Zed there!

  11. I've never understood why people say low tread tyres don't grip as well in anything other than wet conditions. I mean, even I find them ssame. But I'm confused as to why. If your tread is low, isn't it irrelevant if the road doesn't have any snow or water (not damp) on it?

Surely the compound is the same quality all the way through?

A lot of it is phsycological, if someone (regardless of tyre knowledge) says your tyres are looking a bit low then it will play on the mind. As for the compound, when a tyre is made, the compound is mixed mainly by hand and extruded and then moulded so the compound doesn't change throughout the tread.

If the tyre has suffered from uneven wear (ie poor camber, alignment, enthusiastic roundabouts, heavy braking causing flat spots) this will upset the grip levels and once the tyre has started to suffer, the problem will continue through the tyre's life, even if the tyre is moved to another position (or car).
