What does this bit do and is it important?

Hi all,

 

Just wondered what the purpose of this bit (rear floor partition?) that sits between the rear stay brackets (that the W brace bolts to) does?  Mine is pretty rusted, probably can't be salvaged.  Replacement isn't cheap (is anything?), so just wondered how important it is

Serves very little purpose and not an MOT requirement, so best to just remove and discard.

However, if you want a rust free one then I have a few in stock.
