Hi everyone I've always paid 0ver £400 for my car tax but i just had my reminder and for some reason its dropped down to £200. Just wondering if anyone knew why and if this has happened to anyone else

What year is your car? Is it a UK model?

No its an import 54 plate but ive always paid over £400 and now it has suddenly changed. not sure wether its a mistake or not

i think you've been paying too much in recent years.

 

I was told it's post 2006 that costs 400 smackers. I've just bought a years tax at £435. painful

Just to make ye feel better about ye're selves - I get to pay 1566Euro car tax for the Zed per year (+ another 1566Euro for my DD Murano) over here in Ireland for the privilege of driving on some of the worst roads in Europe.

Its a mistake that you've been paying so much this long!

 

Only post 2006 cars should be paying £400+

 

Maybe see if you can get a refund??

I got told because it was only registered in the uk in 2007 i had to pay the higher tax band

Its not a mistake. Up to last April any car including imports registered in the uk after 2006 had to pay the higher amount. They changed this to year of manufacture last April so the imports that got caught up in this had the price dropped. Unfortunately you are not due a refund. This has been covered tonnes on here!
