How big an issue is the oil consumption with 06/07 cars?

Hi

 

I have been reading stories about people having not small but big issues with oil consumption with the 2006-2007(296bhp) cars (not the very late 57 reg cars which had an 80% new 309bhp engine). Has anyone had any big issues with their 06/07 car or no more oil consumption than any other previous car they have owned?

 

All cars will use oil such as a litre perhaps every 1000 miles which is absolutely reasonable...more than this is not. How do the earlier pre-2006 engines compare in terms of oil consumption? How often/how many miles do you all need to use a litre of oil to top up approx?
