Boot Catch

Anyone having a problem oppening the boot? like up-to three attempts to open in most cases. I remember this being covered off before - did a seacrh under boot release,, boot problem, and boot! but no joy. Doing my head in!

not heard of the button being a problem but have heard of the springs going. Either side of the boot lid is a enclosed spring in a rubber sleeve. Put a couple of pennies under the spring to condense the spring more. This then helps the boot open.

Do you have a spoiler?

Mine was fine until I had the spoiler fitted, have to lift at the same time as pressing the catch.

Thanks M13KYF, it's when you press the button it sort of uncatches but something is locking in the centre catch preventing you from opening up, wondered if it could be something simple like a bit of WD40?

 

Interesting D4V3 GT4 - Only had a spoiler fitted fairly recently, but seem to remember having this problem before but not as noticeable?! Why / how would this make a difference?

it's the extra weight of the spoiler. Also you can ugrade the struts to help take the weight of the spoiler when the boot is fully open.

 

I defo try the two pennies traick. Only tales two minutes to sort.

BTW Leenx this would also help you Failing that new strut's may be req'd,,, iirc some people have had these replaced under warranty

yep the packers on the spring works spot on I couldnt afford the pennies I used washers

Sorry guys, I'm not quite sure where you mean - anyone got any illustrations? No worries if not as I'll have a proper read of this thread later this evening! BTW I'm having a HKS delimiter fitted this weekend only problem is was originally quoted £150 all in now it's gonna be more like £280!! The place I'm getting it done is called DSA (DSA Autommotives- they have a website) showed me their project which i think they said was a twin turbo 350z - apart from all the stickers on the outside it looks like an ordinary Zed - have a look on their website if you get a chance? Bet it's fu**ing amazing!!

ya can't miss them. Just looks like 3cm long black rubber door stops. They unscrew. inside youll find the spring.

PS the price you are getting charged for fitting the delimiter had better include the delimiter itself, as it's waaaay too high!

How do I remove the weight Liam? I remeber someone else doing this a while back but I didn't have it then!

Easy,,, remove the inner boot plastic using a flat head screwdriver working round it popping off all retaining lugs...

 

Once that's off,,, directly in the middle you will see the weight... Couple of nuts and it's off

take the plastic cover off the back of the boot and you'll see it. just unscrew it. Not that it made much difference to mine, still falls on my head

right update - unscrewed the struts played around with them put them back and job done - sorted.

Arghhhhh! Back to square one. By the way how do you pull those plastic coverings which hold the springs in where you then put the pennies in? I gave up on that bit as they were impossible to take off?

Just had this accepted under warranty and there are nissan part numbers for the modification on the system

 

BTW ppl also check your wiper blade arms for corrosion this also a known problem Front and Rear
