fault codes p1273 and p1283

I gather this means I'm running lean, could this be caused by an air leak? I am thinking exhaust most likely?

If you have both in the same time, than it's more likely to be one of the last 3 of these (official causes for this fault code):

• Air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor 1
  
• Air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor 1 heater
  
• Fuel pressure
  
• Fuel injector
  
• Intake air leaks
  

So yes, probably air leak (or low fuel pressure, but check for air-leaks first).

Thanks for the info. I have cleared the codes for now, will see if it comes back and then check for intake leaks (after the airflow sensor I presume, guess I am looking for split hoses etc?)

No problem. Yes check your system after the air flow sensor, search for split hoses or a gasket leak ( any unusual hissing noise).

Well the codes come back every second trip or so. It now sounds like I have an exhaust leak which is getting slowly worse.

Trying to stick my head under the car it appears to be forward of the y-pipe, but difficult to tell with the undertray in place. Could this be the problem or just coincidence?

If you have an exhaust leak, than it's can confuse the O2 (A/F) sensor, so yes get that sorted first.

Got the exhaust leak fixed, replaced the triangular gaskets between manifold and cats. Engine check light came back on this morning after staying off for a day. just 1283 this time so I'm hoping the ecu is relearning after running rich for a while...
