  1. Hi All Have had my 350 for nearly 8 years now, the longest I've ever owned a car by a long way.. It's SUCH a good car and there's still nothing wrong with it at 60+k miles. Am considering going to a 370 (even though I read I can't get the same stunning exhaust note as my stock 350!) I can imagine the response I'll get from this question but was considering an auto for a couple of reasons; - I've a classic mustang that has an auto box and love it - you get torque multiplication with an auto box (I LOVE torque) - flappy paddles So, wondered what the thoughts on the Auto were on the 370????? And - do you get engine braking on the auto ( / torque converter lock-up) or, if going around a bend quickly and wanting to keep the back end nicely tucked in, will taking foot off the accelerator give some engine braking to the wheels. Cheers all
  2. ahh that's interesting !... cheers Neil (sos for delayin replying.. haven't been on for a while ) bugglet; the nissan chap said the thrust bearing rattled 'cus it wasn't greased enough.. or had lost grease..or similar.. so maybe as you had your clutch replaced the T bearing was bound to have been replaced at the same time & your new one is greased up better (certainly better than mine if that's what's causing it!) Cheers again all
  3. Great, Cheers for that Neil out of extra interest maybe, I know that mine had a new Nissan fitted clutch before I had it (mine is an 04).. maybe it is just release bearing, would be simple if so , but would be very very surprised if they didn't replace the bearing at the same time as the clutch... a classic false economy case! mine has only done just over 30k .. have you had yours from new?.. maybe there has been a replacement in yours (don't know if this is significant in any way tho') I don't have the gear lever vibration probs.. I was thinking of changing mine for an 06 plate (mainly to avoid the hyper-road-tax post march 06 ) I'd be really interested to hear how you get on ..... thinking about it if yours is a 56 it is still in warranty ..so the garage would be more inclined to want to do work on it than not .. more money for them if they do .. but yeh, would really like to hear how you get on ! Cheers ! Darren
  4. I have the same rattle - for me it only happens after the car has warmed up - so if I turn it off straight away from cold - no rattle.. It isn't the car cooling down - that noise I get but is just the 'tink, tink...' of cooling exhaust metal I asked my dealer about this when I took it for service and they say it is the clutch release bearing .. this c o u l d be possible as .. when I press in the clutch before turning the engine off the rattle doesn't happen .. so .. I guess as the bearing is compressed - i.e. held together firmly it can't rattle .. I did think though that it might have been the gearbox wearing .. partic as I also get a kind of whine from the gearbox .. kinda like the noise you hear from a straight cut gearbox or really old cars like a model T Ford ! .. although at a much quiteter level .. (anyone else get this ?) you can hear it only really in 1st or second as anything else above this is covered by road noise. can anyone confirm this .. or is this common / normal .. anyone else get this or can supply a reason/answer ?? Cheers !
  5. Cheers for that people.. guess I'll just leave it as it is - it connects fine every time .. although doesn't disconnect sometimes !.. will just have to keep shouting I guess !
  6. hi when using the in car phone system (with bluetooth adapter and LG Chocolate phone) when talking to others they say that I sound really quiet or sometimes echo-y. with the echo issue i put the phone in one of the cubby holes to remove the chance of my voice being picked up by the phone as well as the car's microphone. I also have to turn the volume on the car unit pretty muchway up to maximum to hear the other person. I can't see any settings that would help the problem on the phone itself and have no probs connecting via bluetooth. Although sometimes have probs disconnecting a call! anyone else get this problem / or even better have solved it ?? Cheers !
  7. Hi STUEY sorry for delay -haven't been on for a while and realise it's a bit late now but .. have just had a look for documentation and have nothing - COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT service desk bloke (WR Davies Stafford) - luckily mechanics seem to be fine- as far as i can gather and remember the parts ordered were something like a set of washers and maybe some nuts ?!?! .. and that was about it - has been about 2.5 months since it was done and sems fine .. not sure if i picked up a tiiin bit of clicking once or twice but nothing like it was anyway. yeh - with the creaking exactly how others explained it .. wjhen reversing up uneven ground .. looks like that drop link bush needs greasing - will do it when better weather comes ! hope that helps at all.
  8. I got the same clicking and creaking noises ! I took it back in warranty to get the clicking fixed as per bulletin which worked fine - I know the garage ordered parts to do it so i hope that means that they replaced whatever was wrong rather than just a regrease ? anyway - still occasionally have the creaking - it only happens occasionally when the back end climbs a curb or similar .. as though it is just a dry rear arm bush or something .. is yours the same or does it do it all the time ?
  9. hi have just bought the proper nissan mats and can say for sure that the mats do not come with the peg. The peg was fitted already to my car though and am 99% sure it has never had the proper mats in ... so long story short peg is on car already ! (mine is an 04 in case there's any variation across years cheers
  10. nice one - my mate had a sprint too at the time .. still gets me if you look at the 0-60m figures how slow they were ! .. think the sprint was about 8.5seconds .. 2 litre 7 was about 9.5 .. but tr7 V8's were still only 150bhp and maybe only 8 seconds !! .. and at the time 9.5 secs felt quite quick! .. although cars then seemed to have much more torque than generally these days and THAT is why I love the Z so much - LOVE that torque !... test drove a few cars before the Z including S2000 .. which I was TOTALLY unimpressed with !! .. so disappointed after thinking for ages that it would feel great .. but .NOT! peach pics !
  11. peach ! cheers for that chaps .. do you get that 'rattle' when you turn the engine off too ?? actually forgot to mention the noise that i get when sitting out of gear but with clutch engaged.. just again sounds like gearbo turning over just sounds noisy compared to any car I've had before .. inc other rear wheel drives like TR7 !
  12. Hi - have had Z for a couple of months now .. came from Celica vvti .. LOVE the torque and noise so much ! Question : is my gearbox overly noisy ?... in first and maybe a bit in second it is sliiiightly winey - am thinking 'cus I am used to FWD cars that it just sounds noticable because I'm sitting right next to the box rather than it being tucked away in the engine bay.. The other thing that it does do that I am wondering about moreso is when it is warm (and gearbox oil thinner than cold) when I turn the engine off (with the clutch engaged but out of gear) it makes a RATTLE sound .. like I used to call "Idler gear rattle" on original minis (if anyone knows what I mean!) .. It has done 28000 miles (04 reg) and has had a new clutch at about 25000 miles just wondered if this all normal ? Cheers !
  13. yep I would be up for that, Midlands is good Idea
