  1. I did it on both my Zeds - I figure there can't be any harm in adding more cold air to the filter area - esp as its not a straight run so there's no water ingress.

First Zeds CAI on a standard bumper to a popcharger (& Kinetix plenum to RSR exhaust) -

Present Zeds CAI on an Amuse front to the Supercharger induction -

  2. Has anyone seen/heard from Zmanalex lately? I have paid for a engine and gear box. He said he would get it shipped on Monday but I haven't received any confirmation at all!?!? I went through him because he seemed credible. hope he is ok....Has anyone had any problems Dealing with him?

Really don't think you'll have any problems with Alex - I've had quite a few parts from him and he's always been top notch - very knowledgable and has given me a dig out on a couple of occasions. Top man and an excellent trader.

  3. True duals seem to have much less noise than single pipes particularly when you add decats.

I changed from high flow Cats to reasonated decats recently on my Invidia True dual and the difference is hardly noticeable.

However on my last Zed when I put reasonated decats and Y pipe on the RSR exhaust you couldn't hear yourself think.

Re Decats - reasonated is def the way to go - less noise and vibration.

  4. I like the 300ZX and that looks like a nice example but its rather old hat in comparision to the 350Z. Faster in a straight line - yeah - but in all other aspects it would loose for me.

A Boxster "S" might be faster than a bog standard NA Zed but for the money I firmly believe you'd get a better example Zed.

If you want a faster 350Z for reasonable money - add a supercharger, better suspension and a better diff - IMHO its hard to beat.

  5. TBH if your buying a Z because of its performance I would look elsewhere personally. all comes down to budget aswell

    Like where?

I'm pretty happy with my 420bhp RWD SC Zed - if theres a faster RWD coupe out there for the money I'd like to know what it is?

  6. Just to make ye feel better about ye're selves - I get to pay 1566Euro car tax for the Zed per year (+ another 1566Euro for my DD Murano) over here in Ireland for the privilege of driving on some of the worst roads in Europe.

  7. I doubt it would do much to effect the handling of the car, unless you went for a flat undertray/floor under the entire car. With all the bits and bobs under the car exposed, the air would be way too turbulent to be cleaned up with a simple lil bolt on diffuser. I could ask an aero guy at work, but i think i know what he will say.

Yep - I didn't buy the diffuser expecting any performance benefits - either way (good or bad) its fairly negligible.

I was going for a track car "look" - the other bits I've recently added (SC overhaul + decat + remap to 420bhp, Kaaz diff, R888's, Performance friction floating discs) would obviously have a much bigger impact on performance but you don't really get to see those.

  8. Just weighed one of my Rota GTR 19x9 wheels and it came to 22.4kg (with falken fk452 fitted)

Does anyone know how this compares to standard rays, LMGT4's, or any other after market wheels?

    Thanks

My rear 19inch LMGT's weighted very similar (23kg) with F1 Eagle tyres. I guess a more accurate assessment of the rim would be weights without tyres though on similar width rims but the fact the Rotas get so close on weight is impressive - though theres no doubting the superior quality of the LMGT's (I've had both).

  9. I wouldn't go lower than an offset of 12 with the Rota GTR's on the Zed even with arch rolling. They will stick out too much if you go any stronger on offset. I'm running an offset of 18rear and 15 front and its just about right. My mates running the Rota GTR's on a 12 offset and they are sticking out past the arch slightly.

Don't bother with spacers - just get your required offset to begin with.

  10. Nice meeting you too mate. A good mini-meet for the Irish club.

That short shifter is def a good mod - I'll have to add it to my list.

Pity you couldn't drive my Zed to anywhere near its potential - I only realised after you'd gone that it was left on my lower 380bhp "safe" map and not the 400bhp + map - not that it would probably have made much difference.

While I'm on - thanks to Alex for my new performance friction and DS 2500 combo - along with my refurb of the brembos and brake fluid change - the braking has improved enormously:-

  11. I used to own a Ford Racing Puma which was engineered to pop and crackle on the over-run and that was with the Cat fitted.

