  1. Normally you get a liter between the lowest point and max point on the dip stick...Just top it up, wait for the oil to run to the sump then try dipping it again....5/30 or 5/40 fully syn will be cool mate.. :teeth:

  2. Nice to see a mechanic who knows what grease is for!!!! Great informative thread, well done.

I'm not a mechanic mate, just know a little about a little ;) ...I estimate accident damage on crashed vehicles. I have serviced and maintained all my own vehicles (and friends) for the last 13 years though...

Thanks for the nice comments :teeth:

  3. Performance and cost go hand in hand, simples. If you can afford the extra get the EBC or Ferodo, being able to stop more efficiently is quite high on my priorities list.

Very fair comment mate, I do understand that...I've ordered the Mintex anyway so I'll give them a bash...Worst that can happen is I have to buy another set lol... :teeth:

have you got a link to where you are getting the mintex pads?

Sorry mate there just a local company in Hull. Mintex is a massive brake company and i'm sure you'll have a supplier in your area. I've received them today and they look pritty cool. The box states 350Z on the size so all should be good. I'll be fitting them at weekend. Reading some more info on Mintex today and they've been on the go over 100 years so I guess they can't be to bad.

Now then mate, I have looked into them but at this moment I'm happy with her...Although I do need some more brake pads lol.

The garage is were I work so I can use it most weekends...Just a shame were only open for 4hours lol... but it great when it's my Sat morning on cause 4 hours is to much lol.

get some yellow stuff pads from cs they feel good enough if you don't do to much inspired driving.

To be honest mate I ordered the Mintex pads today, if there no good I'll order some others of the forum's advise. If there ok I guess there'll be plenty of member's wanting good pads at these prices. :teeth:

  6. why not get some EBC pads from CS. Loads better then OEM and cleaner. Or pm ZMANALEX, he does ferodos. Envy also have plenty of options to.

Hi mate, I've looked on Envy's website and there's are a fair few to choose from  . I have searched on here and most people head for the Ferodo DS2500... I was happy with the standard brakes but thought might aswell have a look while I need them.

With my Nissan discount I can get genuine ones for £67inc vat. I have no plans to race the car (although I'm going over to Nurburg in the summer) so I dont really need anything to flash and the car is standard. I've used Mintex for years now on all different cars and never had a issue, plus there one of the largest brake manufactures in the world. If they dont turn out very good I could still get the standard or one of the above you mentioned. I understand it would cost a little more over all but if the Mintex turn out fine they'll be the perfect buy for any other Z owner just looking for a quality pad at a nice price.

  7. Ok guys this may have be mentioned before but I've been looking for some new pads today for the Z. I spoke to Nissan and theres retialed at £87+vat...I checked out Opie and there Brembo's were good at £108 delivered with discount...I spoke to our local Mintex dealer in the town and they said £26.50... :scare: I asked for the part number "MDB2341" to check the Mintex website myself and he was correct. These pads also fit the later Primera lol...I've used Mintex in all my car and never had a problem. At the cost of these pad I can't afford to not try them...What do you guys think?

Did anyone else know there Primera pads? Does anyone have a image of a front pad?

  9. Ok with the car just clicking over 45k I thought I best get her serviced asap. This is the first servive I've done since owning the car so I thought best do all the oil's and be happy knowing its all done. I spoke to Nissan and bought the oils, washers and oil filter.

I got the car in work yesterday morning and started...I took a couple of images along the way for people to have a peep... :teeth:

    Engine Oil

I snapped one of the lower engine guard nuts in the front panel on removal..I guess Nissan couldn't be arsed to grease then last time it was serviced. Doh

Couple of quick points if your going to do it yourself for the first time...Make sure you bough the correct filter before removing the one on the car lol... Make sure you have a new sump plug washer...this type compresses on itself...

Torque Setting accoring to Autodata is 35Nm for the sump plug.

    Rear Diff

First thing is to whip the plastic cover off....IIRC there are four 12mm nuts... The diff holds 1.4liters of oil according to Nissan's manual and the torque setting for both the plugs are 34Nm. You will find the drain plug has a magnet on the end to collect and loose metal in the diff. Again I bought new washers for both plugs...these are plain washer and could be used again if needed.

    Gear Box

Same as the diff the plugs are torqued to 34Nm, they also use the same washers. I would advise using a 500ml bottle to do this as the 1000ml is a little tight up the side of the box. Nissan say you should use 2.9liters of box oil...this doesnt come out the fill hole like most other cars I've services and you cant feel the oil level when you dip your finger in lol...Scary I know. :scare:. Most other cars also have a magnet on the box drian plug unless mines fell off lol..

I also had a good look round the car as all services should included. The front pads are low and require replacing soon. I've had a quick search and a lot of people recommend Ferodo DS2500. I was looking more toward the Brembo Sport ones. Has anyone used these before...Opie's can sort them for £108 delivered.?

Barring the brakes the car is cool...I changed the plugs to Denso Iridium ones late last years and cleaned the K&N filter.

When the snow cleared today I washed her and clayed the bonnet and wings... :teeth:

  11. I also looked at the M3 when I bought my Z... After reading some M3 fourm information and loads of reviews from all over the world I found the years I considered 2002-2003 had engine problem. If I remember right it was the bottom end of the engine due to poor bearings. They offered a full engine rebuild with either a 6 year warranty or 100k miles if you had full BMW service history and your engine was damaged. The following years 2004-2005 they were still repalcing oil pump and other engine parts underwarranty....At this stage I decided I couldnt bring myself to pay the 15k-17k for a mint M3 and looked towards the Z.

I do see M3's on the road and love them, but i'm really happy with the Z and look towards the future that may included the new V8 baby with carbon roof lol

  12. You managed to get this sorted yet?

That guide is very good and does give ya all the info you need to get it installed. Once you've got it installed and the led is lit then it's just a case of pairing your phone with the car's bluetooth kit which there are instructions of how to do in the instruction manual that comes with the bluetooth module if I remember correctly?

Has anyone else noticed that the hands free kits seem to make it sound like your in a tunel? I used to have a parrot and the audio quality was a lot better, but the ease of use of the bluetooth kit and the fact that you don't have to mess about installing and aftermarket kit has meant that I still have it at the moment

I think the Z kit is good, but the mono speaker is a little poor...I also had a Parrot and the sound from the front speakers was far better...

The Z one has been fine for me though so I;m hanging on lol

  13. Some screens have location bracket to make sure there perfect. I dont think the Z has but if your paying a pro to do the swap you hope there good. I just made sure he knew it was my baby and there would be war if he made a mess or broke anything and didnt inform me. All you can do is have faith...when the chap cut mine out he informed me it wasn't the genuine screen and it wasnt bonded ay all across the bottom...You could see were the sealant hadnt made contact with the car shell :scare: , so I was better off having a new one fitted lol :#1:

  14. There are loads of little kits etc out there...I also have a Leatherman multi tool in the glove box although I mainly use that for mountian biking. :teeth:

I carry the full range of spanner just incase a friend needs help and to make sure there all together lol...there built into a carrier so its no trouble.

    Alex

  15. Lol, yeh I know you have all your tools aswell then, but if some one brakes in you lose hundered in tools lol..I had one of my old cars broken into and they stole my tool bag, took me ages to replace all the tools...little things you dont think about until you relaise its gone...
