water based and oil based paint?

As far as i know (but im no expert) its either water based paint or solvent thats used these days. Pretty much all body shops are meant to use water based paint as its better for the environment but the body shop i use still uses solvent as it dries quicker and is easier to use.

Any way back to your question  , as the paints use the same pigments they should be fine to use over each other although some would say that if the car was sprayed using water based paint then water based should be used to get a better colour match.

I think some of the better workshops do use water based now, the same as the manufacturers. The couple of places I use do use water based paint. IIRC, the water based are a bit harder to match.