I guess its just a matter of slightly overfueling onto a hot exhaust.

When I stuck on a CAI/popcharger/Kinetix plenum/decat/Y pipe and RSR onto my last NA Zed and didn't touch the mapping I was also getting popping from the exhaust on demand - it was just a matter of putting the foot down and suddenly backing off - the excess fuel would travel back through the non restricted exhaust and ignite along the way. Obviously not the best way for ultimate performance to ignore mapping/aftermarket ECU but it did sound cool.

  12. How do you calculate your 0-60 times from the 1/4 mile print outs?

Print outs from my last 1/4 mile only give times to distances and mph at 1000ft, 1/8m and 1/4m.

Is there a way to estimate from these?

AFAIK they have some sort of radar off the start to estimate the 0-60 time. I've run 1/4 miles where the only figures given were 0-60 and the 1/4 mile time and run 1/4 miles where I got the 60ft time, 1/8 mile time, 1/4 mile time and terminal speed but they haven't given 0-60 so I guess depends on the technology the operators use.

In any case 0-60 is a bit of a nonsense - I get a faster 0-60 if I leave the Zed in 2nd and bring it to the redline to clear 60mph but a slower 1/4 mile than if I changed up just at 55-58mph due to the power/torque curve of the SC Zed. I'd be much more interested in the 60ft times (to see how the Zed is hooking up the power to the tarmac) and the actual 1/4 mile times (much better indicator of performance than 0-60times).

I'd love to have a longer run though as the SC Zed is really coming into its stride towards the end of the 1/4 mile - the final pull through 4th gear (up to around terminal speed of 114mph) to the line is just amazing - I'd love to get figures on a standing km.

  13. Could be worse tho....

Look at their new STi..... :blackeye::blackeye::blackeye:

    ........

How could a reputable car manufacturer get it so wrong - you'd think lessons would've been learnt from the bug eye STI - which would now look absolutely gorgeous alongside that POS - its like they gave a 12 year old a KIA and told them to modify it.

  14. Corrupted map?! :scare: still have to see your z man.

Well when I say corrupted - it had defaulted to a previous map rather than the one I had last mapped it on.

Its been in Couture Auto for the past two weeks - feel free to drop in and have a gander - I'm sure Nick won't mind. I hope to pick it up on Friday - so you could take it for a spin at that stage if you like.

  15. .......Crrikey, NA and 5.1? Just how much was it making NA?

Never dynoed my first (import ST) Zed. It was just running breathing mods like Kinetix plenum, CAI with popcharger, decats, Y pipe and an RSR exhaust. It felt a better car to launch than the SC Zed when it was running the OE diff as well - just hooked up better - I did about 10 drag runs and the 0-60 ranged from 5.1secs to 5.4 secs depending on how long I was willing to hang onto 2nd gear.

If you really want to get into the 4's for 0-60 though I would say the first purchase should be a better diff/softer tyres and then chase more power. The Kazz LSD on my present Zed has to be the best mod I've ever put on a car. I dynoed the Zed at the last 1/4 day and was down by 30whp (map got corrupted on the Utec/since sorted) yet Zed was .7sec quicker down the 1/4 mile than with OE diff. My terminal speed ranged between 111mph-114mph which would indicate that 12's are possible if I get my sh1t together.

  16. ..........

His sig says APS TT kit so I think he does

How the hell did I miss that? When the OP mentioned putting back on the orig Cats and exhaust I just presumed he was NA - why would you consider putting back on OE cats and OE exhaust on such a monster? I would have thought the combination of a true dual and the turbos muffling the sound wouldn't lead to a loud exhaust? My SC set-up with a true dual and decats is way quieter than my previous NA set-up.

  17. I have them on my Amuse but as you say Jay - the big issue is the import cost which is most of the price of the splitter. Good opportunity here for Chilli Red or similar to import a batch and sell them on here minus the ridiculous shipping cost. I'd be up for a couple of spares - they do sit quite low esp when you're on coilovers with the Amuse.

    :headhurt:

I think they'd look well on either Nismo V1 or V2.
