Ross Mac Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Now Im getting into the swing of Z ownership Im thinking about fitting a small front numberplate? What you guys think? Anyone got nay pics of Z's with small plates fitted? If it looks naff I'll not bother but just a thought.... Quote
Andy Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I have a small plate but not on a standard bumper!! Don't know if it helps at all!! Quote
holtehero Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Are small plates legal? or is it just the lettering that has to be a certain size Quote
Liam's Z Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 No i think but lettering/ spacing needs needs to be correct... 9/10 people who have a small no plate will have small/ illegal lettering Chances of getting pulled 4 a dodgy front are minimal, but don't hold me 2 that Quote
Ross Mac Posted June 7, 2007 Author Posted June 7, 2007 The lettering would have to be smaller but I'm fairly confident I'd be ok . I just wonder how I'd fit it to the bumper so that it still looked good? Want to avoid sticking it directly onto the paint Quote
stuey Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 a small plate WILL earn you a £60 fine and 3 points......!! Quote
M350ZB Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 If its a uk car, your gonna have to take off the number plate backing and somehow attach it to the bumper, i got a small plate on my mg zr, never been pulled, but think ill leave my 350z standard plates, just gonna get personalised ones, cant wait, roll on my 21st, lol ! M350ZB Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 my MG never failed an M.O.T, had two since i have had it, allright my plate ant tiny tiny, but its a nice small size, how ever my lettering it only slightly smaller i think, but defo smaller, never been pulled or nothing ? Quote
stuey Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 well it is somethin that u can be prosicuted for..........!! Quote
Liam's Z Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 it wont pass an m.o.t either...!! Really difficult switching plates b4 an MOT Since when did they start dishing out points??? Also why do cars require front plate yet a bike don't??? Quote
stuey Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 it wont pass an m.o.t either...!! Really difficult switching plates b4 an MOT Since when did they start dishing out points??? Also why do cars require front plate yet a bike don't??? you get points because its illegal..... a number plate has to be a certain size with numbers and letters spaced correctly............. bikes dont have plates on the front coz where are you gonna put them............ althought bikes did used to have front number plates years ago...... Quote
Trev-the-Rev Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Also why do cars require front plate yet a bike don't??? They stopped putting front plates on bikes to reduce injuries to pedestrians in accidents. Since the front plate used to be fixed vertically, I think you'll get the picture Quote
Liam's Z Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Stuey I think your wrong about the points: "Offences may result in any or all of the following: A fine of up to £1,000 The registration mark may be WITHDRAWN The vehicle may FAIL the MOT test" Quote
Stew Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 I once done with misrepresentation of a number plate when I had a fancy letter style on my little Saxo. I was given 28 days to change it and get an MOT station to verify it was legal. No charge was placed and no fine. Quote
Stew Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Oh and I was told that only the traffic police can charge you for this. Not sure if that is true though. Quote

I was given 28 days to change it and get an MOT station to verify it was legal. No charge was placed and no fine. Exact same thing happened to me on my previous car!!! If the rears ok then you'll probably get away with the front. That's until all these fancy money making cameras come out. Excuse being, we need your registration legal to help us find your vehicle if it's stolen, Bullsh1t..... Real reason, we need your number plate legal so our cameras can catch you an dish out hefty fines Quote
M350ZB Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Like i said never had no probs with mine, all depends how much you take the p*** i suppose, mine is small on my mg, but letters are standard type writing, just a bit smaller, all gravy baby ! Quote
Ross Mac Posted June 9, 2007 Author Posted June 9, 2007 Think I've decided to go down the standard rout for now. Used to have German style pressed metal plates on my golf and got loads of hassle for them from the traffic cops. Must have been pulled 6 or 7 times at least - probably had something to do with the white front, white rear combo.... Quote
