  1. I'm just wandering what my options are as the volume just isn't loud enough. I don't like it blasting my head off or anything, but the max volume is about 50% of the original stereo, I need more!! The initial setup was the Bose system, so with AMPS and Sub as standard. On the first page of this post Rob mentioned the 'Autoleads Line Level Booster (0-18db)', part number PC9-460 which I've found for £25. I'm just wandering if this will solve my problem, will it boost the levels sufficiently? Also, it looks like there is only 2 channels so does that mean I can only boost the front or back speakers? Or will I need 2 of these things? Is the PAC OEM2 a better solution? Just trying to work out if I should bother with this or just buy a new aftermarket AMP to power the rear speakers and sub. Like I said, I'm not looking to burst my ear drums, I'd just like the sound to be at least as good and as loud as it was with the Bose stereo. Any advice would be greatly appreciated....Thanks!! Just to let you know, I found the answer to my problem regarding increasing the VOLUME of my system without the use of a line booster. When I was playing about with the wires behind the stereo, 1 of the RCA leads (the gold bit where it connects to the ICT 29-674 loom) touched the metal frame and it got noticably louder (about twice as loud actually!!). So I earthed the RCA leads permanantly by wrapping some wire around one of the RCAs where they connect to the loom (didn't seem to make a difference which one). Then I connected the other end to my already made up earth wire that connects to the metal chassis. It's now almost as loud as the Bose stereo (I'd say about 90%), but only after I increase the SLA on the stereo to max in the settings (which is like a volume level you can set for each AV channel, so Radio, iPod, DVD Player, etc). This is a massive improvement but still not perfect as the Navigation volume is at max and I can't really hear it over 50mph so still think I'll be fitting the line level booster anyway, I ordered the 'Autoleads Line Level Booster (0-18db)'. Just thought I'd post in case anyone else had the same problem, not sure if it's specific to my stereo or not (I have th Pioneer Avic-F900BT) Looks like there are only 2 channels on the line booster though, so does that mean I'll need to connect it to either the front or the back?
  2. Thanks for that Rob. I was just hoping someone had had experience with the line level booster. I've just ordered the Autoleads one anyway so I'll see how it goes. If I were to go down the aftermarket AMP route, would a 3 channel AMP be ok? I'm thinking 2 to power the rear speakers and one for the sub (I've seen some with a more powerful 3rd channel), or perhaps a 4 channel and bridge 2 of them for the sub. I'm assuming the stereo will be fine to power the front speakers. I stripped the boot a while back to put some sound proofing in and noticed there is an AMP in the rear of the boot as well as the one under the centre console (by the hand brake). Do you think it would be best to wire in a new AMP with RCA's and then run new speaker wire directly to the speakers, or would it be ok to use the existing speaker wires? I'm just thinking that the speakers look like they'll be a pain to get to. Also, does anyone know which AMP powers which speakers? I wonder if one of the lads down Halfrauds will know
  3. Thanks for this post....has been very useful. I had been using srobriens's guide (link below) for fitting my Pioneer AVIC-F900BT but this post mentions a problem that I'm having, the VOLUME! viewtopic.php?f=27&t=19787 I have the ICT 29-672 Cable and the 29-007 Pioneer adaptor cable for the steering controls, shown below: I'm just wandering what my options are as the volume just isn't loud enough. 4. I have to say I'm not that impressed with the Phone Kit. I'm fine with the fact that it might be a bit rubbish at speed as the 350z is quite noisy, but I'm having problems even when stationary. I have the bluetooth adaptor and an iPhone. People on the other end of the line are telling me the quality is bad and also I can't turn the volume up enough to be able to hear them at speed, say 70mph. Anyone else have problems with the bluetooth kit, or is it just an iPhone issue? Thanks!!
  5. Afraid I can't find the picture I found on here the other day, been searching for ages. The junction box sits under the glove box, so just open the glove box, take the carpet out and then unclip the plastic panel on the bottom. There is some sound proofing which you may need to remove to get to the junction box. When I opened mine, there was no junction box, just 2 connectors. Plugged it all in and it works now. Hope that helps!!
  6. Oh yeah, one more thing about the iPhone, camera's not that great (only 2 megapixels) and there's no video recorder (unless you jail break/unlock it). My Nokia N95 had an amazing camera with a half decent flash too, as I'm sure most new Nokia's have. Depends what's important to you I suppose.
  7. Bugger, I heard it would fit the UK spec model These Dension kits are for the UK models (link below), but it doesn't say if it fits the Bose stereo. http://www.ipodcarkitdirect.co.uk/iPod_Car_Kit/For_Factory_Fitted_Radios/Nissan_iPod_Car_Kit/Dension_Nissan_iPod_Car_Kit/Nissan_iPod_Ice_Link_Plus_Adapter There's also a brand called Neo, not sure if that will be any different. I have an FM transmitter at the moment but it's not great. Any suggestions for direct link?
