Sparks flying out of one exhaust tip only

Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the right place to be posting this so if it's not I am sorry.

I installed my Plenum spacer recently and so far it's been giving me a bit of hassle, last night I started the car up and have it a few revs (to see if a previous error would come up again) and sparks started coming out of one exhaust pipe only. I have two japspeed pipes which obviously have a cat each. Do you think one of the cats has gone or would it be something more serious?

Thank you.

which exhaust do you have? Is it true dual? If it's not then the fact it's only out of one side is almost irrelevant. As above it could be the exhaust packing, especially if it's fibreglass packing that Japspeed use.

The exhaust packing in your backbox has probably given up the ghost and disintegrating or possibly cats, are they standard or hfc's?

Bit of a noob but I'm not sure what you mean by standard or hfc's

It's a japspeed exhaust, it was fitted by the previous owner.

Standard catalytic converters or high flow cats, do you have seperate back boxes.

I would imagine from your description you have seperate, it will be your exhaust packing/wadding disentergrating and catching fire, nothing to do with your plenum spacer etc Japspeed are budget exhausts so materials used are cheap.

Oh right ok, as far as I am aware they are standard cats and they are separate back boxes as far as I'm aware.

do you remember which it looks like of these two? It shouldn't make a massive difference as it's probably the exhaust wadding as jetpilot says, however if it's the bottom one it might be a bit more telling about the cause of the issue.

take it off and fit a better quality cat back exhaust. cobra tend to be good at a good price. buy japspeed, buy twice.
