  1. you like your big engined cars Dan! 1.7 for your first motor, thats not bad back in the day of Morris Marina's.

Rolls/Bentleys era? what was going on there lol

    Tuono R sounds nice B)

Yeah I do love big torquey motors, not my scene to bounce them off the redline to get anywhere. I love effortless mid range wallop most of the time, and yet I still get a buzz from thrashing some little rev happy sports car around the place from time to time.

Silver Shadow is still my favourite car of all time and I still plan to find one of the best in the country somewhere along the line and just put it away for sunny Sundays. Very sad I know :headhurt:

I would love to have an old Rolls or newer Bentley in the showroom all the time, I need a source for these cars.

I could never be happy with just one car though, I would always need a good sports car aswell as the Roller. And a Bike. And a truck for the Rotties. And a soft top. And a motorway mile eater...oh here we go again :p

  2. A very good friend of mine is a racing driver and used to have an Elise. He also had an NSX which he let me loose in, but thats another story. Anyway he took me out for a day in the Elise and I was totally gobsmacked, absolutely amazing car especially in talented hands. Very very quick A to B, he was taking overtakes that I would have thought twice about on a bike !!!

  3. LOL you guys

Ok, cars I'm not even going to attempt to list because I have 52 right now LOL. I've had most cars on the road more than once including some flashy stuff and my fair share of the tediously mundane.

Cars I've bought specifically to run, as opposed to stock :

Morris Marina 1.7 ( first car, thanks Dad ! )

    Rover 3500 Auto ( P6 ) ( first car I bought, after I put the Marina through a wall )

    Rover 3500S ( P6 )

    Jaguar XJ4.2 S3

    Jaguar XJ12 5.3 S2

    Ford Capri 3.0 S ( at least 4 of these )

    Ford Capri 2.8i ( 3 or 4 of these )

    Half a dozen Minis

    Several Toyota Supras

A few Nissan 300ZX but one very nice UK car which I kept for a while

Mitsi 3000GT ( several of, used to import them, but had a couple to keep for a while )

Rolls Royce Corniche ( ex Cliff Richard )

    Rolls Royce Silver Shadow x2

    Bentley Mulsanne

    Bentley Brooklands

    M3 Convertible ( E46, over rated )

Nissan 350z GT Azure ( my first 350 I bought to run, not for stock )

    Vauxhall Monaro 6.0 VXR

I could go on LOL. The line between stock and "my car" blurs sometimes.

    Bikes.

    Honda VT500E

    Yamaha FZR1000Genesis

    Kawasaki GPZ1000RX

    Ducati 906 Paso

    Honda CBR600

    Ducati 750SS

    Ducati 900SS

    Yamaha R1 Carb

    Honda CBR900RR Fireblade

    Yamaha R1 Injection

    Ducati 999

    Yamaha R1 ( 06 )

Some maybe out of order, but thats about it for my own bikes. Had a couple of dozen for stock over the years, taken in swap against cars etc.

Currently don't have a bike but getting the craving more and more, so it won't be long. Fancy a Monster S4R or a Tuono R or maybe even a noisy bad ass Harley shock horror. Mid life crisis

  4. Because its illegally spaced. Apparantly

They are red hot on this just now because of the automatic number plate recognition ( ANPR ) systems they are using.

Basically these are cameras, both fixed and mobile, that can read dozens of number plates per second and look them up on a database and tell straight away if the car is nicked, not taxed or not insured.

But they don't like plates which are illegally spaced, apparently.

We got a letter through from DVLA warning us about producing illegally spaced number plates, or plates with fancy fonts etc ( we have a computer operated number plate machine, very fancy gadget, which can print different fonts and create effects etc for show plates ) for customers and threatening us with a large fine if we produce any that end up on the road...our name appears on the bottom of the plates so we can't say it wasn't us that printed it :headhurt:

  5. I'm not normally a huge fan of private plates but I spotted a very clever one the other day. It was on an X5 or something similar and the plate said : D380RAH. It looked just like DEBORAH ( of course !!! ).

The other one I liked was a Testarossa I used to see on my way to work which had 4RE on the plate. Which sounds a lot like Ferrari if you say it out loud.

Apologies if I've just stated the bleeding obvious, twice. It's one of those days !

  6. I'm a car nut and all my life I've spent amounts on cars that were disproportionate to my income LOL

Driving round in V12 Jags and spending £70 on a tank of Fuel when I'm only earning £150 a week for example :D

Money has a way of sorting itself out mate, sod it, have fun :p

And please read my sig before you do anything

  7. I dunno about handling, the Supra is heavier I think 1450kg, not sure off hand what a Zed weighs but a Supra saved my bacon once on a greasy roundabout when I hit it a touch too quick, got very sideways and it damn near sorted itself out. Sort of a natural castor effect if you will. Otherwise I was headed for slightly too close look at the scenery ( sat there thinking oh no, not again ) :scare:

Cracking car Supras, just tough to find a clean one which hasn't been messed with nowadays.

  8. Agree, the Almera is dull as ditch water. When we send people for test drives in Almeras ( Old Veras ) we half expect them to slip into a coma before they get off site :)

Having said that I had a 1.8 SVE Auto with Sat Nav and drove that for a couple of weeks because I wanted to play with the Nissan Birdview Sat Nav and it was a very nippy little car. I found the Nav pretty decent too by the way !

