  1. Try just this one for size, you turn up and the S/C is clattering away (Vortech's clatter) you will have no idea (and neither would I, neither would BigPhil and neither would TDi) whether it was normal clatter (they vary tremendously) or it was worsening over time due to jackshaft wear on the S/C (this happens). Trust me, you have to live with it to get to know stock noises and changes from stock noises.

You would have no warranty with Vortech if the jackshaft bearings are shot and you could be into big bucks straightaway.

Alternatively, has the oil been changed every 3k miles and more importantly the oil squirter filter to the blower cleaned (with compressed air) at same interval - if that is clogged, it could go bang any time due to oils starvation to the S/C.

It needs a recent dyno plot, not for power but to show that AFR is acceptable and not running lean - Spill had problems with his running lean IIRC

IMO this is a bad idea - sorry

Agree, Agree, Agree neither myself or Dorian would be able to say if the SC is OK as they all vary immensely, what I was suggesting, if your heart is set on this car, that prior to inspection you have it put on a dyno at a respected tuners who would be able to give a plot of all readings and most importantly AFR mine was running 16:1, however I still believe that the someone has looked at this car for performance as one of the pictures does show a AEM gauge which again this wouldn't be fitted for bling.

The noise thing is spot on, it does clatter, chatter whatever, and you do get used to the noises, BTW my oil at the moment is being changed approx every 300miles :scare: 10w50 it gets changed when the clatter gets louder with an attributed lumpy idle.

......and IMHO Dorians first and last lines are spot on, do it yourself, don't buy this car too many unknowns,

and sorry to whoever owns it

  2. Not sure, he said he will come down to Manchester with the car on the day, but in the mean time want it checked out Nottingham or Newcastle I think

Christ defiantly from London :p:lol: , anywhere above watford is up north.

    Notts to Newcastle about 3hours

if it's newcastle pm bigphil ;) he may be able to help

  3. No I hasselled him a bit pretending I knew what I was talking about lol. Do you know of any specialist I could pay to go and check out the car for me as its all the way up north to collect and just want to make the one trip

    Where up North?

  4. Having seen the V2 on the weekend I have to say i prefer the V1. Its more refined and suits the car better

I think you can get away with just having the V1 if you choose whereas the V2 needs the rest of the V2 kit to compliment so it doesn't look like a chavvy whale tail

Have to disagree there mate :teeth:

  5. Hmm I could get this for 20k, wonder if I can get him to drop the price more cos of no service history then get RAC to check it out :)

    Need to type quicker :)

Looks like he's already dropped £5K off price

Sorry RAC is waste of time, needs to go to someone like Abbey, TDI or WRCT

  6. TBH the install that steve did would be first class, only downside he never had it tuned or put it on a dyno,

from the photos it looks like someone has spent some time and care taking it to the next stage, but it looks like two people have done the work one for show off and one for performance, note the silicon tube forcing the air up to the filter (not a mod you would do for looks), cusco strut bar ((bling) but expensive bling) and the gauge pods F&F IMO performace wise you wouldn't mount them there.

But my biggest concern would be history, if this can be provided and can be verified then yes go for it, Oh but IMO it's not worth anymore than £20K

  7. Yes, IIRC it's had 2 owners since Steve, he only put about 1000 :p miles on it from new LOL kitted it with the vortech then sold up, so looks like 25000 miles have no history, again IIRC a 17/18 year old bought it off steve.

  8. Spill have you had any probs with your vortech supercharger, is there any thing I should be wary of if buying a second hand car with vortech supercharger?

    see http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4576&highlight=

Not real problems just teething issues which I'm still trying to sort 14months on - oil leaks, fuel leaks, excessive noise due to oil temperature, belts squealing, pullies out of line etc, etc,

as for the vortech it is a great bit of kit for the money, just make sure if you are buying a car with any type of FI on it get all the history, check then double check it and before pushing it take it to a trusted tuner and have it remapped for your own piece of mind,

and if you can't find any history or not from a trusted source I personally wouldn't buy it, just do it yourself, example

    Base car - £13K - £16K

    Vortech - £3000

    Installation £600

    Extras/Contingency £500

You then know the history of the FI and you'll have piece of mind knowing you're the only one to put real stresses on the internals.

I presume you're looking at Steveb's old car

  9. we had to put some limit to sigs as otherwise with no limits sigs would take up most space on threads.

Threads would get even longer (more pages) than they are now and would take even longer to read them all

PS just noticed mine is 105 ! will have to resize too :teeth:

Agree with limits, height  but width should be increased and also believe this should apply to photos as well, it's a right bitch when I have to keep scrolling left to right to read a post.

you're not the only one flaunting it ;)

  10. Yes,

it's the way this car should have been :D

    Nice sig

Surely not within regulation 3.2.4.1 stating sigs have to be 500 x 100

Can I ask why you've set it at 500x100

my writings too small now :surrender:

Also how come mr minel got away with 500x105 :p

    sorry :offtopic:

  11. I have a US made one and it's fine, so you should be ok

no lets get this right you have some audio cables made up to like a grounding kit :p:D

yeah right, as if that's not what you are using

    :teeth:

    Optronics are 100% power cables..........

But you could very successfully use then as audio cables :p

  12. It all just begs the question where he's gone??

    :bye:

    Sorry mate I thought I'd PM'd you

    You've got mail :)

As pointed out some will some won't personally I believe it's down to how well the ecu is grounded.

As for testing now my cars running I will in the next week or so do some tests and post the results

  13. The problem is, it requires the whole gear box to be removed, the thing greased up again and then put back together. He said it was about half a days work and when asked if it was a warranty job, he said most have been turned away by Nissan, but that they would take a closer look when they pick it up on Friday and ask Nissan if it's a warranty job or not. He said not to hold my breath though, so I'm thinking it's going to be £500 odd quid to grease up a bloody joint!

I only paid £240 to have my new clutch fitted and new thrust bearing is only £20 so might as well replace it, if not being done under warranty.

BTW this was done by a nissan dealer.

    Prices + VAT

  14. Pretty impressive. Cost compared to the APS twin turbo setup...?

I would have thought about £2K less, must admit the TT is a tidier setup and the vortech is noisy but I didn't want the aggressive TT feel

    Cheers allan for clarification

  15. Whats the real @ wheels power now?

Cheers guys it's took a while but definitely worth it :teeth:

clutch going in next and then need to find a way to stop her brembos & HP+ are just not up to it

Rob don't have the figures but on my previous two dyno runs transmisson loss was 16.5% and 17% so would have thought approx 337 @ Wheels
