Sat Nav and audio system upgrade - help wanted

Hi All,

I've just been looking through the forum and found bits and pieces of information here and there but just really want to start a thread and get all the answer I would like.

Basically I would like to install a satnav/audio unit into the vacant space (where the lid opens up). I have a few questions about what I need to do this and how to go about it.

Firstly I am just looking at Halfords units but I understand I'd need some kind of mounting bracket so the that unit fits flush in the space, no idea where to get one from that is the right style and shape?

Next I'm wondering how easy it is it fit in? Are there tons of wires that need to be plumbed in to make connect with the speakers, phone bluetooth buttons on the steering wheel etc.

Thats all my questions for now but I'm sure that I'll think of more in time .....

Thanks in advance

Oliver

Hi buddy, I don't think you'll get an off the shelf unit into the cubby hole - you would need to replace the factory HU.

A few people on here have put tablets etc into the cubby though and linked them up to the audio, which seems to work quite well. Sure someone will be along shortly with more expertise than I have  One word of advice I do have is don't buy Kenwood! My unit works ok and has good features/nav but the user interface is very sluggish and the unit is a bit flaky.

RT Biscuit was looking to manufacture a system for the cubby recently I believe so maybe worth sending him a PM too.