  9. It's a nice car Rich, you won't be disappointed. I spend a lot of time looking at Zeds and there are lots that I don't buy, which hopefully tells you something. This car is original throughout, never been painted or repaired - I don't buy cars that have.

It's been through the workshop today, prepped, Taxed and ready to go. Only fault we could find was the track was slightly out ( Toeing out ) so we reset the track for you.

For the record the manual says Super Unleaded 99 RON but the cars will run off Premium 95 RON if you're concerned about fuel bills.

Expect 25 mpg average, unless you drive like the Stig ;)

Rays were an option on this model year.

Tyres are good, in fact the rears are new so watch that back end until they scrub in :p

As you are now a member of this forum I'll throw in your first service for free when it's due, and do it while you wait as you're an hour and half away. Just give us a ring near the time and we'll book you in.

I'm afraid I'm off to see Chubby Brown at Blackpool tommorow so won't be there in person, but Simon my Sales Manager will look after you.

Enjoy your first Zed and I look forward to plenty of banter on here with you :teeth:

  10. Just noticed it's a 650i Sport, so assuming it's Auto an 06 books at £40725. I would expect offers around £38k from the trade and around £3000 less if it's a manual.

I've called the dealer I bought the car from to see what they will offer.

    It's very well spec'd with nearly £5k of BMW optional extra's, e.g.

    1. Steptronic Auto

    2. Logic 7 sound system (surround sound etc.)

    3 Professional Sat Nav

    4. Voice Control

    5. Heated Seats

Plus all the usual 650i Sport extras.

Proper car then Kev, I looked at leasing one but decided against it. I personally would go for the convertible, but thats just cos I'm a posing git.

Stick it on Auto Trader mate, it's only £15 for a fortnight on the website and if you price it right you will get enquiries. Good luck.

  11. I wil be replacing the 6 but with a cheaper car though. I wonder if a dealer really would take a car in p/x and give me cash?

I think a trip to the dealer I bought it from is first on the list. Then probably Autotrader for a few weeks. As I say I don't have to sell so can afford to wait for the right buyer. Just concerned that as many have said, the average private buyer wants finance/trade-in etc.

Yes, most dealers will do "cash back" deals. If they don't want your car they will ring other dealers for an underwrite and they will try quite hard if they are getting a sale out of it.

You may do ok just hawking it around the dealers yourself but be prepared for some insulting offers - they will assume you need the cash and start low.

With it being quite new I would say BMW dealers are most likely to want the car, especially if it's good spec.

Let me know which model and year it is and I'll tell you what it's worth to the trade so you know what to expect.

  12. Can't beat Auto Trader mate, website not the magazine.

Just price it competitively relative to similar cars and undercut the dealers.

You may have trouble selling such an expensive car privately, most buyers of a car of this value will want finance and have a part exchange, so it might take a while.

    Good luck.

  13. Yeah in the past 5th gear have said the 350Z is one of the best sports coupes ever, and Vicki Butler Henderson has said its one of her favourite cars.

Very inconsistent on that program, I only watch it to see Tiff Needell and Jason Plato sliding about. I'd love to be able to drive like that...then again in somebody elses car I probably could LOL :p

  14. Must have been the driver mate.

I'm about to get flamed I know, but I've had literally dozens of Supras and they are superb cars, and can be made seriously quick very cheaply with a bleed valve so the wastegate stays shut longer. Take off the cats and bypass the ECU fuel cut and you have a real flyer. Nowadays its hard to find one that hasn't been messed with so most are running well over 350 bhp. Also bear in mind loads of them are none turbo models and can make a turbo like noise if they have an induction kit fitted. None turbo models are a sheep in wolfs clothing, about 220 bhp and 0-60 in about 7 seconds so no big deal but lightly modded TTs are under 5 seconds to 60 and seriously quick in the midrange when the big turbo kicks in.

I was one of the first members on Uk Supras forum and that was over 12 years ago now, there aren't many of us left but still some very good lads on there, very clued up. I've told them all to try a Zed by the way, cos the Supe is getting on a bit now and clean ones are getting very hard to find.

Bear in mind the Supra was a 50 grand motor in the mid nineties, so it makes the Zed look a real bargain, but a good standard TT would whip a standard Zed quite comfortably.

    Sorry :headhurt:

  15. As it's Nissan I assume stupid money?

Sorry to hear that mate, wouldn't you just love to catch them at it.

Have to agree about Nissan prices. I'm an independent Nissan specialist so obviously we buy lots of parts off Nissan. Last week we sold a Terrano which needed a new throttle pedal...fly by wire of course, couldn't just want a cable, oh no, that would be far too easy LOL

Turned into £750 worth of a job to get the car sorted, and thats at cost to me !!!

  16. If you really want a 4x4 there are only 3 choices at 20k, Range Rover, X5 or Landcruiser. Problem is Range Rover Diesel is pretty awful and really not much better on fuel than the Petrol models. If you want a Navara or Pathfinder I have access to several 07 plate cars right now, choice of colours and specs, Leather, Sat Nav etc and can usually get them fairly easily.

I have a Landcruiser on site right now, 02 plate.

Personally, I would think a Micra Cabriolet is more your style :p
