  1. Id like to go 20's at some point too just for the summer and the shows. Ive not really made my mind up on Chrome yet but I would say that if you like it do it - its all personal choice, just be prepared that some wont like them and some will go as far as to slate them but at the end of the day thats their opinion just as buying the chrome wheels was yours.

This is my choice for when I can afford 20's - 5Ziegen 5ZR's

  2. mine is has only had the silencer cut out, no y-pipe or de-catted, i thought it would have been deeper, heard somewhere that it might take a little time to coke up?

Yeah I was told the same. I must admit its been on a few weeks now and its a lot more stable in that the rasping is dying down (but still very present when flooring it) but it hasnt got any deeper (it was ludicrously deep to start with).

I had my backboxes on there from the start and its only since doing the centre section, cats and y pipe that its become so deep. Since you already have the centre done Id suggest that the cats are the next step towards your goal.

Once I get the video up youll be able to judge better mate.

  3. Do you have hi flow cats on there or an aftermarket y pipe?

I only ask because I did the same thing as you recently and mine is quite a different sound. I had a place near me make a stainless steel unsilenced centre section but I had it done at the same time as fitting Kinetix cats and Nismo Y pipe. I still have the similar popping but mine is much deeper. Only problem I have is that it makes a resonating sound like metal flapping about. Ive been told that this could be the cats themselves. Someone I know who fitted hi-flows had the same crappy sound and couldnt get rid of it - its so frustrating as im embarassed to go full throttle as it sounds like its going to fall off lol.

I know that a lot of mods to the zed dont increase performance but mine feels more powerful now - although Im guessing thats just the placebo effect of all the extra noise

Im no power monger and I never push the car as hard as it can go. For me its all about the looks, handling and the noise so im more then happy with the unsilenced centre section and I havent noticed any power drop.

Did you get a video of it yet? Mine used to make a kind griding noise when cold but it was due to the y-pipe rubbing against something.

I never noticed any power loss when I cut mine out. I will be cutting out the silencer on my greddy exhaust when I get chance aswell :teeth:

Im a nightmare mate and still havent got the video done. Ill do one tomorrow night as Im at home and will post it up once its done. The sound is awesome at low revs or even at higher revs as long as its steady acceleration - its so deep and loud its actually saving me money as I dont need to floor it to get the grin on my face. If I accelerate at full speed then the rasp does annoy somewhat. Ill let you guys judge when the video goes up.

So... is doing something like this a feasible option to make my exhaust louder then?

Based on the sound clip posted Id say its your call. If you like the noise, the popping and the tone of it then go for it mate. Some will not want to risk performance but if your like me and not totally performance oriented then go for it. One thing I would say is be weary of the rasping. Im going to refit my standard centre section and see if that gets rid of my rattle. If it doesnt then Ill know the unsilenced centre section isnt to blame.

Id definitely suggest having a new one made rather then stripping the silencer out of your current one. It cost more (mine was £150) but it allows the freedom to revert back upon resale.

  5. I also have a set of preowned front and rear stock mounts in the garage but if I remember correctly they are still on the stock shocks. I will have a look tomoz.

Alex if you do have them and are willing to separate them from the stock shocks please do let me know. Ill take them in a shot. Thanks mate.

rears I have, fronts I need to look around for

Thanks for looking Adam. Nissan said the fronts were easy to get so I'll happily take the rears off you if Alex isnt able to find his full set (or doesnt want to split them from the shocks)

Looks like I may get there in the end - was seriously thinking I'd have to reconsider my suspension choice. Thanks so much for all the help guys, I really appreciate it :teeth:

  6. there are no aftermarket top mounts that I've ever seen for the Z. You can ask KW, but I seem to remember the Clubsport mounts not being useable on the V1-V3's

The HKS kit thats on my car at the moment has aftermarket top mounts - knowing my luck it will be the only kit that does it so Ill have to get the standard ones (not totally against that but its a lot of money for what is essentially a big nut and bolt). Im waiting on a response from KW so I'll see how that pans out but I think you are right.

Take a look at this thread mate, he might be able to help and there’s also a few on eBay who are breaking Zeds… http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15871

Dropped him a pm - cheers mate.

  7. In relation to my other thread here

    http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18329

I want to fit my new KW suspension but I need the standard suspension top mounts to do this. I dont have them as mine were switched out for HKS before I bought the car (HKS has its own top mounts that do not fit the KW's)

So basically what I need is someone who has fitted aftermarket suspension that came with new top mounts. Money waiting for your old ones so please let me know asap if you have your old suspension lying around and have the original top mounts there too.

