  1. Spotted a red one in Queen's Terrace at lunchtime today - stunning!
  2. Got a call from Nissan GB yesterday. Very sorry etc but can't reimburse me for a failure not covered by warranty. Predictable I guess, but thought it was worth a go.
  3. Yes, mine is a September 2007 GT with the 313ps engine. In my letter to Nissan I've suggested that, in the absence of any other apparent cause, it was probably a faulty aircon compressor belt which failed catastrophically and took the alternator/power steering belt with it. As you say, very interesting to hear if anyone else has had a similar failure to Carpe and myself.......
  4. My Z was bought second hand from a Nissan dealer when 6 months old. I thought it was was worth writing to Nissan in the circumstances. As you say, just have to wait and see how they respond.
  5. Just noticed this thread when reading through the Warranty Issues part of the Forum following a similar failure on my Z a week ago. Circumstances were a bit different in that it happened while the car was stationary at the time. Turned the key, started the car, charging light came on, no power steering, and voltmeter not moving. Opened the bonnet to find the smaller aux belt that drives the aircon compressor totally shredded and the larger aux belt that drives the power steering, alternator etc frayed on one side and loose on its pulleys. Had the car picked up and taken to my dealer who could find no underlying fault, so replaced the belts and road tested the car. All fine. No formal warranty claim possible as the belts are not covered and nothing else was found to be wrong, but I have written to Nissan GB asking for an 'ex gratia' refund of my costs given the failure occurred without any warning, the car is less than 2 years old, has done less than 10,000 miles in total, and has covered less than 4,000 miles since its P1 Service at which the belts were a check item (and I've got the ticked off service sheet). Will see what happens.
  6. Aye, none of the "chuckies-and-tar-last-two-days-max" repairs the rest of us have to put up with!
  7. No worries - should have sussed you were joking from your location!
  8. The roads in Abz are a complete joke just now, especially with low profile alloys I understand the Cooncil has bought a fancy new pothole repairing machine which is certainly going to have its work cut out. The Cooncil's "Online Fault Reporting System" is at this link: http://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/xfr_FaultForm.asp?ID=3 I used it to complain about a really bad moon-crater-sized pothole at the junction of Baillieswells Road and Ladyhill Road a few weeks ago and it was fixed 3 days later. May have been a coincidence but I doubt it. Liberal use of words like "dangerous", "liability", "safety hazard", and "claims" is recommended. Definitely worth a go if there's a bad pothole on Cooncil maintained roads that causes you particular grief!
  9. Sorry JT - local oily slang for the Canadian owned company "Talisman". I'm so used to calling them that, that I sometimes write it by accident!
  10. Silver coupe JL* *** taking the roundabout past the Taliban office and heading down Fonthill (Thursday 12.30).
  11. Managed to get my Z out of the drive last night for the first time since the snow! Had borrowed the missus's 4x4 during the day but she needed it back at night and I needed to go back to work. Our street still had a lot of snow on it (Cooncil never put a plough or gritter round it ), so I had some fun getting onto the main road. Not so bad this morning after thaw. Don't know about anyone else but I reckon the Z is the worst car I've ever driven in snow and ice. Just getting it to move is near impossible. Still, only acouple of weeks a year
  12. Cool I was on holiday in Dubai in October and didn't see one Zed! Whereabouts was the Automarket?
  13. Silver coupe turning into Marathon's offices at Hill of Rubislaw about 7.45am today.
  14. Agreed, loads of them about here now and there could be another one soon as I've got a mate who has had enough of his RX-8 (surprisingly unreliable) and has a Z on the shortlist of replacements
  15. Had mine done on Monday this week. I had never heard of the recall but it was picked up a few weeks ago when the car went in for its first PI service and the dealer ran the reg and VIN No. through the Nissan database which apparently records if your car has been done. Dealer needed the car for a whole day - apparently the slave cylinder mod involved dropping the gearbox. Also, don't forget to bring in your spare key when you get the work done as all keys need coded to the new BCM. Dealer forgot to mention this and I need to go back to get my spare key coded.
  16. Z had its first service (P1) the other week. Dealer comments as follows: 1. Evans Halshaw (Aberdeen): Didn't return several calls when trying to book it in. Eventually got through to what appeared to be a central service booking office in England. Informed me that they couldn't take car for a month. Said they'd call back when I asked them if this delay could affect my warranty. Didn't call back....at which point I gave up. 2. Mackie Motors (Arbroath): Polite; helpful; car booked in for the following week with promise it would be done first thing to let me get up the road; price quoted without being asked; dropped me in town centre and picked me up again by courtesy car; car washed and hoovered; invoice gone through in detail before I paid. Happy to use them again despite 100 mile-ish round trip.
  17. No problem. Cost was £143.84 plus VAT all in. Of that, £79.80 was for carrying out the P1 and £49 was for oil.
  18. Aye, I had a wander round and there were a couple of fishmongers flogging 'genuine Arbroath smokies' down by the harbour. Thought of buying some to take up the road but didn't want to have to fumigate the Z after I got home!
  19. Nope, it's a guy called Jamie Oag who punted an oil service company recently - see following EE article: http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/Article.aspx/831674 Took the Z down to Arbroath today for its P1. Mackies were great. Friendly, helpful, ran me into town, picked me up later and car was washed and hoovered. Have to go back to get two Nissan manufacturer recalls done under warranty when the parts come in (slave cylinder and can't remember the other one), but only an hour down the road so no big deal. Thet also confirmed that they have a LOT of Abz based Nissan customers...... EH.... 'nuff said.

  21. Went round by the street in the photos when "just passing" at the weekend but I guess the Veyron was safely locked away in a garage by that time! I also heard that the Enzo was a trade-in for the Veyron and went away in the same lorry.
  22. Guess here was that it might be Stewart Milne, who's living at Woodlands while his new mega-pad gets built at Bieldside.......
  23. I'll let you know how I get on at Mackies but first impressions on the phone were very good - polite, helpful, happy to do my car first in the day if I'm there sharp so I can get back up the road, happy to talk about which oil etc and offered me a price before I'd even asked. Thoughts on EH unprintable Good advice from you guys. By the way, an email was doing the rounds yesterday with photos of Abz's first Bugatti Veyron being unloaded off a lorry in what looked to me like the Woodlands development although some folk thought it could be Kepplestone.
  24. OK, here's the latest! Eventually reluctantly contacted EH who had failed to return two of my calls. Appears to be a call centre in England that deals with their service bookings and the best they could do was early October - i.e. over a month after the due service date! I asked if this had warranty implications; they said they'd check and call back - no call. I then called Nissan GB direct who were a bit non-commital; might do, might not, better to use another dealer to be on the safe side and here's some numbers to call. After commenting that I was far from happy with EH , I checked out some of the suggestions and opted for Mackie Motors in Arbroath who seem to have a good reputation (including a good ref on the Forum). In complete contrast to EH, they couldn't have been more helpful when I called and I'm booked in for next week. They told me that they had a lot of customers taking time off work and travelling from Abz for servicing. Can't imagine why..... I did think of the decent independent route (such as Carden or Japerformance as suggested) and, as Stew said, this should be OK per the EC Block Exemption legislation provided that the independent is VAT registered, sticks to the manufacturer service schedule, uses original parts only, and stamps up the service book. However, just to be on the safe side, I've decided to stick with main dealers until the warranty is up.
  25. Thanks for your thoughts mate; you're not the only person to have had bad experiences there from asking around at work, but I'm pretty much stuffed by the warranty. According to their website they appear to have two showrooms that do Nissan; one at Lang Stracht and the other at Craigshaw Drive.
