mylesmcg Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 well that didn't work any other suggestions? Quote
chippy Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Might sound stupid, but have you tried turning the HU volume right up? I note that the 5024 only has a 2v preout which isn't much! Did you connect the blue/white HU wire, that switches the amp switch on cable? Maybe the amp isn't turning on if you haven't! Quote
mylesmcg Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 yea turned it right up and there isn't even any fuss noise if you no what i mean is the blue/white on the 674 or the loom that came with the hu Quote
chippy Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 On the HU loom & ICT cable......have a look at page 4 of the Kenwood installation manual. It's at the bottom of the page. There's a blue/white wire from the kenwood wiring that needs to be connected the blue/white wire on the 674 loom. That'll send the signal that switches the amp on. Check out half way down this thread, for pics:- http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=19787 Quote
mylesmcg Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 do i need to ground it like the pioneer in that thread? Quote
chippy Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Try it without. I found mine worked fine without a ground wire, but only found that out after I'd dicked about soldering ground wires in! As you already said that you have power you shouldn't need too. has the blue/white wire sorted it? Quote
mylesmcg Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 not get a chance to check til 12.30 so i'll let you know. you'll be a legend if it works mate lol Quote
mylesmcg Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 lol ur a genius my friend. sound now working. next problem steering wheel controls not working Quote
chippy Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Hmmm......can't really help here as it's pretty much a plug and play.... One end into the HU external remote input and the other into the white connector on the black box. Sure you've definately got the right connector? Might be worth phoning ICT (InCarTech - 01392 829435) and checking that it's the right one for your HU. I found that I had the wrong one for my Pioneer. Quote
mylesmcg Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 will do thanks. any chance you know the best way of routing the usb cable to the cubby hole behind the handbrake? Quote
Rob_Quads Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Try it without. I found mine worked fine without a ground wire, but only found that out after I'd dicked about soldering ground wires in! Its best not to run the unit like this. It will be getting a ground signal via the RCA sheild as its ground but this means the unit will be pulling voltage across the RCAs which is not great for keeping as clean signal. Quote
chippy Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 will do thanks. any chance you know the best way of routing the usb cable to the cubby hole behind the handbrake? I ran mine through the cubby down the hole and then through the left of the console, so that it pops out behind the passenger seat. Then feed it under the edge of the console as you move forwards, then poke it up behind where the aircon controls are and up to the headunit. It looked virtually impossible to feed it through the console itself. As Rob said, well worth popping a ground cable in too. Quote
mylesmcg Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 got every put back in place then read about grounding it so gonna do that either tonight or tomorrow along with trying to sort the steering wheel controls. i put the usb into the cubby above the hu and looks good thanks for all your help guys. much appreciated Quote
mylesmcg Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 ok now that i've been using it i have another problem lol can't watch dvds on it. the screen just says "parking off". i can hear the audio but screen just shows the error. i take it i must have to do something with the wiring...but what? Quote
Rob_Quads Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Pure guess but have you connected up the hand brake sensor. If not best wiring it to ground which will allow you to watch video anytime Quote
mylesmcg Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 nope lol complete n00b at this stuff if you haven't guessed. will try that. thanks again Quote
mylesmcg Posted November 4, 2009 Author Posted November 4, 2009 don't know bout anyone else but i have 2 large gaps above and below the hu and the new unit seems quieter but not much. still need to play about with equaliser though Quote
mylesmcg Posted November 9, 2009 Author Posted November 9, 2009 anyone know how to get the steering wheel controls working? i have the correct adaptor but don't know were to plug it in. tried putting it into the remote control wire but that didn't work Quote
Rob_Quads Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Have you ground the unit? You will need to plug the loom into the car loom hands free bit (there should be 3 white plugs) and the loom into the head unit remote control connector Quote
mylesmcg Posted November 9, 2009 Author Posted November 9, 2009 yea when i was connecting the parking sensor wire to the ground i ran another wire to the bodywork. which loom to which loom? 674 to the kenwood loom? Quote
Rob_Quads Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 You will need to connect both i.e. Nissan Loom -> ICT Loom -> Kenwood Head Unit Remote Input Quote
