  1. What I will say is take is easy in the wet!!!! When I first got it the roads were a little wet and greasy so I took the car to an open wide piece of tarmac in my local industrial estate and got to know the cars characteristics in the wet. If you try to apply too much power in the lower gears the rear end will snake like mad, if you come off the power it will want to spin. It's quite scary at first but is controllable if you are easy on the throttle. So if it's wet and you fancy tearing down some local backroad be very carefull of what the back end is telling you. Have fun on saturday!!
  2. Welcome husky, I recently got my z and I'm absolutely loving it. I also had a Focus ST a few cars back. Did you modify yours or was it standard? The z certainly feels different in it's power delivery from my old 285bhp ST, it pulls very linearly and hard right to the redline which can mask the sensation of speed a little compared to lump in torque provided by the turbo 5 pot. The ST power also trailed off after the revs got past 5k. The car is a lot lot more planted and has miles less body roll, the brembos are great too. I'm confident that even though the focus had way more torque 340 lb.ft vs 280 lb.ft I'd be able to show it a clean pair of heels in the z due to it's confidence inspiring drive. Hope you enjoy the car. I'm from Airdrie by the way, where abouts were you from?
  3. Note if you have the BOSE with sub there is two 15A fuses marked audio. One is for the headunit and speaker amp the other is for the sub amp. If your sub has stopped working you should hear a bong sound when you first start the car, this is to signify the sub amp fuse has blown. Took me a while to figure out why my BOSE sub wasn't working till I found a copy of the wiring diagram which highlighted the fuse.
  4. What's stopping you from doing it if it's not a financial burden? If it feels right do it, if it doesn't hold off till you find the one that does.
  5. I'd agree Mikyhut, the engine is almost turbine like. So much smoother than any straight 4 or 5 engine i've had.
  6. Yeah you're right maxi, big relief I managed to get it home. Rob the entire install draws less than 1A and the outlet is rated to 10A, it's all low power stuff.
  7. I managed to go and get the car home this morning. Beforehand I went to work and pick up my multimeter and some tools. First off checked the battery, 12.3V, fine. So I removed the positive so I could start to buzz the connections back to the main wiring loom. It was open circuit. I then noticed an out of place bolt on the top on the battery connection. Basically there was a broken metal connection that someone had screwed a bolt into to remake. With the kind of currents flowing through this connection and the heat generated the bolt and metal had quickly oxidised and became insulated. Hence no power to any of the car including the ECU and ECM. Thank F**K it happened when I had stopped for petrol and not when I was on the motorway or something. So I rebridged the connection more securely and the car sprang back to life. Needless to say I'll be absolutley shafting the garage for this. At least one years warranty I think.
  8. I'm just reading the manual just now. I'll take it down in the morning with me. Cheers guys for the replies. It's under a 3 month dealer warranty so it'll get fixed eventually.
  9. Thanks, me too. It was murder just leaving it there. I need to get breakdown cover sorted.
  10. Thanks nixy, Mines does that all the time too, but the dash lights still come on and when I hit the unlock button as you describe the car will start again. This time there was nothing happening on the dash. I'm going to go down first thing in the morning and see what's happening when it's light.
  11. Maybe, it's been fine since I picked it up last week though. It's seems strange to me that the car would be completely electrically dead if it was immobilised, surely the dash lights would still come on. I have a spare key fob so I'll take that with me in the morning and see if it works.
  12. The install is powered off the rear power outlet which is 10A fused and ignition active so the install will not be drawing any current when the car is off. The battery when I looked today was at 14V.
  13. I managed to roll it into a parking space that had local cars in it just away from the main forecourt. I drove up to the pump, turned the car off, push the filler cap open. Filled up with petrol. Went into the garage to pay and pushed the lock button on the key fob and the lights didn't flash as usual. That's wierd I thought. Got back out to the car which was still unlocked and it was completely dead, nothing happening whatsoever. The car has a new cat 1 alarm fitted (JDM) so has a seperate key fob, it still works fine as it's LED is flashing when I press the button. When I got the car parked, I manually locked both doors so it's secure.
  14. I know. I drive through holytown everyday so it would've been me. It's been great until tonight, see the general discussion topic. The car electics are completely dead, absolutely nothing is happening when I turn the key. Ah well there is nothing I can do tonight.
  15. Went in to the petrol station to fill up, did so, came back out and the car was completely dead. Turning the key and there were no lights, no starter motor, nothing. Alarm system is also non functional. As it's an auto, so I used the shift lock release to put it into neutral and managed to roll the car into a parking space. I checked all the fuses under the bonnet and everything is fine. It's like there is no battery whatsoever. The rear brake lights still work but I'd imagine they have a seperate back up source in case of emergency towing. So I called my dad who came down with jump leads to see if I could at least get some lights to come on but again nothing. It's almost as if the car has electrically imobilised itself. So I had to leave the car, no alarm, with the doors manually locked in a shell garage, in a not so great part of town. Has anyone got any ideas as to what might have happened?????
  16. Not sure mate, i've only had it a week and a bit. I work in bellshill though.
  17. The postage will probably cost more than the fog light. If you want to give me it, feel free to PM me though
  18. I was thinking more like a £30 flush bumper mount fog light from ebay to cover the holes. Would love to stick a UK bumper on but I'm saving for a house just now so it would be a luxury I could do without. Thanks for offering though.
  19. Jim, It's where the import dealer put the fog light switch. They also put what I can only describe as a caravan fog light on the back which was quickly removed. So i need to find a sleeker solution to cover the three mounting holes they left in the bottom of the bumper.
  20. Doubt it, never really thought about that since it not a house nor a place of residence. As if they are ever going to start looking in cars anyway, though it is the british government we are taking about I'm certainly not going to pay anymore that what is paid for the household.
  21. I put that on myself in place of the fairlady badge, I like the black Z against the silver.
  22. It basically a freeview box designed to work in the car. I pick up 35 TV channels and around 30 digital radio stations. I had a good look around uk stores for a decent one that works when on the move and they were all coming in at around £200. I then managed to source the same unit direct from china for £122 delivered. Here's the ebay link for anyone that is interested. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TWIN-2-TUNER-CAR- ... 7C294%3A30 He accepted a best offer of £95. Please note the DHL charged me an extra £14 import tax so that's £136 in total.
  23. I was going to say I couldn't remember any towing eye when I was cleaning it, that explains it. Oh well back to the original plan.
  24. Ha Ha, the digital TV is more for the girlfriend to be honest. It's the digital radio that I use mostly as the sound is CD quality.
