Warranty work knocking steering collum

Hi Everyone.

Bought a 350 with a limited warranty :(, basically engine gearbox and transmission and yep you guessed I’ve got a fault with what I think is the steering column,

The noise sounds exactly like driving a car with excessive play on the cvs, previous car had that fault easy fix. On the 350 though sounds like it’s from the steering column, took it back to the garage and they have changed what looks to be an elbow joint between the column and rack, also some recall work on rear axle (grease or something), they also changed the rear springs saying the noise could be travelling down the chassis.

Took it to my local Nissan garage and they said replace the column and that would fix it, looking on few sites a couple of people have said just tightening the tensioner from under the drivers foot well fix this problem as it just loosens after a while.

Any help advice really stuck with this one, has been back to garage 4 times and they basically given up now trying to get me to part ex at a big loss.

Thanks Leon

Hi thanks for reply,

Evanshalshaw :(, i know the mistake now,

Dealership i went to was the darlington nissan.

Also noticed when the engine is off and you have bonnet open, you can replicate the noise by moving the wheel.

thanks

Details of the ajustment.... This sounding possible

"steering rack pre-load adjustment",

"there is a nut that holds the rack together; and its called an "end cover assembly" its under the boot; and its torque-spec is actually a range - 58.9 - 73.5nm; the tech told me on the phone that they need to increase the torque until the clicking goes away, and the play is taken out..."

Going to have a tinker later, anybody heard of this fix\problem?

Leon
