Land Rover Tomcat on Top Gear. Here's me in mine...

Some of you will know that I used to race Land Rovers a few years ago, so was interested to see Tomcats featured on Top Gear at the weekend. This was Hamster in Iceland racing a Kayak.

 

I used to own one for a few years and competed in the Northern Off Road Club and did a couple of British Opens.

 

Great fun, but hard work. I now prefer trackdays as being something less competitive and less mud.

 

Here's me at Matt Lee's Superspecial, (figure of 8 track). At the time this was the only track in the uk, as all other CompetitiVe Safari Racing is stages like rallying. At the time I was running a 4.6 litre V8 producing about 300 bhp and oodles of torque.

Yes I have a desire to get muddy with it..

 

Must admit, watching Hamster on Top Gear did start me thinking.

 

BTW I don't know how but I managed to come 4th on that day and that picture was also featured in Land Rover Owner Magazine.
