  1. The engines are solid, but there are a few things to look out for at that mileage - check the service history is up to date and that the 'high-mileage' service intervals have been followed. Most of that mileage has probably been motorway cruising (difficult to get that high in 4 years without using the motorway a lot!) so that should mean minium wear and tear to the mechanicals (engine, gearbox, diff) - if any of these don't feel smooth as new, walk away. Also check the expensive 'consumables' like tyres, brake pads and discs (a new set all round could set you back almost £1k) and find out when the clutch was last changed (they last 40-50k) also check the exhaust for rust...

     

    Despite what's been said, I think you'd be *very* lucky to find a Z for £7k, whatever the mileage. And if you want one in good condition which you won't have to fork out a fortune to make road worthy, you'll have to be prepared to pay a little more than rock-bottom.

    Different procedures for US, EU/UK and JDM.

     

    You've posted the US procedure, GIXXER has posted the UK method (I think?)... and I've not heard of an easy method of manually programming the JDM keys...

    Not really a Z specific question but maybe someone can help... I was about to install a new alarm to my g/f's car at the weekend, but upon opening the dash up, I've found a fully wired in Clifford g5 alarm. She never knew it was there and the previous owner didn't supply any key-fobs...

     

    After further inspection (and checking various installation guides/etc.) I'm pretty sure it's been left in 'valet' mode. I imagine there's a good reason for this (such as the thing doesn't work!), but I'd like to have a go and see if I can get it running.

     

    ...So I've picked up a couple of suitable 2nd hand key fobs of ebay which need programming - apparently I can do this with 'CliffNet' and a cable to the alarm?

     

    I've downloaded CliffNet off the Clifford website, but still need the connection cable... I know it's a long shot, but does anyone local to Herts have a suitable CliffNet cable that I could borrow to try this out?

  4. See how the ad goes, you might not need the micra adaptor, if someone offers up a fully wired PAC adaptor to ISO block.

     

    If you find it difficult getting hold of a PAC adaptor, you can use the micra adaptor without the PAC unit, but it is a bit of a 'bodge' as you need to be careful to keep the headunit volume only on the lowest settings, because the BOSE amp will make it sound very loud! (that said, I ran my stereo like this for a year... :scare:)

    The lead you have is for a head unit with all four speakers on phono plugs at the back (usually pre-amp outputs). It may be suitable for some stereo's which offer a mid-level output suitable for the BOSE unit, but for most that I've seen the pre-amp output will be too low.

     

    Best way is to use a PAC ROEM NIS2 to correctly ramp down the output and have this connected to a nissan micra ISO wiring harness (like this one: Click here)

     

    Might be worth posting up in the 'wanted' section here, to see if anyone is selling a pre-wired PAC ROEM NIS2, to save you having to do the wiring?

  6. Could be interested in the Kenwood unit Steve as my BOSE unit has just packed up on my newly purchased Z :-(

     

    Is the price (£35) Inclusive of delivery and I presume by ISO leads you mean it has the relevant connectors to adapt the old ones?

     

    Yes, £35 posted for the Kenwood. It has an ISO lead ie. from the unit to a black ISO plug.

     

    To connect it to you Z you'll need a "nissan micra ISO lead" (halfords name) which will go from the Z plugs to an ISO block. Ideally you'll also need a PAC ROEM NIS2 adaptor to ramp down the output from the Kenwood, or any other new headunit you buy, to make it suitable for correct amplification from the BOSE amplifier which is hidden away under the lining of your car boot (although this is not absolutely essential if it's only for temporary use - I ran mine without one for a year... just means you have to leave the radio set to a low volume setting, because the amplifier will boost it a lot!).

     

    Also, don't get worried about having a JDM import, they can be a lot better value for money than UK examples and if you're lucky you'll be on the lower-rate 'PLG' tax band for next year (£185) rather than the £400+ that the UK ones have to pay... I have a JDM too, as do a lot of people on here - loads of info in the JDM forum...

  7. most important is to take the oil cap off and check for mayo (this would indicate a costly head gasket).........then walk away ;)

     

    I'd be concerned about exactly this. Definately take a mechanically minded person along to look at the car with you. I have seen in the past someone leaving the lid off the coolant tank to try to cover up a head gasket failure on an old rover... This lets the excess pressure leak out through the expansion tank, rather than bursting a hose...but it can't hide the temperature increase.

     

    Hopefully it's a genuine mistake & simple air lock, but either way don't buy this car without the fault being rectified and the temperature coming down to normal (below half-way).

  8. What do you need it for if you're not concerned with it's condition??

     

    My JDM BOSE will possibly be up for sale in Jan. It has the whole range of interesting plugs on the back, but the CD deck is on the way out - so I've just added a switchable AUX connector through the tape deck. PM me for details.

  9. What went wrong with your bose stereo? Some problems can be fixed, some are more difficult...

     

    As for replacement - pretty straight forward, but the main thing you'll need is a PAC ROEM-NIS2 adaptor (often find these on ebay, but you're local car audio store should be able to get hold of one) and single din facia.

  10. As the title really...

     

    For various reasons I want to keep a stock BOSE system in my JDM for the moment, and I'm getting tired of the band-expander method with no RDS and poor tuning on the JDM bose... so just wondering if this has ever been done successfully...

     

    I've done a fair few searches, but can't find anyone saying they've actually got a UK BOSE system working in a JDM... A few say they've done the swap and hit the 'SECURE' display when they install the UK unit... then wonder about getting it decoded and eventually post up that they've gone aftermarket instead...

     

    The problem as I see it is that the UK units are coded to the NATS security system, but JDMs don't have the same secutiry system, so is it even possible to get a decoded UK bose unit to work - or will it throw a fit when it can't find the NATS system?

     

    Anyway, thoughts please?

    Just bought my first Zed :yahoo: and a radar detector may prove very useful ;).

    However, I can't find much useful info. on the web for this model.

    Is it a UK model?

    Does it work well?

    How long does it run for when charged?

    Oh, and is it still available for sale?

    Hi,

    I'll tell you what I can. It's a true radar/laser detector (ie. not a GPS device) and works from either 12v cig. lighter or can run from batteries (I've included a long enough cord to reach the Z's lighter socket).

     

    As for it's use - it's quite reasonable outside of town centres and picks up functioning gatso cameras and should pick up speed detector vans/hand held radar/laser guns (can't confirm as I 've not been zapped by one when I had the unit plugged in!) - however, as with all laser/radar dectors it can get a bit confused in heavily built up town centres as it also picks up a lot of shop doors and traffic lights.

  13. imo any of those mods would not add value and if anything will probably render the car more difficult to sell on sadly

    Exactly, people mod to their own tastes and for their own reasons - so unfortuantely modding is rarely an investment unless you happen to find someone with very similar tastes when it comes to selling up.

     

    Having said that, the Nismo exhaust is definately a nice addition in my opinion (I don't know about the others though!)

  14. That looks like a US base (non-bose) model. I'm assuming you require a 'bose' with the pre-amp outputs that will plug straight into your bose amplified Z? (as above, Bose don't make the headunit, but they do make the amplifier)

     

    You could always get hold of a PAC-ROEM-NIS2 cable, which would allow you to ramp down the output of any non-bose stereo and make it suitable for your car?