  8. You can view them, but you can't edit them like you can on some phones. Not a massive deal for me as working on a spreadsheet is pretty much impossible on any phone and if you want to jot down some text then you can just write what you want and mail it to yourself, then paste it into a Word document. However, there is proably an application that will enable editing.
  9. Ahh, just figured it out after a bit of searching. Seems the junction box is under the glove box, or at least should be. Have installed mine and it's working ok now. Thanks anyway!!
  10. Just one point, don't pay £100 for these on eBay as they're only £85 brand new from Nissan.
  11. Hi, I actually bought this kit of ebay, but I'm having trouble setting it up. The kit came with the cradle and the junction box. The junction box has 1 socket (female) at each end (one big, one small). The cradle has 1 socket (female) which is the same as the larger socket on the junction box. The wire that comes out of my centre consome is a 16 pin male plug that will EITHER fit the Cradle OR the Junction box. The cradle cannot be plugged into the junction box as they're all sockets (or females). I've tried just plugging in just the cradle (with the bluetooth adaptor), nothing happens, no flashing light, etc. I thought maybe I already have the junction box in the car already. Does anybody know where the junction box normally sits? Or maybe I'm missing a connection wire? Here are some pics:
  12. Oh, forgot to mention the Blackberry storm is not so great. I had one for a week before got my iPhone, looks nice, does everything you need but no Wifi (which works seemlessly on the iPhone) and the touch screen was hard to use and despite the keys being bigger than the iPhone I kept making mistakes. I did have this when it first came out though, perhaps there have been some software updates to improve it...
  13. I had this same dilemma about 3 months ago. Had the N95 and was very happy with it, so was going to upgrade to the N96, but I got an iPhone instead. It is such a cool phone and being able to get on the web anywhere and browse with ease (so much easier than the N95/N96) makes it much more capable. Email is so much easier on the iPhone too, it's hard not to love the iPhone. The touch screen texting takes a little getting used to, but I'd say it was comparable to a normal phone speed wise, if not faster although I do make the odd mistake now and again. The only thing the N96 has that the iPhone doesn't is turn by turn navigation (voice guided). The latest version of Nokia maps is very good and I do miss that. Google maps on iPhone is great though, but no voice instructions....yet!! Of course if you have sat nav, this won't be an issue. Also, no voice recognition on the iPhone as standard, but I have an application called 'Dialler' that gives it that function (but never used it on either phone). So there are a LOT of very cool but quite useless apps like Google Earth, Youtube, games and many other "impress your mates down the pub" apps, but there are a few useful ones too like facebook, eBay, speed cam detectors, google mobile app, translators, etc. The Samsung Tocco and Omnia are good phones too, but iPhone just keeps getting better plus it's fun too. Version 3 software is rumoured to have voice recognition for making calls (as standard), choosing songs by artist, album name and turn by turn voice navigation. Get one, you won't regret it!!
  14. Cheers Chris, genius!! I've put the factory head unit back in now as I've decided to go down the less expensive route, plus I can't be arsed. So have ordered a SatNav for the cubby (found a cheap Navigon 8110), a USA Spec iPod adaptor and already have the phone bluetooth module. Not as glam but does the job. The deal clincher for me on the Avic-F900bt was the voice recognition, but after I got it I realised you only get that on the US model, bit gutted so I'll be selling it on. The iPod search function is good though and it is a nice bit of kit, just decided I prefered the factory look, skipping CD's and all. Thanks!
  15. Hi, Firstly, thanks for this post srobrien. I've just installed the Avic-F900BT and this has helped me loads. I've got it all in and working now but I have one small problem......VOLUME!! or lack of it. Did you have the same problem? It's just not very loud at all even on 62 (max volume). I'd say it was about half as loud as the original Bose system, if that. Was thinking it might have something to do with the Bose amps. I notice on the PAC OEM-1 kit you can adjust each channel individulally, but can't see the same thing on the ICT 29-672 Cable. Any ideas?
  16. Thanks srobrien, that did the trick. The service manual was a little too much for me I've been looking at loads of options for satnav, ipod connection, etc. Think I'll look into getting a car PC a little more!! Ta!!
  17. Oh, it's a 2004 model with the Bose system with sub if that makes any difference. There are 3 connectors that plug into the back of the stereo. 1 x 16 pin (only 9 wires....which I think might be for the phone), 1 x 6 pin (all 6 wires used) and the 10 pin plug in question. Cheers!!
  18. Hi, I'm in the process of fitting a new head unit, the Pioneer AVIC-F900BT and while I was disconnecting 1 of the 3 connections to the Bose stereo, I pulled one of the connectors apart....oops!! There is a sticky to explain what each wire does, but I need to know what order they go back into the plug...if that makes sense. I've tried downloading the 350z manual and looked at the AV section but it's confusing (at least to me). Was hoping someone might have a picture so I could see the order I need to plug them back in. It's the 10 pin plug (but only 9 are used). Colours are: Orange White Green Grey Red Pink/Black Red/Blue Green/White White/Blue (thick wire) Any help would be really appreciated......thanks in advance!! Ben