    Cheers.

  8. Andy, have a word with MrLizard, he bought the KW kit off us, and now has his standard set-up up for grabs...

It came off his 2006 Zed...

Unfortunately mate he would have had to re-use the standard top mounts to fit his KW kit so I wont have any luck there. What I really need is someone who has fitted a coilover kit that comes with aftermarket top mounts. That way they would have their originals up for grabs.

Cheers for the info though mate - much appreciated.

Andy, after posting I engaged my brain and realised that MrLizard needed them for his own use...:thumbs:

 no worries mate - I appreciate any help I can get at the moment.

  9. not convinced i have the top mounts as part of the kit?

If you can see them let me know! :)

anyone who disses my trainers will be given severe evils at the next meet.

and yes i know the garage needs sweeping :p

Think we posted at the same time. Yeah I dont think you will have the top mounts - they are most likely still on the car holding the KW's on. Thanks anyway though mate - thanks for looking.

  11. Or does anyone know if KW make their own top mount that can be used? Trying to call them and emailed with no luck. Any top mount will do as long as its compatible with the KW kit. Cheers guys.

KW does not offer any for the V3 coilovers unfortunately. Did you sell your stock suspension? If not, then you'll need to transfer those upper mounts over.

Damn thats that plan out the window then. Unfortunately the HKS kit was on the car when I bought it from Japan so I never had the stock kit. Thanks for the info Adam.

Does that mean my only options are full price standard top mounts from Nissan or try and get some used from a breakers yard? No aftermarket top mounts out there at all for the KW?

  12. Hey all

Im currently up at Marshall Nissan in Cambridge - meeting the friendly guys, enjoying the GT-R and having my KW V3's fitted.

Ran into a bit of a snag regarding the suspension fitting. Basically my zed currently has HKS suspension which was on the car when I bought it and the HKS kit comes with after market top-mounts which are a larger thread to accomodate the larger thread on the HKS damper. Now unfortunately the KW kit doesnt come with top mounts as its supposed to fit wit the original top mounts (which I dont have). We are therefore totally unable to fit the KW's to my car.

Dom at Marshall has rung round for a price for standard top mounts which came in at £75 each for the fronts. The rears arent even listed on the nissan system so he is sourcing a price for those.

Does anyone have any suggestions or even better a set of standard top mounts they are willing to part with? I wont get the suspension done today now which is a shame but it gives me a bit of time to source some standard suspension top mounts so if anyone knows a breaker with a zed in stock or any other suggestion would be much appreciated.

    Cheers.

  13. Is the one door/two door thing based on where the car is from? I only ask because mine is a JDM 53 plate and both my doors unlock when I push the key fob button once - it always has done.

To add another twist to the tale if I push the button inside the drivers door to lock the car (not the lock itself but the button on the arm rest bit) it only locks the passenger door and not the drivers. Only way I can lock the drivers door from the inside is to push the manual lock switch on the handle - which also locks the passenger door at the same time

    Im totally confused

  14. Im interested in prices too.

I have a cusco strut brace on mine with a plenum spacer. It fitted fine without the spacers but noticed a tiny bit of rubbing on my polished plenum just underneath the bar so I fitted the spacers and been fine ever since - no probs at all. Looks great also.

  15. A really simple install would be like I have in mine. Its a kenwood 7" touch screen in the cubby and a kenwood sat nav and av box wired in located in the glove box behind the passenger seat for easy access. You get sat nav and can also add in games console, reverse camera etc.

I also went for an Alpine double din touch screen dvd with ipod connection in the main area to give me the two screens. Its all relatively simple to install as long as you dont mind taking your centre console and transmission tunnel apart.

    Heres a look:-

  16. so in major Laymans terms what do I need to get free HD tv?

    This box for £115

A dish - where can I get one and how much are we looking at?

    Is that it?

I really like the idea of this but I have nothing at the moment that I can use (no dish, loftbox or anything else) so Im wondering how much would this cost me to buy all the bits and have them installed - or is it easy enough to install it myself?

    Thanks.

  17. 3FiddyZ is most likely right but also the glass in mine on the passenger side rattles against the door. If the window is fully done up its not so bad but open it by a few mm and it rattles like crazy. Doesnt do it if I lean on the door slightly.

Best bet would be to remove and refit the door card, checking that all internals are attached and not loose.

Also my passenger seat belt makes a hell of a racket if its not located in the plastic clip on the door pillar.
